nba:

17 diferent winners in 60 years and two teams win half of
the total

celtics: 16 wins
lakers: 14 wins

(50% of total)

champions league:

21 diferent winners in 51 years (not 55 as I said before)

real madrid: 9 wins
milan: 7 wins

(31% of total)

doesnt seem like your theory would be a solution in europe

I get the impression that a big team in your opinion is one
with a lot of history. Ok, fair enough. What I mean as a big
team is one with a lot of buying power. I think part of the
reason why smaller market teams, that have had lots of
success in the past thus making them big teams by your
definition, aren't doing so well now is because there is a
lot more money to be made in sports today as opposed to 20
years ago. Salaries have increased dramatically from what
they used to be, and this effects smaller market teams the
most because the bigger teams with more money to spend can
still afford to pay the salaries.

Maybe you're right that it won't have much effect, but I
know first hand what this type of thing can do. Hockey is a
Canadian sport, and we dominate it on the world stage in
Olympics, world championships, etc. But when our Canadian
NHL teams can't even compete due to sky rocketing salaries
and smaller markets there is a problem. Salary caps mean you
have to be selective on the big players you want to sign and
then surround that player with other quality players that
won't demand such large prices. As opposed to teams like
Chelsea in the Premiership, and the Yankees and Red Sox in
MLB that go out and sign up all big name players for
rediculous amounts of money. I think a salary cap makes
leagues more competitive.

The NHL are destroying hockey, they should stop attempting
to cater to the US.

What they should do is change the rules so that 11 players
per team are on the ice for a full game cosisting of two
halfs of 45 minutes.

Salary caps are a dumb idea, I would love to see a dominant
team like the Habs again. It makes for great entertainment.

Where is Nottingham Forest? Maybe they just can't afford to
compete with the bigger name teams.

Close to Nottingham. It still there, I understand it is
protected by the National Trust.

I should've been more clear I guess. I was refering to the
question Nacmat asked about Nottingham Forest, which I
believe is a soccer team.

My semi final predictions were right. Lets just hope that
L'pool beat Chelsea and meet Barcelona in the final.

I must admit I'm a Liverpool fan, and I fear Man Utd more
than Barcelona. Ferguson seems to know more about Benitez'
tactics, than vice versa. That's apparent from the PL
results the past few years.

Well it depends on what you want I guess. I love dynasties
in sports, but what is the point if one team can afford to
load their team with the best players while others can't?
I'd rather see teams winning because they play well together
rather then because they're a bunch of all-stars thrown
together.

liverpool
i think

funkmaster made nice points (as always)

but still I am sure money cannot buy success all the time...
not in football at least

barcelona has spent much more money than ajax all throughout
history

ajax 4 champion leagues
barça 2

but yes, money is important

what I really meant is that some teams that become rich cos
they have a rich owner, tend to dissapear from the elite as
soon as the rich owner leaves, and this happens often

i felt real bad for arsenal when Liverpool got the penalty.
That Walcott run was amazing. Arsenal and Man utd play the
best football in the Premier League. Neutrals really wanted
arsenal to play fenerbahce. A lot of people hate chelsea but
i'm used to it. Abramovic buying the club didn't help our
popularity.

As for big teams, history is in the making. Chelsea won a
fews things in europe (UEFA cup winner's cup, twice) and
plenty in england. The club is over a hundred years old. I
find that to be a history, even if it's not that of huge
clubs like Real Madrid.
Nottingham Forest was a huge club (they have a great
history, bigger than Chelsea's for sure). Liverpool and
Nottingham forest really represented english football at one
stage.

Liverpool - Chelsea, should be dull if the past is anything
to go by. : (
What will it be this time, penalties, a goal when the ball
didn't cross the line? (ok, that's debatable) I'm glad the
secong leg is at Stamford bridge this time. I miss Mourinho
but i'm sort of glad he isn't there for those two games.
Let's hope for goals, n'est ce pas, ecdnads?

I wouldn't say comfy. Chelsea started well but the goal was
thanks to a really embarassing mistake.

Different story in the second half so far, Liverpool seem
comfy.

Liverpool's football, players + manager one bit. Also,
Chelsea's attitude in the game deserved a goal i think.

I am all for barça of course

but I reckon that manchester arrives in much better shape
for this match

so its time to suffer for us barça fans

anyway a team with messi, etoo, iniesta, xavi, deco, henry
or bojan has to have a chance no matter how bad it is doing
in the season

Barca had a lot of injury trouble unfortunately, which has
been painful in the spanish league. But with Messi back, i
reckon this game will be exciting. It could go either
way... this article is a nice one.

may the best team win :)

i would mind just as much as Ronaldo. Rooney is essential.
number 10!
United haven't lost a game with Rooney in the side this

I guess i wouldn't like to see anyone go, apart for Fletcher

not sure..many of my favourite players went through
real..and they're one of those teams that always seemed like
they're having great fun on the pitch.. they played the sort
of football (with ups and downs) im very fond of - often
seemed completly disorganised but still they were somehow
managing to win games..a mixture of everything really

the only option for united now is to WIN at old trafford.

i believe barcas home record is better than their home
record.

fingers crossed barca will nail em @ old trafford.
