i just don't want the board to completely disappear one day
without any warning.

i've been a member of two boards that that happend to and
it's a shitty feeling. like having the rug jerked out from
under you. people have to scatter to find a new home, and
lots of people get lost in the mix. i fully understand how
phobia, and the rest of the people who are investing time in
building the site feel, but also everyone here has invested
time in building up the community.

I'm not desperate for completion of the site any time soon,
and neither should anyone else be. There're more things in
life.

I am happy to pay $10 for the MB, I still don't really know
what's meant to be coming anyway, I'm not that bothered with
the discog. Maybe they should suggest really bad ideas, like
bigger, moving eyes at the top, the ability for everyone to
add really lenghty "hilarious" signatures, smileys etc, and
then people have to contribute to a certain level to stop it
happening. Holding the board to ransom, in a way.

I payed my money for using the messageboard. The community
is what makes this site good. And it's even got it's own
discog with some nice scans of hard to find stuff. I don't
understand the complainers, and frankly, I feel quite
embarassed for them.

i'm not even a big IDM fan, but i also don't feel bad at all
donating $10, or more even. i definately get my share of
fun out of xltronic.

in a somewhat unrelated asside; in 2001 i was a member of a
very established web design community. they were preparing
for a very large expansion of the site, but then one day the
site just dissapeard completely... the site was timing out.
it was 8 months before it came back, and by then a bunch of
us had regrouped and created a new community (which is
doing very well now), when the original site came back it
was owned by a company, and there was many bad feelings
among members, it's not nearly as big as it used to be... a
real cluster fuck.

the whole point of me telling that story is that i'm kinda
wary donating money here because i fear the exact same thing
may happen any day. it's just kinda rough being on the
outside, seeing relatively little progress, and not really
knowing any news about what's being done with the site.

i mean no offense phobia.

these posts are really a pain in the ass: ecnadniarb,
mappatazee, damn you.

I love xltronic. ofcourse it's not about the money, but as
we pay, we can talk sometime, right? And then some of you
should not act like wise-guys, but discuss it.

In defense of Phobia (strange, I know), Morton payed the 10$
to have enhanced features like the recordbag and the ability
to post images on the board. He got his money's worth I'd
say.

Now, if the subscription had been set up where he would get
access to content not available yet to regular visitors,
then he would have reason to complain.

I am quite sure Phob has not squandered the 10$ here and
there on anything other then offsetting the hosting costs.

I subscribed just to support the site, and have never used
the recordbag nor posted an image. That's not why I
subscribed.

Actually I would like to know how much has been donated to
the board this year...surely it must be close to covering
the cost of the hosting?

don't you think more people would (be willing to) donate if
they saw progress in the site? that is; seeing that it helps
to give a donation,
it would surely change my thoughts, but maybe i'm different

Yes, possibly. But I can also see from phobias point of
view that people keep throwing this $10 donation up every so
often, when he is making up the difference out of his own
pocket...and for a long time was paying for everything by
himself. It seems a little unfair.

Sure complain about the lack of content, but I just don't
think the $10 should be mentioned.

To be honest though, I would rather not have a situation
like WATMM had...which was basically very little other than
a frustratingly large number of dead links.

I payed the 10 dollars because I use the message board, a
lot... the posting of pictures and shit is a bonus!

I paid yesterday. Someone bought me privileges before but I
think the money is well deserved just because I post
regularly and the board is working fully 99% of the time. I
don't use the discography but it's still well worth the
cash.

Morton, just because you paid your $10 it doesn't mean that
you have the right to complain like this. There is nothing
that says "Pay now and see an extra feature added to the
site for every $10 you donate!" or something. I imagine that
the site is expensive enough to maintain as it is; the money
seems perfectly reasonable (especially when you have made
over 8000 posts).

why does everyone keep coming back on the $10? it's not
about the amount of money at all,
like i said in my previous post i just think more people
would be willing to donate if they saw progress in the site
(seeing that it helps to give a donation), if it works both
ways it works better imo (a line like 'more stuff coming
soon people' and a release date in 2001 makes people get
expectations and when nothing changes for months it leads to
disappointments imo (for me at least))

if the people on zz9 plural z alpha still live under
dictatorship i can see where your remark about me not having
the right to complain comes from, otherwise i can't

this mb is great for music information and fun. if you're
after something specific, there are many other sites that
deal with reviews, discographies and all that. personally i
wouldn't mind if it stays like this forever :)
heh, afterall i have +20k points. i'll keep donating too,
only because i would like to see the site remain opened,
just so i can have fun and read about music!

anymore. Not that I don't give a shit but with the huge
delay I stopped looking forward to it. I'll see it when I
see it.

everybody keeps coming back to the $10 because you made
quite a big thing out of no longer wanting to pay it in your
initial post.

so your complaint is really about the site not coming
online.

fine, but the only way you feel you can complain about it is
if you connect it to the money you paid.

so then people keep mentioning the $10.

yes, my complaint is about the site not coming online/not
progressing when there are many people supporting with
donations, so it's not really connected to the actual $10,
but more to the will of people to help, the fact that this
is mostly by donating money isn't really relevant (and the
amount of money doesn't matter at all imo, people are just
showing they want to help when they donate any amount
of cash)

dude there is no mentioning of the ten bucks in his
first post at all.

i'd love to donate and i like to know about what's going to
happen... isn't that fair?

(joyrex, how come you think it's just about the recordbag
and picture-posting?)

well yes, if you want to get pedantic about it, the number
10 is not mentioned.

but he does mention he won't be renewing his contribution,
which is at least 10 dollars.

he directly links his unhappiness about evolution of the
site to him having contributed.

joyrex gets the idea from the frontpage:

"By donating to this site you'll make of its future
existance. To show how much we appreciate your donation
we'll upgrade your account to Premium member, valid for one
year for each $10.
The benefits are currently: picture posting on the
messageboard, maintain your own recordbag and
the upcoming feature artist promotion, which allows you to
upload a few tracks on xltronic to promote your hard work."

I really dont listen to IDM much more. It's becoming boring
to me. I still love the classics but i have yet to hear
something new and innovative to my ears.

Yeah it has been a long time though since i heard something
was going to happen with this site. I guess i am kind of
interested to know what is going on.
