evolume might like this:
some german guy reckons he's worked out where echinoderms
get their pentaradiality from - apparently from a sessile
pterobranch. and he reckons hemichordates are not stem-group
deuterostomes but reduced chordates.

Gudo - 1

Gudo - 2

i completly agree with i_x_ten about people blaming a higher
existance on things they don't understand, most every
culture has done it, ancient greek, egyptian, aztec,
whatever. they have gods for the sun, the moon, war, health,
inundations and prosperity.

that is abit off the topic though, i find evolution much
easier to believe that all the animals and species were
created seperatly, gorillas and chimps are very close to
humans. especially physically and gorillas or chimps (not
sure which) are intellectually the equivalent of roughly 8
year olds.

i mean, if the closest species there was too human was an
elephant, then i might be skeptical, but there are lots of
similar species all through out nature that evolved from one
another, evolution is going on now, it take thousands for
there to be any obvious show of it.

enough about it

that is SO TRUE!

you get creationists saying the most ludicrous shit, getting
evolution confused with the big bang and cosmology. the "why
are monkeys stil laround" thing is another good example of
how they know jack shit about what they are talking about.

p.s. if you think kent hovind is a good creationist, you
should die.

it's a problem. they hear a little about it, decide it's
wrong and then avoid it at all costs. not even considering
looking into it. it's like they choose to deny the facts.

yep. many a time ive been on creationist forums and theyre
all "so where are the transitional fossils?" showing that
they know fuck all.
so then i go and list about 20 "transitional" arthropods
from the burgess shale, and strangely, no one replies to
it.

they know literally nothing, and blatantly ignore any
evidence they are aware of.

they keep going on about piltdown man aswell, as if it has
some sort of bearing on evolutionary theory. YES WE KNOW IT
WAS A FAKE! WE FOUND THAT OUT 50 YEARS AGO!!!

well hello I'm sorry, but you don't seem to know what your
on about.. neither you nor mr ten.. people haven't been all
"oh, we don't understand it therefore it is god" and no-one
does that. it's more "these findings are incompatible with
my beliefs, so they are untrue" which really is the most
basic assumption in the world; everyone does it and it is as
common within sciences as outside them. make sure you
actually know what you're criticising or you're just as bad
as whoever it would be you're criticising (which wouldn't be
many people); you don't understand, so you make something up
and criticise that instead...

"oh, we don't understand it therefore it is god"

what the bloody hell are you on about? of course people
throughout the ages thought that. people thought that the
weather and climate were acts of god(s), for example....

"these findings are incompatible with my beliefs, so they
are untrue"

is completley different. most people will belive the most
rational explanation for something, until it can be proved,
or rather disproved. only then if it causes conflict with
someones religious beliefs will they choose to disregard it.

oh save it

I had lots and lots about this in history of ideas and we
read some old texts (diaries and reports mostly.. of course
the earliest diaries were priests' as no-one else could
write, but there were occasional instances of other people
who one way or another had gotten an education who wrote
diaries) and if you are going to criticise the people of old
(which daggerhappy did.. you didn't until now).. well.. you
can't criticise them for going "I don't understand; it must
be god," as they couldn't have not understood something they
didn't try to understand; their belief in god made it so
that they didn't feel a need to understand. In fact none of
the records of natural phenomena of any kind go "oh, I don't
understand why these weird fiery-like things fall from the
sky," but rather "god showed his anger at [insert recent
event] by letting fire rain from the sky."

he makes some good arguments against the big bang

HOWEVER

all the time he is saying "so the universe came out of an
explosion! everything came from nothing"

and there i am thinking "well if you believe in god then you
must think that god made everything from nothing too"

by criticising science he's criticising himself!

and your last statement.. well first of all what one finds
to be rational depends on ones view of the world; there is
no universal rational principle that dictates what is
rational and what isn't and there are lots of scientific
theories that aren't even halfway rational (like atom
theory, evolution, plate tectonics, both quantum and normal
physics, etc).

He doesn't make good arguments against the big bang except
"I don't understand it and there has been a lot of debate
around it" he's mental, like everybody who thinks they can
prove or disprove the existance of a supernatural being
using science.

i tired to watch it, but i just can't anymore. this guy is
infuriatingly misinformed and ignorant.

it would be fairly easy to give a very convincing lecture
questioning the bible by asking the very same questions. but
i guess their answer for everything would just be, "god made
it that way." it's pretty easy to explain something when
your entire body of evidence consists of a divine,
all-powerful being. at least science is able to seek higher
knowledge and understanding (whether it's correct or not)
rather than blindly accepting the word of something like
"god" as truth.
