moving the topic of this band out of some other thread
and into this one. this is their bio on the label
site. funeral is their first album and one of the best of
the year.

they remind me of a lot of bands (the talking heads, silver
mt. zion, and a more serious, more rocking polyphonic
spree, to name a few) but manage to have a lovely sound all
their own. one of the finest products of the montreal scene.
my favourite songs are all of the neighborhoods (tunnels,
laika, power out), but i love everything else as well.
hurray for great new music (even if it's not electronic).

it should be noted that they recorded their album at the
mythical Hotel 2 Tango, where the godspeed collective
records everything they do. i find the atmosphere shows
through the album.

All these nice words made me want to check it out. I'll give
my verdict as soon as slsk finish the download.

They were quite allright, but I got a bit bored of it
halfway though. What's lacking is some tunes that really
stand out and makes you want to get into the others.
Thanks for the tip anywho.

i listened to it three times in a row today and not got
bored of it. the whole thing is real good, every song
evolves..you start to think you heard it all and then it
moves to higher level...awesome stuff!!

I've had this one a few days now and have listened to it
about 5 times sitting here at the computer. It was nice, but
nothing really stood out for me aside from the opening
track. This evening around twilight I grabbed by Walkman and
giant studio headphones and went for a walk in the city down
by the harbor. The sky was just blazing red and this
beautiful music just washed all over me. Great record.

they are suck.
i had a ticket to thier 'cd release' show in mtl when it
came out.
the tickets went quick and i got a lot of grief from
hipsters when i happily went to the daedelus/her space
holiday show instead.
dont be tricked.

pffttt...

and it only made me thank god that i didnt go when
afterwards someone i know had something like this to say
about the arcade fire show:
"it was easily the best show i have ever been to in my
entire life..... actually....it was the best night of my
entire life"

it was in a church.

give me a break
trust me, give it 6 months, the hype will be over and you,
even you, wont care any longer.
they will fade from hip cafe conversations and
stereo systems and they will have to do things like
fake thier own death to get thier silly listeners talking about
them again.

talk about fading hype then open any thread about an idm
artist not on warp.

hey im not some idm/electronic music fanboy, so dont respond
to me like i am one.
just because i think that they hype that surrounds a lot of
these kinds of bands is silly, and get sick of hearing it,
doesnt mean im making any sort of statement about what
'real' music is.
in any case i listen to less idm (or electronic in general)
music then stuff that sounds similar to somthing like the
arcade fire.

They are indeed pretty shit, typically unremarkable
mope-rock which I'm sure will be lapped up by the NME, Zane
Lowe and other such cretins (optimus prime for instance),
not to mention making Pitchfork's number 1 trendy hip album
of 2004.

fucking pitchfork.
this is very great: "richdork media"
by the way, radiohead (and people reviewing them) are on the
recieving end of most of the jokes, and for the record i own
every radiohead release i can get my hands on (50+ discs at
this point) but just read the review they have there, it is
great:

So how do I review such an inherently perfect, flawless
recording? It would be unfair of me to simply state, "this
CD is perfection in the literal sense of the word," as that
would not give such a masterpiece the sufficient praise it
deserves. Putting this disc into your stereo and listening
to it is like having the saints pee liquid gold into your
ears. A beautiful, flowing, melodic wall of sound embraces
you like the mother you never had because she was a filthy
whore.

Yeah, I remember when they first put that up. It's spot on,
but then again I also like Radiohead a lot and I do agree
with a fair amount of the scores pitchfork give, it's
everything else about the site that's so annoying.

all you guys really seem to care about are 'hype' and the
printed media. yes, you also think they're 'shit', but that
seems more like a defensive measure so you don't end up
looking like a fool.

as the record stands, the arcade fire are the greatest band
of all time in this universe and another one far, far away,
and will always be the greatest band forever and ever and
ever. now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to put the album on
in mourning of this thread.
