surely "belief" is an unsupported opinion?

anyway, who gives a shit, whinging about definitions and
proving god is crap, and never goes anywhere. evolution is
more fun

raised?

no, that's just opinion.

belief is the best you can do in any case.

so spiritualism, and the spiritual side of religion, that
are not belief?

I guess so. If I see a rock I know its a rock, if I read a
book about rocks I learn what kind of rock, then how that
rock formed, then where that rock came from, then what that
rock is to me, then what am I, learning leads to dilemma,
knowledge is not what we learn, its what we discover and
observe. I feel like an ass for stating so much. It's all
just opinions subject to change.

the more dominant religions are only so rife because they
have books to support them. how successful would have
christianity been without a bible?

it meets any criteria for supporting that belief.. your
criteria are not different, but your beliefs are.

The displacement of the idea that facts and evidence matter
by the idea that everything boils down to subjective
interests and perspectives is -- second only to American
political campaigns -- the most prominent and pernicious
manifestation of anti-intellectualism in our time.

-- Larry Laudan, Science and Relativism (1990)

Seeee? Mister Laudan here sais that Drunken Mastah is a
Texas hick.

my criteria are different
i want evidence that can be validated, is plentiful
therefore more reliable, ties in with other evidence, and if
in the form of an experiment, one that can be repeated.
thats not faith!

I'm not anti-intellectualistic.. or, well, I may even be
that at times, but I don't know what you mean by the
expression.. I'm not against higher education (I'm doing
that myself, so...), but I AM against intellectuals, when
addressing people outside of their own field of study still
use the terms that are most likely only known to people that
study what they study; for public information you should use
a language that everyone can understand. However in this
case I am being critical and I must say that some people
need a bit more critical perspective on things for their
relationship towards it to be healthy.

still no difference in criteria, just difference in beliefs;
you don't accept their evidence as evidence of what they
accept it as being evidence for because you don't believe in
what they take it as evidence for.

most of your "knowledge" comes from books or stuff you read
or hear or somehow come by second-hand.
