Días de Fútbol 1.5/5

Misogynistic, homophobic, racist, wholly dislikeable
characters, boring, visually uninteresting... Literally
worst film I've seen in years :(

*and that 1.5 is only because I thought the main character
was mildly cute.

tekkon kinkreet 3/5

it's one of those films that's a total mess but i like a lot
anyway. i'll watch it again just to admire all the detail in
the backgrounds.

it just came out on dvd in north america a few days ago, so
you should be able to rent it anywhere.

the plaid soundtrack works really, really well with some of
the scenes, but other times it just comes across as a
regular movie soundtrack. so basically hit and miss with
some really good hits.

9 songs - 2.5/5 - definitly the most sexually explicit
british film ever! enough to make anyone blush. was a bit
too much though, makes one feel like a voyeur. i would give
it a higher mark but there was just too much sex. but that's
just it, winterbottom says it was his idea to tell the story
through the sex but i don't want to see it, makes me kind
of reflect on myself as a participant of sex where i rather
prefer not think of myself as a participating actor, even
though i am but i just want to do it not think about it
cause when im doing it i look like them and they look awful
doing it and you can kind of see these pretenses in the
intimacy and what a farce it can sometimes be .... fuck!
it's a good movie, okay. i just never want to see it again!

obnoxious, stock music intruding through every single scene,
shots that never last more than ten seconds, cheesy camera
angles, cartoonish characters, attempts at manipulating the
audience's emotions, cgi, etc are all things i equate with
hollywood-style movies. this film simply didn't do anything
for me.

the best part was that baby plant thing. that thing rocked.

offline optimus prime on 2007-10-16 13:18 [#02133367]

and by cartoonish characters i don't mean the faun. i mean
the captain and the rebel army and the mother and the maid.
the little girl was pretty good in spots but some scenes,
like where she eats the grapes, were just silly.

forbidden planet - 5/5 - big budget hollywood sci-fi.
awesome! including some really primitive futuristic
equipment such as the giant compass, the funny looking sound
frequency modulator and not to mention the impractical robby
the robot. favourite moment: when robby describes the weapon
he's holding as "a simple blaster". don't ask me why, it
made me happy.

8ish/10

this film is like almost 2 and a half hours, and the pacing
is real slow. but not once did i find myself bored or my
mind trailing off and thinking about other things. it's
beautifully filmed and good movie all round i'd say.

Glory to the Filmmaker (Takeshi Kitano): essentially
impossible to rate, second in his supposed trilogy of
self-critical, self-reflective, self-mocking metamovies...

The film that started off this trilogy, called Takeshis',
from two years ago, was something I really enjoyed after
repeated viewings, because it culminated his career up to
that point. This current film does nothing of the sort. It
is a meta-meta-movie, a non-movie, a post-movie... and,
underneath it all, just a series of random scenes, gags and
fragmentary ideas (closer to his comedy Getting Any from the
mid-90's than anything he's done before or since).

At parts, I found the film pretentious, self-righteous and
uninvolving, at others I was completely at loss of words
(whether because of absurdity, incoherence or complete
disregard for the audience), to the degree that I simply
decided I would postpone my judgement for some other day...
Well, that "other day" is today, but I still can't make up
my mind.

All in all, one has to appreciate Kitano's vision and
uniqueness, but this film works only as a meta-statement of
the art of movie making, and most viewers will probably find
it to be, rightly or wrongly, an irredeemable piece of
trash.

I kinda liked it. It's not good enough to classify as Dada,
but it's just a notch above kitsch.

la habitacion de fermat

spanish movie
not excellent, but nice to watch nonetheless

why not excellent?

well it is about 4 math "geniouses" in a room where they
must solve several mind games

the thing that disspaointed me the most is the fact that the
mind games are old and easy... less than what you would
expect as a real challenge for a math genious

apart from the movie is good
