so i think my is done and i'm stoked. because, like, just listen to that intro ...and i'm realizing i get better bass etc. transferring to computer if i leave the tape player volume down around 3 or 4 ...because all the way up i get distortion ...a bit less i can hear it amplifying the tape motors ...and, crap. a good tape PLAYER ain't the same thing as a good tape RECORDER, this is obvious in retrospect. so, my question: beyond getting a better tape PLAYER, any recommendations for transferring cassette to computer? levels etc? because this is a good tape and i don't want to just botch it at the finish line thx |

for mermaidman: ripping it at 96k 24bit. theoretically the mixer will do 192k but when i tried that it sharted out right fast. |

reversed thx deep note "chiouxiouseaphaeul" reversed thx deep note continues mac sosumi brian eno's "the microsoft sound" chiptune i did it by accident. then i recorded over it by accident when i was going to transfer the tape and SHFJGKDG and then calm down the levels on that weren't very good anyways. the answer is to just go re-record it, this time deliberately and i did. and the levels are better. and then i kept going and added loads more shit to the tape and i think i just shot myself in the foot there because i'd decided it was done but my subconscious disagreed TIPS FOR BEST TRANSFER TO COMPUTER? srsly. i'm just trying various configs and comparing on cans |

the tape recorder had a sort of companion player unit. perhaps it is better? so i dug it out. the batteries were, well... not well. they said EXPIRES MARCH 2010 and if that's when they expire i do believe we have some 20yo batteries and... had to take the whole thing apart, clean it all out, but the thing is a tank. and it sounds swank. so much better. i'm stoked now cover idea is cooperating so far, too. i am getting my way all over |

All tapes have a playback equalization curve that begins a -6dB/octave roll-off at a time constant of 3180uS, or about 50Hz. Ferric oxide (normal/standard) has a flattening out at 120uS or about 1326Hz, while CrO2 (chrome/ferrichrome) and metal have a flattening at 75uS or about 2122Hz. On the recording side, the bias current levels are different for each tape type and for best performance, a tape deck should be set for the tape that is going to be used. Of course, your playback deck will do the playback EQ for you, so the sound variables have to do with whether the tape's record EQ and bias were correct for the tape used. They generally aren't which was why Nakamichi had high-end decks that let you adjust those elements from the front panel before recording -- pretty nifty. i have no idea what this guy is talking about, but i suspect he's full of shit. |

i know how cassette types work now -- the labeling, really i dug around and i have one (1) hi-bias blank cassette. something to look forward to in the end i like with some of that 1326 sauce |

im pissed cause my deck doesnt record over other recordings properly. something to do with the heads. heads positioning or whatever. |

how so if you record something really loud and then (softly) over it there will be some of it left pausing during record you can get proper crossfades etc ...or is the erase hed totally jacked? |
