Semi-Pro (2008) * * * I know it's not original etc, but I'm a sucker for Will Ferrell and I like the fact that it just exists in its own little world, with almost nothing to do with ours. Chocolate (2008) * * * ½ Thai film from the stable that brought us Tony Jaa, about a autistic girl who becomes embroiled in gangsters from her mother's past. Nice action and some touching sequences, though a bit overdone. |

Gomorra 5/5 it's a movie about the Camorra, the most cruel crime organization of the last 30 years, taken from the book of Roberto Saviano, Gomorra. i didn't read it and i've found the movie quite disturbing, figure out. you can read a very interesting article here closing track by Massive Attack |

Speed Racer 3/5 Saw this yesterday. It kinda (kinda) starts out alright. The driving parts are pretty cool. The style of the film, looking just like the cartoon, is kinda cool at first but then gets really distracting and annoying. Then the characters start going into these plot-advancing monologues or exchanges that just go on and on, all talking boring lawyer-speak or heavy melodrama which feels really inappropriate for what is essentially a cartoon. Plus the film has none of the innocence and cuteness of the original show, so the harsh language and violence feel really out of place and disturbing but not in a good way. but the driving is cool. I'd say if you don't see this on a big screen then don't bother watching it at all. |

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 6/10 This is really the most I can give. You could say that Indy movies are all about self-references and pushing adventure genre to the extreme, but it was so cliched, uninventive and over-the-top that I dozed off for a good minute in the second half in a very loud theatre. If anyone remembers the game Fahrenheit and was also embarrased by how it all went downhill about 70% into the story than you know the feeling. This however goes downhill much sooner. Seriously unimpressive. |

Yeah intense would be the right word to describe her I loved the way she talked, it really brought me to that period. I can't compare her to the real Katharine Hepburn since I've never seen her movies but at least the likeness was well matched. |

I've been getting them from BitHQ and NGs.. I would buy them but we don't get the Criterion editions here. I picked up a 2-disc release of Kagemusha though, which was only £5, otherwise it's about £17 for a shitty BFI release with hardly anything on it and a weaker transfer. |

We have a good downtown library in the city I live that carries many Criterion discs, not just Akira Kurosawa. Are Criterion discs import-only for non-US audiences? Sucks if that's so. Even domestically many Criterions are high for US consumers. I prefer to rent before I invest in one. |

[Rec] - 4/5 to be honest, i wasn't really "feelin'" this movie for the most part. I thought a lot of the reactions of the characters were not very natural which kind-of made it difficult to suspend disbelief. BUT the last 10 minutes or so of the film were sooo creepy and disturbing, it totally made up for its shortcomings. I never get weirded out by movies any more but... eesh. i was genuinely creeped out by a few of the final images. |
