Do you find you can get a lot of control when playing? What do you "change" (rather than just hit play and leave it, like a DAT) Do you twiddle FX/VSTi knobs to give variation?
How do you "crossfade" between tracks, or do you just stop one, load another? (I can't see a way of loading 2 tracks)

is it possible to do transitions between tracks in renoise? at least, using madtracker with rewire to ableton live, i cannot open more than one MT-track at the time, and have to play rendered stuff in between the tracker-tuned tracks.

I use renoise live.
To mix tracks I use 2 laptops though. Renoise running on each machine. I use my tascam x-9 as a mixer for the 2 laptops.
I have done live sets with just one laptop though. I use the samplers on my mixer to pull out loops to create segways I can fuck with while I load up the next track.

Pomme, do you midi synch the 2 laptops or do you just approximate by setting same bpm and "stop starting" a few times till they're in synch?
I may well consider using the 5 second kaoss pad sampler for a brief "spanning" loop for single pc use though...

NO, I really know nothing about MIDI. Is there a way I can synch these things? Wow. I use the latter to mix, though instead of stop starting I usually start it and adjust the speed to synch them up, as if I were mixing records..
There is a little drift though.. even if the same exact track is loaded onto the 2 machines. If there is a was to synch the 2 programs via midi please let me know!

Hi Pomme, I've only recently (1 month) started using renoise, so I'm not sure if it has the capability.
I know you can synch devices/software using midi so they'll automatically play in time (like you do in hardware.) I'm presuming there's some option in renoise to set is either as a master or slave? Or, if only slave, then set up something else (anything you can easily change tempo on with midi out would do, just a drum machine or something)as the master, going into a midi box, splitting the signal to both "slave" laptops.

so no one has 1.5 I take it..
is there a hexidecimal command for bypass? ie if you have a track that you want to have a filter or reverb or whatever but just for one pattern.. is there a way to automatically turn that vst on/off?
also.. I think I remember reading that you could hold down a key and drag a vst's slider and it would put the hex. codes in that 0000 column for you (?)
what is 'send' exactly?

no bypass or on/off vst tigger I don't think. But that would be nice.
recording the vsts hex code.. use the right mouse button instead of the left and it does what you need.. even while your recording in real time! older versions do this too.

oh shit oyvinto I am so sorry. i was mistaken. It does not open mt2 files, i just realized. It opens fast-tracker modules (.xm). You can save your mt2s as .xm files in mad tracker, then open them in renoise, but you will 'flatten' the mod and lose all your effects.
sorry to put you through the trouble mate! check it out with an .xm file before poo-pooing it though.

np pomme. i've already discovered the advantages of this tracker. for instance the possibility to assign midi knobs to dsp-effects / vsti stuff and record it realtime. mt does'nt do that.

i used to run 2 renoise windows simultaneously but now i just stop the track when i'm finished an load another.
i mess with just about everything when i play live, vst, samples, speed, position etc, its mad fun!
