Hounds Of Love is an amazing album. start to finish. Big
Sky, Cloudbusting, running up that hill. great production
and songwriting. I think she's amazing.

I don't think she gets the props she deserves though.

that's the strange thing. to me, it feels like she's always
been there (seeing as I was born in '78, technically for me
she has always been there.. :P ), but she was only 17 when
she released "wuthering heights".

she now still only is 46 years old.

anyway.. we're trying to do our own small part in this
thread. :)

Wow i didn't realize she was so young when she started.
amazing. haven't kept up with her in a long while thoough.
Last album I remember her releasing was Red Shoes. We are
doing our small part and I'm sure this thread isn't an
isolated incident.

If you like banging remixes you should listen this
Infusion remix of "Running up that hill"

I've heard "Wounds of love" and it is an excellent album. I
listened to it mainly because the vocalist of Ulver/Arcturs
was talking wonders of it. I found some similarity of
the pic pantalaimon posted with the artwork of La Masquerade
Infernale by Arcturus.

Oh yeah, also other metal bands have some relation with
Kate's work. Brazilian speed/power metal Angra did a cover
of "Wuthering Heights" wich results in a metal ballad and
Within Temptation did the cover of "Running up that hill"

:)

yeah, because there is only room for one woman and a piano
in music :-/

i have kate's "the sensual world" and i actually like it a
lot, but the only songs that really reminded me of tori amos
were (great song btw) "this woman's work" and "between a man
and a woman." they seem to have pretty different approaches
(lyrically and the way they sing in the first place).
anyways, supposedly tori amos had never even heard of kate
bush until she started getting compared to her. but maybe i
need to hear some more kate bush before i decide whether or
not i believe that.

I was half-joking, although the first time when I heard Tori
Amos, she did immediately remind me of Kate Bush.

but that has more to do with her voice and singing-style -
that owes a lot to Kate Bush.

the way i see it, there are millions of women that play the
piano, and some of them probably try to sing at the same
time...and some of them are going to sound good doing
it....

but i will have to listen to more kate bush!

i downloaded 'hounds of love' and i like it quite a bit.
ofcourse i know some songs, but i wasn't aware it was kate.
i'll give it a few more listens and then decide whether im
going to get more of her.

Do you need to understand the lyrics to like her music, or
is does she utilise the voice in a more "instrumental" way?

Hmm, her lyrics... well I think that one can enjoy her music
treating her voice as simply another instrument, one which
she really puts through its paces. But her lyrics are very
poetic as well and contribute a lot to the meaning of the
songs, IMHO. Oftentimes the way that she uses her voice
designates different characters in a song, so one can follow
a dialogue.

yeah I agree, her music and voice is so strong you could
enjoy listening to her either way, her lyrics are often
excellent though. She's not like Liz Fraser in the Cocteau
Twins, its not that kind of music.

Kate confirms album is nearly finished and due for release
next year!

"The album is nearly finished now and will be out next year
- we'll let you know when. It features some beautiful
orchestral movements by Michael Kamen - we had a wonderful
day together at Abbey Road Studios last winter. I'm so
pleased with everyone's work on this record. There are some
lovely performances and I hope you will all feel it's been
worth the wait. Bertie keeps me very busy, he is so much fun
and we are all really looking forward to Christmas. Wishing
you a Merry Christmas and I hope next year is a really happy
one for you. Lots of love, Kate x

found a site that has an online version of the book
"Cathy , which her brother wrote.

well, I say "wrote", it's more or less a bunch of photo's of
Kate as a little girl, with small bits of text.

the photo's are nice, though.

all i have to say after watching that is, FUCKING AWESOME!
excuse my teenager ruse, but that fit the track so perfectly
- given that babooshka is a fucking crazy track, the video
is insane also. it really makes you listen to the words she
is saying, and the images fit perfectly- the only thing i
dont undestand is the giant bass she is dancing with? what
does it represent, maybe the boring or the mundane, or maybe
it appears to boring and mundane but its actually a great
instrument, i have not idea, and i dont want to think about
it too much, its such a great video though tanks a bunch.

I love Kate Bush. I wish I had heard of her years ago. She
is so fantastic. Everybody, what are your favorite records
of hers?

I'll be honest, I haven't bought anything yet besides The
Sensual World. But I have mp3s for The Whole Story (I can't
stop listening...it's a great collection). Where should I
go next? My favorites are Wuthering Heights, Running Up
That Hill, Breathing, Army Dreamer.....OK so basically every
song on that compilation. Any suggestions?

she really gets going from "never for ever" - I'm not a big
fan of either "the kick inside" or "lionheart".

"the dreaming", however, is when she kicks off the
experimental thing - an excellent album.

for some reason i like never for ever better than her other
ones, i really like the sing songy crazy sounding kate
rather than the low hounds of love kate, hounds is a great
album, but never... has this kind of... something about it ,
i just like it better. more delicate or something
