You know that expression, "don't bite the hand that feeds
you"? It's being reported here (on NPR in the US) that he
was continuing to leak documents despite a condition of his
asylum being to sever his ties with wikileaks - which he had
not done and which had been overlooked until he began
leaking documents about Moreno. To echo Hype's sentiments,
who even knows if that's true but it's a plausible reason
why Ecuador would kick him out of the embassy now.

It's a very sobering and chilling read, what Chomsky said
(thanks, Tony). I'm inclined to want to protect whistle
blowers but I admit I had, over the past few years, bought
into a narrative that he was becoming unhinged and was ready
to say "fuck that alt-right troll". But literal shit on the
walls begins to look like yellow journalism when I take a
step back. And there's more at stake here than my personal
feelings on one white-haired Aussie.

Steve, they say history is written by the historians (and
not "the victors"), but anyone can be a "historian" in the
post-facts era. When one controlled narrative is codified as
"the whole truth" what does it matter what future
generations will remember when we've already forgotten? The
post-facts era is the post-history era.

It's just that it didn't have quite the *purchase* that it
has now, for obvious reasons.

not exactly it just always was a radical organization that
from the beginning didnt care about betraying innocent
people as long as it hurt 'hegemonic' systems like america.
russia likes to help out those sorts of projects.

I think by the end though they were pretty much doing the
kremlins bidding, hence why they never leaked anything
detrimental to Putin, they would have put polonium on his
skateboard

Assange is a slimebag who's been used as a cutout by state
actors who want particular damaging materials circulated.
And that Israel Shamir guy is much, much worse, I googled
around and found his website, he's one of those creepy kooky
Jews for Jesus guys, like Brother Nathanael, who endorses
Protocols of the Elders of Zion antisemitism. I felt like
bleaching my computer after seeing his website.

However none of this changes the basic truth of Chomsky's
point:

The efforts to silence a journalist who was producing
materials that people in power didn’t want the rascal
multitude to know about—OK?—that’s basically what
happened. WikiLeaks was producing things that people ought
to know about those in power. People in power don’t like
that, so therefore we have to silence it. OK? This is the
kind of thing, the kind of scandal, that takes place,
unfortunately, over and over.

Do you think this much effort would be expended apprehending
Assange if he'd been exactly the same person but hadn't been
"producing materials that people in power didn’t want the
rascal multitude to know about"?

In any case Assange has been superseded and obsoleted.
Tremendously damaging and important peeks into power and
money like the panama papers, paradise papers, and so forth
have been coming out without Wikileaks' involvement.
