"Nobody likes him"
--hillary on bernie sanders

this gave me a solid laugh, as she seems unaware that no one
likes her either.

What a dumb, evil old snake she is. Now she's trying to lose
an election to Trump that she's not even running in.

btw say you love Bernie or I'll find a way to make you code
exclusively on whatever version of PHP xltronic runs on.

he's alright
he's done a nice job of moving the overton window to the
left over the years (for those who listen to anything
democrat, anyways) and for that i am truly thankful.
however, most of his platform is too extreme, and i doubt he
could win.

there are some factors no one ever considers, and it blows
my mind. like: does this candidate have a nice voice? would
barack obama have won without his soothing baritone?
perhaps, but it definitely helped. when trump was elected,
this was actually one of my first thoughts: oh, god. four
years of hearing this man's voice on a weekly, even daily
basis. over the intercom at the supermarket. it's going to
be burned into my brain, and it sounds like a tiny pair of
balls mixed with gravel

bernie just sounds like a hoarse, angry old man. which makes
sense, because he is. "you're darn right i'm angry," i'm
sure he'd reply. never mind policy, because no one reads any
of that shit -- i feel like he's riding a wave of
left-leaning anger on the wake of the full donald
experience. genuine as it is, it covers about 1/3 of the US
and, nominating bernie... no, nope. this is not a good idea

i supported beto o'rourke because he was a founding member
of ~cDc~ but now he's been made redundant

biden is a republican in a democrat costume and for the sake
of electability this makes complete sense, but should he
win, it will be like four years of some distant relative
droning on about every photo of a very thick album.

warren, well, never particularly liked her. she's
essentially assembled a whole team of Very Talented People
to make her Bernie Sanders Lite. some of it is fine, other
bits of it are crap -- like, she's talking about all this
regulatory crap on bitcoin when we're already at a point
where you have to provide a SSN to extract actual dollars
from the bitcoin

buttigeg is actually the most likable of the bunch, the
least irritating to listen to.

yang is reasonably pleasant to listen to and has a
technocratic angle i both like and worry about the
consequences of.

bloomberg's ego is also a billionaire, lord help us if he
manages to buy the nomination this late, but meanwhile he's
pouring half a billion into anti-trump ads so for now i
appreciate his late entrance

the rest of them... meh.

anyways, if you look at the full context of what hillary
rodhat clintop said, she's making a similar case -- the
bernie train rides on leftist anger. "nobody likes him" was
more meant as "2/3 of the country will not vote for him"

but, still. lol. hillary clinton saying "nobody likes him as
a presidential candidate." the irony, there. most democrats
didn't even like her, but what are they going to do -- vote
trump?

flip that around, well, and lots of republicans don't even
like trump, but what are they going to do -- vote bernie?

The commercial calls Sanders “too liberal” and says
that he supports “liberal health care policies” and
giving “government health insurance to everyone.” The
spot also compares Sanders to Democratic heroes Barack Obama
and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and says he would spend
trillions to combat climate change.

honestly, unless you're rich enough to pay a lot more in
taxes for this, i fail to see much downside here

so, oh, maybe. but then i'm saying all this as if the
nomination relies of my personal preference, which it most
certainly does not.

but then they get to this

The Trump reelection effort, meanwhile, has spent much of
the last several weeks focusing its attacks on Sanders — a
gambit that two people close to the campaign described as a
deliberate effort to draw attention to the Vermont senator.
The campaign has used its Twitter account as an anti-Sanders
messaging machine and urged prominent surrogates to train
their fire on him. Their working assumption is that the
presidential attention will only boost his standing among
anti-Trump Democratic voters.

using the trump twitter blast to deliberately streisand
effect sanders, get their hacked drones to all start
trashing bernie, because that will get democrats to support
bernie, and bernie will be easier to beat then biden. it is
disturbingly plausible and very web 5.0, so i'd kind of
believe it. whether it will aid GOP objectives or not, who
knows --

Yet some of the president’s big-money backers say they
aren’t interested in bankrolling an effort aimed at
propping up Sanders. They worry his potential strength in a
general election is being badly underestimated, much as
Democrats wrongly discounted Trump four years ago.

actually glad it's not on me to call any of this.

so, warren. not exactly a kickass woman. she is precise and
technocratic, not in a globally societal way, but with
respect to how she runs her campaign. a certain demographic
will regard her as ~kickass~, but most of america, not so
much -- or so i suspect. i have to admit a lingering stain
from hillary; how she has a similar vibe. it's like the
moment in black mirror's "fifteen million merits" where some
chick is informed, "i'm sorry, but people seem to view you
as ~fundamentally unlikable~"

i know next to nothing about klobuchar, but if the word is
that a female contender is best, i would prefer her over
what i know about warren

meanwhile, bloomberg is shifting into high-gear media-blast
troll mode, and, well, while i will still be somewhat
mortified if he becomes the nominee, at least he's brought a
smile to my face. about time someone punched the republican
ego in the dick. i'd prefer things to be professional, but
if the other side is an angry troll mob, you may as well
accept it and return in kind if you wish to have even the
vaguest prayer

warren accusing sanders of sexism was rather pathetic. i
worry that if her campaign continues to flounder, we will
see more of the same calculated desperation

Vice President John Adams may have used that gavel in 1789,
although he seems to have preferred the attention-getting
device of tapping his pencil on a water glass. By the 1940s,
the old gavel had begun to deteriorate; in 1952 the Senate
had silver pieces attached to both ends to limit further
damage. During a heated late-night debate in 1954, Nixon
shattered the instrument. Unable to find a replacement
through commercial sources, the Senate turned to the embassy
of India. The replacement gavel duplicated the original with
the addition of a floral band carved around its center.

There may have been no more effective wielder of that
legislative instrument than Charles Fairbanks, vice
president from 1905 to 1909. According to one witness, "He
wouldn't hit it very hard, but when things started to get
noisy on the floor, he'd lean over the desk and just
tap-tap-tap a few times on the thin part of the desk. He
used to say," according to the observer, "it wasn't loud
noise that attracted the senators' attention, it was just a
different noise."

The stampede to Joe Biden’s side among Democrats in the
wake of his victory in a single primary has been remarkable
to behold. What they are unlikely to say out loud is that
this isn’t about Biden’s inspiring vision or compelling
personality, so much as their fears that if Sen. Bernie
Sanders (I-Vt.) were the nominee, he’d lose to President
Trump. Biden, for all his weaknesses, looks like a better
bet.

I can’t say for sure that they’re wrong. There are no
certainties here, and no way to account for every variable
that could affect the outcome of the election, let alone
events that we can’t foresee.

But what we ought to realize is that both Sanders and Biden
represent a huge risk to the Democrats — but for
completely different reasons.

To simplify things a bit, I fear that Sanders would do
everything right and fall short because he was fated to
lose, while I fear that Biden would do everything wrong and
blow a race he could have won.

Now that Buttigieg and Klobuchar have ratfucked Bernie by
dropping out and endorsing Biden, and Warren has ratfucked
Bernie by staying in to play spoiler, the only consolation
prize will be watching Trump gleefully wreck Biden's senile
ass-hole in the general.

I think the popularity of Bernie Sanders just has to do
with his shouting, which people seem to mistake for some
sort of intellectual energy. It drives me crazy. And most of
the things he says should be free, I agree with him. Yes!
Public colleges should be free. They were, up until the late
seventies, in New York. Someone has to explain: colleges
were free, but they were paid for by taxes. Take my taxes
and please pay for free colleges. Please do not take my
taxes and give it to Carnival Cruise Line.

This sounds like Bernie Sanders’s platform,
though.

I agree with him. I agree with these ideas. But if you’re
asking me if he would be a good President—he’s not even
a good senator! He just yells. Also, I’ve always thought,
What kind of person leaves New York when they’re eighteen?
People should come to New York when they’re eighteen. And
many of the things that are wrong with New York that prevent
many people from coming—which is how psychotically
expensive it’s become—should be changed. He’s
seventy-eight, right? That’s the age you should go to
Vermont. New York’s a very hard place to live, and I
understand if, by the time people are seventy-eight, they
can’t take it anymore. Go to Vermont, and, when you get
there, take an eighteen-year-old and put them on a bus and
send them to New York.

It’s, like, the Bernie Sanders Exchange Program.

Right. And if the eighteen-year-old says, “Who can afford
to live in New York?” Well, you, because we’re going to
change everything for you. I have always really disliked Joe
Biden, mainly because of the Anita Hill hearings, which I
did not have to be reminded of during the Kavanaugh
hearings. I remembered it very well and I was appalled. And
because he turned Delaware into a cesspool of usury. But I
was so happy when he started winning. And that to me was
sad. I thought, This is what it’s come to. You’re happy
that Joe Biden is winning.

LAZY_TITLE ~ this lady gives me hope i could make a
career out of forum rants. so much of this is... yeah.
there's more that i've written here

As someone with a long history of loathing Michael
Bloomberg, what do you make of his Presidential campaign now
that it’s over?

I never thought Michael Bloomberg had a single chance of
getting the nomination. First of all, Fran, like Bernie,
doesn’t think anyone should have fifty-eight billion
dollars. It is a stupid amount of money for a person to
have, and it should be taken away in taxes. Whenever they
say, “He earned it”—no one earns a billion dollars.
You earn fifteen dollars an hour. “Earn” means work. You
steal that kind of money. It’s chicanery. It’s
ridiculous.

Did you take any pleasure in seeing that the only place
he won was American Samoa?

I did. I’m not as nice a person as you might imagine. I
had huge arguments with friends of mine who said, “Don’t
you think he’d be better than Donald Trump?” And I kept
saying, “Do I think it would be better for the country to
have Donald Trump be the President again or to have the
country watch someone buy a Presidential election?” I
think that would be equally destructive for the country, and
I’m glad that he didn’t get it.
