BTW you can take pictures/screenshots with the camera you
find in the Nomad, and export them.

I finished it last night. Awesome game and a fitting
conclusion to the series (at least for Snake). The ending
got a bit crazy as expected, but I did a little net research
afterwards to make things a bit clearer.

It isn't a perfect game though. The boss fights are nowhere
near as memorable as those from the original MGS and MGS3,
despite the obvious wink to characters of past. The controls
still don't feel 100% perfect either, especially when
controlling the Metal Gear, which was a pain in the ass at
times. Also, what purpose did Hal's MK2 robot serve when
used as an item in game? Every time I tried to use it, he
said the battery was about to go....

I loved returning to Shadow Moses Island though. As someone
above wrote, I feel that if you didn't play the original,
that section would totally go over most peoples heads, but
for people who have followed the series over the last 10
years like myself, it was a brilliant and unexpected move. I
actualy replayed the original MGS about a year ago on the
PS2 and it is still by far the best from the series (though
MGS3 and indeed MGS4 come pretty damn close).

I do kind of wish it was a little longer though. I think my
total playtime was about 20 hours and at least half of that
was cutscene cinematics. I died and replayed areas quite a
bit too, so it would be interesting to know exactly how much
gameplay there really is... but fuck it, MGS4 has always
been like an interactive movie anyway and the action scenes
are so intense, it's nice to catch your breath and watch the
story unfold.

One question though: whos grave is snake visiting at the
start of the game? It looks to be the exact same grave as
the one where The Boss is burried, but AFAIK, he didn't know
who The Boss was until Big Mama revealed it at the end.. or
am I wrong?

Anyway, to conclude - great game! Not perfect in the same
way that GTA4 wasn't perfect either, but definitely one of
the best games ever made and a real labour of love.

Great words Brisk.

The MK2 comes in handy to scout out what lies ahead, as well
as has the ability to electrocute (and knock out) the
enemy.

I believe the grave is The Boss's. But yeah, I guess he
really only did just find out about her.

BiG sPoIlErS

That was Big Boss' grave, which happened to be right beside
The Boss'. In the ending you can see Snake arriving at his
grave and he glances over at her grave without giving it
that much attention.

BTW, check PSN, there's a Metal Gear Database up now. 77MB
of information and pictures, very cool and free and
enlightening and confusing (I didn't take this picture)

I've been playing Metal Gear Online the last couple of days,
it's really fun though the map selection is very weak right
now. The original MGO had a more interesting set of maps and
I want more of the mountain/jungle/snowfield settings back.
A Shadow Moses map based on the Crying Wolf area would be
tubular and could have/should have been implemented already,
but Konami want to bleed us dry and I'm willing to bend
over.

Stealth of course is all but non-existent unless it's that
.5% of the time that you get to be Snake, but I like the
generally slow pace of this game. I spent 3 hours leveling
up my knife skills in hysterically fun ''knife-only''
servers so I could perform the CQC throat-slit and it was
worth my evening.

i had to stop reading this thread because of possible
spoilerzzz but i love all you guys.

update: the 80gb bundles seem to be impossile to get. i did
see them online at sears and gamestop but waited a day to
think it over. i shouldn't have thought about it.

i really want the backwards compatibility because my ps2 is
dying. also, the dual shock controller. i may just give in
and buy a 40gb at some store nearby.

sony continues to drop the ball on this system. taking out
backwards compatibility to boost ps3 game sales? i guess
that's how you award loyalty.

also, i'm disturbed by the few gamer store employees who
said "it's just a rumble feature" about the bundle, but
maybe they were just trying to sell the rumbleless 40gb or
perhaps that + 55 more bucks for a controller. ever since
the lovely n64 rumble pack, i think it's an essential,
simple feature to gaming.

Of course i love how they put so many different hidden
elements in this game.

for example in the beginning of Act 1 there's an Officer's
uniform in one of the lockers in the PMC buildings, they
won't even bother with you, and if you get the Big Boss
emblem, they will be scared or somthing

Me and my brother beat the game this weekend. One of the
best games I've played this generation, and a landmark for
graphical prowess. The length was appropriate (even though
seeing the series end feels a bit sad) and the amount of
closure is satisfying. I still have no idea about some of
the craziest shit in MGS2, and how that relates to anything,
but I'm willing to applaud Kojima for making one mess of a
story at least APPEAR reasonable and tight-knit. Gameplay
was very old school, although the first person and third
person shooting modes made it all seem relevant again.

I agree that some of the earlier boss battles were not as
exciting as they could have been, mainly because they were
so rare to come by and yet not all that difficult. Aside
from that, I feel anybody who owns a PS3 and is not playing
this game is an idiot. In fact, anyone who likes good games
is going to enjoy this experience.

I think MGS3 remains my favorite. Maybe. God bless MGS2 for
pushing the envelope as far as it could go, but it ended up
being a heavy millstone around MGS4's neck... too many
things for its sequel to explain, too much time spent
explaining it, some of it wasn't worth explaining in the
first place, and some of the explanations are just too much.
The pacing is just off from from the comparatively brisk,
genre-bending self-contained potboilers that were MGS1 and
3. There's a lot of superfluous stuff that could have been
edited here.

Still, can't be too hard on the series for being
overambitious, especially in this industry. It's sad to see
the Solid series end, because there's nothing else that
could ever replace it. It was unprecedented and probably
inimitable.

Well, I've finished it a couple of minutes ago. To answer
your question Ophecks, I got quite a lot from what was going
on in the 4-th act. Before buying the game I watched
specials prepared by GameSpy which contained the most
memorable cinematics and boss fights from the previous
parts, so I believe I understood the most important things.
I don't think that this whole effort was worth it though,
because it wouldn't hurt if there was less of the story in
this game. I could probably write something about the
Japanese take on pop-culture which produces horribly
overblown results, but I admit that I must miss some magic
because of not having the memories of grwowing up with the
game. Anyway, the cutscenes were very well done and
enjoyable as long as the dialogue was limited. Which is
probably why it was such a pain for me to watch the ending.
The rest of the game, the shooting mechanics, the inventory,
the stealth elements, the boss battles - all spot on, very
very fun. 9/10.

for me, as someone who's played 1 and 2 and most of 3, it
was precisely the ending (and events leading up to it) that
made the most sense, and with any LESS dialogue I would have
felt cheated

this need for extended closure is, of course, a result of
their weaving a ridiculously bloated storyline across two
decades, which could only be resolved in this (admittedly
trying) manner.

but more than fan service, it's a surprisingly interesting
alternative history scenario that touches on current
political events as well... you can read it as pure fiction
or a sort of cloaked conspiracy theory, whatever rocks your
boat.

What was much worse that the actual lines was the way they
were delivered. Even Sunny's sighs pissed me off. As I said
before, the setting wasn't as ludicrous as I had expected,
some of the ideas for this whole alternative reality really
made sense.

I downloaded MGS for PC a couple of days ago and I think I'm
going to give it a try soon.

Now, I have no idea what my next game for PS3 should be.
GRID seems to be a good racer. Maybe MGS3 in compatibility
mode if I find some way to buy it in Poland. It seems that
in Iceland, there is no way to get anything more than 1 year
old. Will it work on the standard 40GB version?

if the PC version don't work properly (which is very likely,
apparently it will run only on old hardware...), try using
an emulator with the original Playstation disks/iso's. I'm
currently playing it on ePSXe, and after a little config
time it now runs (almost) perfectly. in my opinion the best
game of the series by far...

First I would have to get the original game and it has never
been a popular series in Poland. Hmmm, is it possible to run
PSX games burned from disc images on PS3?

Blaaard, I'll try emulating PSX if this is indeed the
easiest thing to do.

Thanks for the tips guys.

as to your first question: no, PS3 will not read them.

I agree running it on good software is probably the best
alternative. Proper emulation makes the game look like a PS2
game, which is either a great advance (as I think), or
blasphemy to the original (as some might think). I'm all in
favour of adding texture filtering and anti-aliasing to old
crappy looking PSX games. But if you'd rather emulate PSX
100% accurately, nothing's stopping you. That's why I love
emulators.

Big Boss Hard is really fucking frustrazting, i'm trying to

kills. I wonder if it's even worth it, since if i mess up, i
have to start al the way from the beginning of the act.

No damage, or just no healing items? I don't think anyone
has done a no-damage run yet. That would be hard for me to
fathom. The rail-shooting segments are the biggest hurdle
there.

I have a completed save of The Boss Extreme beaten in under
3.5 hours, no kills no alerts no damage. I'm such a badass.
The hardest part was definitely copying it over to my PS3
after I downloaded it from gamefaqs. The rewards are neat
but sort of disappointing.

Are you charging up the rail gun completely before shooting
the Gekkos with it? That kills them instantly and makes it
pretty easy, and the game doesn't really let you know that
you can charge it.

If you want the trophies you'll probably have to play the
game again to actually trigger them, otherwise everybody
would just download uber-saves. Kind of sucks considering
how hard I worked to earn all of Uncharted's rewards.

For games like Warhawk, where stats and performance is saved
on their server, when they update the game you'll get all
the trophies retroactively, because you can't cheat the
server. They know you're legit.

i got past it last night and i beat the rest of the game

but i will after i post this.

i honestly found the majority of the storyline/cutscenes to
be awful. but there were some good bits that i enjoyed,
mainly the artsy visual explanation parts.

i'd give the game an 8 at best. mgs, mgs3, mgs4, mgs2

i'll discuss this with you great people soon! but for now
the home run derby is on and i want to read a summary of the
