I'm so fucking happy that I don't live in my attic apartment
anymore…

i know just what youre talking about.
when my gf still had her flat under the roof its days like
this when you step through the door it takes about a minute
to get naked and lie flat on the floor. and not for any good
reasons, its the just for the extra degree cooler air when
your face is merely inches from the floor...

I wasn't directly affected by the fires but I could smell
some of the fumes from where I lived and for some reason
there was a yellow tint outside. I think it was Saharan
dust. At least the heatwave is over now

every day is a heat wave for wolfslice :(

converted to C for you euros.

I'm not complaining though I have good ac

nooooooooo the celsius conversion did not save

europe in shambles!

anyway its like 40c here for the next two months straight,
absolutely no breaks in sight.

thats a meltdown!
its kind of exhausting when it gets above body temperature

i fear europe going all ac,
the energy usage would be monstrous
and there still is better ways to keep it cool,
like trees, keeping areas free to help ventilating the city,
green roofs, green fascades like in covent gardens london
etc..
the courtyards of our blocks which are usually gardens keep
a couple of degrees cooler than the baked concrete
obviously.

i understand you live in a different region
and climate zone though

electric cars too.

It's still gonna be gas and coal in the end, esp with places
like Germany shutting down their nuclear plants etc.

People have said we're past the tipping point on global
warming.

You can put in the most draconian, authoritarian
restrictions possible but it's still probably too late, and
developoing countries will continue to pump out their
noxious fumes at a higher rate than ever before. Nothing you
can do about human nature, and "constant growth" seems to be
a driving force.

Man I'd just like to run a small bait and tackle shop or
saloon or something and have a low key life. I don't even
fish. Constant growth seems like too much work.

It's just inevitable that the costal cities will eventually
flood, or make levees that will eventually break leading to
flood. Things will never be the same at that point.

Our penguin friends will nest on icebergs that detach and
head directly for the sun.

And the world will find a new equilibrium. Without humans
here at all it would completely heal (been more co2 and
other greenhouses gasses at other points in earth's history
due to meteoric and volcanic activity, it just takes time on
a scale humans are unaccustomed to).

But in the meantime-- If you gots to cool down you gots to
cool down. Being too hot for too long is literal hell, imo.

(i said electric cars referring to a new strain on the
electrical grid itself. That IS something that's coming. I
have not researched whether the energy efficacy of electric
cars offset the combustion engines just burning gas
themselves. It's still gonna be gas and coal regardless tho,
as far as the eye can see).

yeah seems like we/they are doomed to some bigger extent.
as we know the need to reforest for decades yet all we do is
burn down and the beginnings of climate change accelerate
deforestation on a massive scale it feels inevitable to lose
large regions of the world and have trouble in most
remaining.
i saw a graphic explaining how forests carry over the
raining cycles from coastal regions to inner continental
areas. oh well.

i am sad we still use so much coal and gas but,
you can forget about the nuclear power plants though. they
hardly make a difference as they are one of the costliest
energy sources and they need decades of planning and
building whereas you could build the same amount of
sustainable energy within a decade.
now we are shutting down the remaining 3 german reactors
generating 11% of our energy. that sounds a lot for just 3
plants but it is estimated that if all of germany shut down
its standby when idle, only by using a switchable power
cord, it would save 10 billion Kilowatt per Hour, thats
about what 1 coal or 1 of those remaining nuclear plants
generates.
i heard about this but i just checked all the numbers myself
with numerous sites and wiki.

we spend lots of gas and coal on our industry though making
steel, glass and concrete for example. its hard to change
that.

but lets take a look at france for example as nuclear
powered nation. france has 52 plants running and generated
just 37% of their energy with it in 2019. thats 52 times the
risk of a irreversible catastrophe. i dont want to gamble
when the same energy could be built and produced here faster
and safely.

Imagine having someone take it to the charity shop when
you've died and them turning it down.

Imagine.
