if they are saying "fuck you" then why would they be saying
it to the fans. if its just humor then its obviously
towards people trying to sound like them. like, "this is
what you sound like when you try to sound like us"
. in a
track like etchogon i get the feeling that even if they are
making fun of someone they really bring it home in the end
and make a clear picture out of it. or maybe i'm crazy, i
dont know.

The most glaring example of it being a joke was bnc Castl.
After the heavy srs stuff they did and with the titles etc
as sadist said, it was a surprise to hear something like a
toy factory being torn down or something.

The same feeling kind of came around when Oversteps was
released.. I mean.. These synths.. BELLS?!? Okay. Not
exactly Pen Expers or Bine.. But alright.
But isn't that kind of what makes Ae great? How many
confields or drafts after another would be exciting before
it would be boring?

In the end they always do the weird mindfuck sounds, and
Oversteps and Move of Ten are just as full of mindfuck as
Confield or Draft was.. They are true futurists in that they
always seem to evolve.. Took me some time to let go of the
past and move into the future, but I'm glad I did.

MoT is full of great sounds and nice moods, as well as
fucked up rhythms.. Those tracks specifically the ones I
listed earlier are top notch! FOr me anyway. Sadist let GOOO
of the past.

okay it's maybe not a joke.

but that humour thing is exactly what i'm talking about.
they have the right to make fun of themselves and their
music but it just crushes the whole image.

i liked it more when they seemed to be lifeless computer
controlled machines from space creating weird 5th
dimensional alien algorhytmic tracks with gear made out of
awesomenium.

now you can clearly see they are just humans.

so the image is more important to you than the music. that's
autechre all over, like a book with no pages, they only sell
you the cover.

many mental images from their stuff that it makes me insane.
with the oversteps stuff i get this kinda vibe,

Haven't heard the whole album yet, but fucking hell..
nth Dafuseder.b is fucking incredible.
rew(1) really loud is immense.

I'm enjoying this a hell of a lot more than Oversteps.

Barcode, stop being suck a dildo dog.
This release has some clear examples of them putting the ae
flavor back into 2010.

we all see things differently, but you are missing a lot of
good stuff that you COULD maybe like.
I can list at least 10 classic tracks from
quari/oversteps/move that i love. I'm not expecting everyone
to love these, but to me they are awesome and I wish
everyone would see that.

My 2 word track review of 'Move of Ten'.

1. Etchogon-S - bit silly.
2. y7 - kinda boring.
3. pce freeze 2.8i - heavy, good.
4. rew(1) - fucking immense!
5. nth Dafuseder.b - best track.
6. iris was a pupil - majestic, oversteppy.
7. no border - very boring.
8. M62 - kinda whatever.
9. ylm0 - interesting, oversteppy.
10. Cep puiqMX - really good.

In truth, if you enjoy it good for you. Personally I think
they did some interesting stuff a loooooong time ago, but
electronic music caught up rendering them completely
irrelevant, not to mention boring as hell, but music is
entirely subjective; other than banter it's not worth going
ape about.

Not gonna happen. Suffice to say, Autechre's key selling
point is/was technology, now everyone has access to that
technology their value is completely diluted. Someone else
put it to me a lot more succinctly. If Autechre came out
'now' as brand new artists - bye bye, no one would ever know
they came and went.

"If Autechre came out 'now' as brand new artists". The FACT
is they haven't come out now and are not brand new artists,
so whoever put that to you is as stupid as you.

Everyone knows your opinion is worthless/uninteresting or
Barcode magazine wouldn't be the flop that it is.

This thread is a wonderful example of opinions skating on
the border between love and hate; opinions flying back and
forth between deepest ends based on whims, with ridiculous
amounts of internal philosophy, trying to balance external
aesthetic, with perceived artist intentions, with back
catalogue consideration, with label and future
considerations...

Oh, man- it's dense.

"Suffice to say, Autechre's key selling point is/was
technology"

That's a total load of bullshit. Their selling point has
always been their composition. Technology is just a means to
that end.

I guess you just don't get it.. There were a lot of
electronic artists back in the 90s.. The reason Ae became
popular was because of their musicality, compositions, ideas
and how they used the technology.
The fact is a lot of people have been touched on an
emotional level by their music, not just some intellectual
level.. In fact I propose 99% of ae fans care only about the
emotional level and not the analytical technical level.

Just read most threads on here or watmm about new ae
releases.. Most people talk in emotional terms.
Not to say that technical level doesn't heighten emotional
impact, it does.. But very few people listen without being
emotionally engaged, and that was always ae's selling
point.

after 2 listens:

It's good. Doesn't really come close to the high water mark
of Confield/Gantz graf (imo), but that's alright. Nice
companion piece to Oversteps.

pce freeze, nth Daufesder, and Etchogon are the immediate
standouts.

I found it a bit more enjoyable when i took the headphones
off and put it on some really loud speakers.

In this day and age, live instrument performance is
high-tech as shit. Like imagine a 17-person jazz group
playing improv bebop for 1 hour, where the climax comes as
they all peak on shrooms and e.

Fuckin' alien shit. I'm pretty sure they'd be albe to
levitate.

Like when Richard Devine learns how to play all his shit in
realtime with a handful of sticks, THEN he will be phuture.

Everything other than purely live electronic music is
child's play.

"Everything other than purely live electronic music is
child's play. "

then go "child's play up" something as masterfully sequenced
as drukQs or Draft and go live in a bank. Yeah, that's what
I thought.

I don't understand how one could place more importance on
any technique over the experience of the final
composition itself. I appreciate "skill" as much as anybody,
but I listen to music for the "creative download" of it, not
to watch somebody's hands tweaking some knobs or playing
some drums-- that's far less interesting.
