Wasted Xltronic Membership money

By now it must be about a year ago i donated some bucks to
Phobia in order to support xltronic and seeing the page
getting finished, or at least seeing it progress...

In the past year nothing happened at all in my view.
Maybe some stuff was added to the discog but even stuff like
the mike & rich CD (or 12"), chris clark's empty the bones
of you CD and loads of vsnares' releases aren't even there
(not even mentioning all missing covers).

I think it pretty sad that it isn't even possible for
someone to find things like afx interviews, trivia or a
decent discography on the sites that used to contain all
these info and possibilities, like aphextwin.nu/xltronic.com
and watmm. All this stuff has been offline for months, if
not years.

In the past we were told that the site would come online
somewhere in 2001 or 2002, if i recall well (sorry for my
bad long term memory) and now all we hear now and then is
that the wheels are in motion (like for the past couple of
months: 'more stuff coming soon people').

It may be understood that i won't pay for another year of
support/membership. Not that i care about the few bucks, but
the fact that i don't see anything happening at all with the
money bothers me. If there would be more (or at least any..)
progress in the site i would be willing to support and that
way seeing it getting better and better, but that's not the
way it is.

Please don't see this as a big middlefinger to the ones that
create(d) xltronic, i'm just explaining why i won't support
anymore. imo it was rather naive to try and create a discog
with that many arists and features with so little people
working on it, it'll never get finished if you ask me.

I'm aware that many people have already complained about
this and that i don't tell anything new (of course i'm 'just
another moaner'), but imo you gotta give people who support
something (like for instance progress), you can't let'em
wait forever.

Hej då.

well, keeping up this mb alone costs quite a lot of money,
if I understand correctly, so if you spend quite some time
here, it's nice to give something back.

I mean, I didn't donate because of all the stuff that's
supposed to be coming, but because of what already is here:
the messageboard.

and I WANTED TO POST PICTURES AGAIN!!!!1121!!!!!

Every summer I get a couple of creative writing students in
doing work experience. I get them to do me about 10,000
posts that I can use over the next year, then use a
combination of XML and SQL to automatically post them when
the appropriate topic comes up.

phob won't just let anybody help, as far as i know he chose
a few people to help him on the site and that's it,
same counts for the discog, i read in a couple of threads
that people offered to help him on the discog but he only
wants certain people to work on it, to ensure the good
quality of it. fair enough i'd say, but then again with a
huge discog like that it wouldn't hurt to let more people
add stuff imo.

unfortunately i don't know how i myself could help really,
i'm not very good with computers, i don't have
specific/interesting information about artists and i don't
have scans etc. to help on the discog, the only way i could
help was by donating and that i did

i do get your point though, it's easy to complain, i know

but my point is that all the patience and donations could be
rewarded by showing something more from the site,
i know the intention is to show everything at once when it's
done, but my guess is that that might be a long time and
people won't know if there's anything happening and what
they're waiting for

I don't see it as wasted. Admittedly it's a shame the site
isn't ready but there's a good reason for it and Phob isn't
forcing you to pay. There is stuff going on I'm sure of it
and we're just not seeing it all.

It would be good though if there was a section where we
could submit stuff that was missing and we have the
information for. A holding area maybe. It wouldn't be part
of the discog till a Mod pressed the yes button or whatever.

I haven't donated any money as of yet, mainly due to the
fact that I don't have any money for myself, let alone the
board. If I had donated money I would be quite pissed off,
as I hardly see any changes. The main point of my being
pissed off would come from the feeling of being let down. We
make a huge effort to be a part of the community and keep
xltronic alive. When I see the homepage getting updated once
in a blue moon I feel let down. I feel that there are few
IDM fans out there and I think xltronic (with it's buzzing
forum) should be up to date with IDM news. I mean how hard
is it to write a couple of paragraphs on the homepage? I'd
be happy to do it! Don't tell me you need to employ people
to write a couple of paragraphs. Phobiazero has more than
enough writing skills.

Just hosting the Xltvibes costs bucks...

Each one is downloaded literally thousands of times and
they're big files = lots of bandwidth.

Maybe there should be two seperate donation accounts? 1 for
the MB (say a few $$$) and the other for website costs
(maybe a few more $$$$)? I personally would donate to both
as I would like to see some features on the xltronic web
pages.

$10...wow...shit...you donated $10, shit you have been
ripped off mate. 8072 posts means you have donated $0.0012
a post assuming you have never used the discog or downloaded
a vibes. I can see why you are pissed off, it's only
human.

As phobia has stated in the past it costs $1200 a year to
just pay for the hosting. That means 120 people would have
to donate just to cover the cost of the board...I don't
quite think that many have.

as i said in this thread it's not about the ten bucks, i
just expected that more would be done with the donations
than keeping the mb running and letting us download the
vibes,
maybe more is happening but we don't see it, this way people
don't see what the use of donating is imo

It's always a little 'forbidden' in my eyes to complain
about the delays of the site. And ofcourse, people are busy
and it costs a lot of money, but i'm also starting to have
different feelings about it.. A few years back i was very
exciting about this whole xltronic project. And now, i'm not
excited about that at all anymore. I just don't know what's
going on. On the one hand i can understand, maybe in some
nearby future we will see more. But when? I don't have a
clue about it. I want to be involved, to know what's going
on, that's a part of a 'community' too, right? And then you
know why you're donating.

I expected more, but ofcourse i don't blame anyone. I can
understand Morton's first post though. Still i feel we're
not allowed to discuss it, but it's been since 21 August
2001 like this. That's 2,5 years!

The only thing i would love to see is a little more open
mind about the xltronic status. And a definitive xltronic
releasedate.

and a little more moderation. There are still way to many
shit-threads going on. I want to donate for IDM music
information, and useful experiences of others.

i don't think it's a secret that the money you donate go to
paying for keeping the server, and not to developing the
