Went for a quick MTB ride with it on during my lunch break.
Might have been the sunshine, but for me it evoked the
melancholy-tinged optimism of MHTRC, rather than the dread
of Geogaddi.

Album on pod, joint in clutch, sunbathing calling. I did the
same with TCH yesterday it sounded better than I remembered.

refined.

its such a profound experience listening through this.

Finally listened to the entire album...
There are a couple of nice moments, but I have to admit, I
think the BoC magic of yesteryear is gone. In addition to
this, there doesnt seem to be any fluidity or consistency
between the tracks. Its not terrible, as I enjoyed it more
than Campfire (which isnt saying much) but I think I
understand now why theyve taken so long to come out with new
material.

I agree. well put. it doesn't seem to take many risks or do
anything bold to put itself anything higher than ok.

it's a bit boring. not bad, but kinda boring.

here's a beat. we'll vary it a bit. here's a droney synth.
ocassionally a melody will pop up. meh. the rest are filler
synth diddling

So I set aside some time to sit by a tree in the late afternoon sun for
a proper first listen. In short, I love this album and will
be listening to it a lot.

I think it's a really optimistic record, despite cues to the
contrary. Also was interested to notice that my other
favorite record this year (Cro Magnox) is a soundtrack for
an imaginary world/film.

They really seem to take great pains to keep doing things
the way they want to. I can't imagine the musical landscape
without Boards of Canada doing their thing. Will pick up the
vinyl for sure, this record was well worth the wait! Thanks!

Listened to it another 4 times ir so today. It already feels
like an old friend. Twice I had to check the track title to
ensure my phone hadn't gone over to some old BoC tracks from
a different release, they sounded so familiar.

My opinion of the album keeps on increasing and similarly
the number of tracks that really stand out as being
something special increase.

There are tonnes of little subtle details and one-off sounds
I am noticing, even streamed over Bluetooth from my phone to
a very small portable speaker. I can't wait to get some
quality time with it on the vinyl when I collect that
tomorrow.

Listened to it in flac on my monitors and sub today smoking
a fat gnarly hash oil joint. It was awesome. I love the 80s
feel to it, those arps are delicious.

Da fuk- it'd be a miracle if you could find an electronicish
album that didn't sound deep and spacey on an awesome hash
oil joint. Except for noise. I don't wanna be stoned and
listen to noise.

If you're into 80's vibe, listen to this whilst
high. Even without the video, that track makes you feel
like you're on coke and sports car-ing to the club in a
light blue jacket with huge shoulder pads; fucking AC
blasting cuz you're sweaty as fuck.

Hahaha I spose that's true. But is this place only for
purely subjective analysis? Da fuk.

I actuality liked that video more than the music. Mmmm
lasers.

Points: 10965 Status: Regular

Hey Ceri! Oooh, moderator now... woah. anyway, I'm listening
to it for the first time right now. So far, I find it
to be less "chill" or "organic" sounding than MHTRTC or
Campfire Headphase and closer to Geogaddi. I guess I like
it. Anyway, I'm not immediately falling in love with it as I
did with previous releases.

what i've always found endearing about boc is the melody of
which this album has none or at most very little. i am
disappoint.

Just now digesting this album-- looks like they got their
money's worth of dubTURBO 'cause these beats are killer.

I've listened about 5 times through now and it has really
grown on me. It's like a scorched earth wasteland. Much
darker than previous releases. I think also, more
mysterious. It's like a soundtrack for Mad Max or some other
1980's post-apocalypse sci-fi. So yeah, I love it now.

Although all of BoC's releases have grown on me to some
extent, this is the one that has shown most improvement with
repeated listens. A lot of the criticisms I've seen people
direct at it (too clean sounding in places, lacking the
melodic flair of previous releases, etc.) are things that I
felt the first few times hearing it, but now feel are less
justified criticisms.

Finally got my copy today. I've only listened to the first
quarter maybe, but I heard lots of nice stuff there. Lots of
listens to come tonight!

I must say though that the first track that came out, Reach
for the Dead, really does it for me. I liked it the first
time I heard it, but it's definitely grown on me more since.
I had it playing in the car as I drove home from the record
store and just sat there thinking "Damn, this is some good
stuff!"

after a listen through I think my favorite track is Palace
Posy, it just sounds so strange yet still has a nice melody.
Sort of reminds me of Seeya Later from Twosim in that way.

Like many others, I found it slightly flat at first, but
with repeat listens have come to enjoy it. Reach for the
dead is my favorite track, which I've enjoyed immensely
since my first listen; it was that track which motivated the
repeat listens.

I'm okay with it not being precisely the old BoC sound
(which I adore). We have lots of great stuff with their old
sound, and I hope they enjoyed experimenting a little with
this one.
