It's the equivalent of someone shouting in the dark." that's an interesting way to look at it, and for the most part the only users without avatars are spammers that are only here for a few posts before the cool breath on the neck that is XLT moderation drops down, anyway. Its strange that most people here use avatars to quickly determine who is in a certain thread, rather than reading their names, as avs can change but user names can't... don't know why I typed any of that. |

I never remember people if they have a username I can't pronounce (or can't be bothered to pronounce) in my head, particularly ones with numbers. If you change your avatar a lot I won't remember who you are, or if your avatar is not identifiable. If people spam me something which I keep they usually get remembered best. |

Avatars mean more to me than nicks. I hate my nick and I regret it. It's too goony and not very creative. Then there's nicks like Anus_Presley that I absolutely despise... but I don't even notice I despise it anymore. Actually avatars mean shit to me too, I suppose. I think I'd be surprised if I met any of you and you'd be surprised if you met me, there's just so many variables and intangibles. But some of the quirkier parts of our character are on display here, quirks can be telling. |

That's an interesting point, but users who change their avatars often, use ones that are coherent to their persona/personality. Sometimes they are totally spontanious, but get familiar after a few minutes. The thing is, that I actually don't disregard "no avatar" user's posts. I tend to doublecheck the nick to see if it is someone is new/a regular. The posts don't seem to carry the same weight though. |
