yes, its that time of the year

previous stages are alreasy here... and we can start the
chat

milan was the last champion

milan, barça, liverpool, porto where the winners in the
last 5 years, chelsea seems not to get there as hard as they
try, madrid could be back in form, as well as munich
lyon maybe lost their chance, maybe not....

your expectations?

Liverpool.

hard to win games when refs don't let you : (

madrid will take the cup this season. specially now that
they got robben. man..surely they could have found a better
winger for that much money..

Styles is a fucking nob and the fact he has been dropped for
this weekend doesn't alter the fact he stole 2 points from
us.

Robben is fucking scary good. Chelsea just never played him
properly. I still don't think Madrid have enough there to
win it though this season.

if they're going to play like against sevilla it may be a
bit of a problem indeed..it was an early alert call that
will tell them not to fuck around. i don't like robben one
bit..first of all he's dutch, for crying out loud.

i liked a lot how liverpool played that match. it's my
favourite english team and gerrard is my favourite english
player..i hope that sort of refereing was just an
exception..

I can't understand why he was allowed to walk off the pitch
in the first place. The way he went down wasn't normal and
there was obviously something seriously wrong. Only 22 and
a baby on the way, very sad indeed :(

another tough draw for us.. arsenal will be very very hard
to beat.. and the fact that milan is an ageing team will
probably topple the experience factor that that brings with
it this year.. you can't always ask the best from your
veterans.

I'm really looking forward to Liverpool - Inter Milan
tomorrow.

Liverpool are in deep shit at the moment. If they get
knocked out this round, I suspect Benitez will get sacked.

I think Liverpool will win this, though. They're like a
wounded animal right now, and if you poke it with a stick,
you'll get your hand bitten off.

We've never sacked a manager...it would be a shame to start
now but something has got to give soon. I hope we win.

seems like liverpool has it nearer now

same goes for barça

these two were the clearest results so far

also manchester and shalke seem to be in advantage

fenerbahce and roma are leading but a second leg away might
be a tough wall for both as they both saw the oponent
scoring at their homes

I bet chelsea will go through but cannot tell what will
happen in milan

Barcelona
Manchester United
Schalke
Liverpool
Roma
Arsenal
Chelsea
Fenerbahce

excited about the next draw

I wouldnt like to see barça against arsenal or liverpool,
but anyway, all teams are hard now

maybe fenerbahce, roma and shalke are a little easier right
now

offline xkejjer from Malta on 2008-03-12 01:01 [#02184451]
Points: 274 Status: Lurker

roma are not easier.. all they need is confidence in
themselves. they quietly have some of the best players on
the planet in some important positions.. players like juan,
a great defender, aquilani, de rossi, mancini, perrotta,
etc.

fenerbahce and schalke are the easier draw. i am a milan
supporter and i was somewhat glad that we were eliminated.
this way, maybe berlusconi and co will realize that we
desperately need a revamp.

i'm suupporting roma and arsenal for this ch. league.

Here my votes:

Barcelona.................... 8/10
Manchester United ....... 8/10
Schalke ...................... 6/10
Liverpool .................... 8/10
Rome ......................... 7/10
Arsenal ...................... 9/10
Chelsea ..................... 8/10
Fenerbahce ................ 6/10

Definitely best team is ARSENAL, but also BARCA and
LIVERPOOL are very strong. Then MANCHESTER UTD and CHELSEA,
few chance for ROME and no chance for SCHALKE and
FENERBACHE.

We get some premiership games over here, and I enjoy
watching them, but doesn't it get a bit dull having
basically the same 4 teams dominating each year? It always
seems to be Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and
Liverpool dominating the league.

Arsenal and Man United are great teams, Liverpool and
Chelsea are not. Expect a dull contest between them two as
is always the case when they meet.

The english premiership needs a salary cap to keep the big
teams like Chelsea from going out and loading their team
with all big name players, and to keep all teams on more of
an equal footing. From my limited experience of watching the
league, it seems the smaller teams can't even compete with
the big 4, and which is why they are always in the top 4
each year.

The NHL here used to have some major problems, because teams
here in Canada (where hockey is #1) couldn't compete with
teams in the States due to the exchange rate and smaller
markets. So they put in a salary cap (with some other things
to help improve the situation) and now all teams seem to be
on more of an equal footing. It's helped a lot.

chelsea is not a big team

it is a great team now in the last 5 years... but look at
its history

lots of teams in england have won far more than them over
the century

a big team is good over the decades

(liverpool, manchester, juve, milan, inter, real madrid,
ajax...)

arsenal is not a good as liverpool or manchester
(historically this is) but still has a bigger history than
chelsea

Points: 16280 Status: Lurker

Well, it's a big team in that its owner has deep pockets and
can afford to pay the big name players to come there, which
probably means Chelsea will be a big team in the years to
come.

I just think that in a sports league, when there is no
ceiling on what teams can pay players things get out of hand
to the point where only a handfull of teams can afford those
salaries, and then those handfull of teams begin to dominate
the league. This has happened in the NHL as I said, where
Canadian teams could hardly compete due to the exchange
rate, etc. It's also happened in baseball, where the Yankess
and Red Sox are consistantly among the top teams and world
series winners, because they can afford to load their team
with all stars.

I don't know a whole lot about the European football really,
but it always seems that in the Champions league it's the
same teams competing every year. Where is the excitement in
that? It must suck if you're a fan of a poorer team.

well in 55 years of champions league there have been 21
diferent winners

where is nothingham forest now? 2 times champion

having a rich owner doesnt ensure a big future, but it could
happen of course... history is full of teams thatr where big
once and are dissapeared now

being a big team is much more than having 10 great years

if you look at the teams I mentioned , their history is so
much bigger than the history of chelsea... its almost an
insult to compare them

real madrid, milan, liverpool, bayern munich, ajax,
juventus...
