album of the year

i'm kind of surprised think tank never gets mentioned...
i'd say blur made what is easily the best album of the year
with think tank. far better than hail to the thief, which
was the first radiohead album that really disappointed me.
as for draft 7.30, autechre can suck it.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2003-09-20 22:42 [#00871677]

yea i enjoyed think tank a lot and found autechre a little
underwhelming.

epohs, i think that's a weird but very good analogy. i agree
with it.

i was singing at the top of my drunken lungs in the midst of
150 people that i barely knew at my own house, topless
wierdo chicks dancing on my couch, and i was talking to some
stinky hippy dude when i formulated that theory.

this double album is gonna be hella GOOD! i loved the
descriptions the dood used for the tracks.....sounds like he
couldn't say enough!

man i have to see Outkast in concert AGAIN soon!!!

For me I would say Draft and One word were my favs this
year.

The new cardigans was a total bummer for me, I was really
fucking pumped for it too and It was the opposite of what I
wanted : |

It's a good album, but it's not what I was hoping for. Where
as Autechre and Prefuse really hit the spot.

my favorites so far:

rock album of the year: heroine sheiks - Siamese Pipe

electronic: autechre - draft 7.30

pop: ohgr - sunny psyop

this topic needs to be always on the first page, cause tthe
end of the year is very very soon.
for me, it is draft....cause it's so brave and unique. and
relaxed, oh how much are both of them relaxed on this
album....

thinking about the others, see you in december

hmmm, I thought Draft was underwhelming like titsworth
said... I can't really think of much stuff I've bought
that's been from 2003... Manitoba's Up in Flames is awesome,
as is Four Tets Rounds... and there's a special place in my
heart for Lost horizons by Lemon Jelly! :)

Draft 7.30, Sloan's ''Action Pact'' (love the pun!), or
Chris Clark's new one. But this is off topic and I should be
punished.

but... how the hell can autechre make such a lot of music
and still they are always top material of the year???

they are so fantastic

i was right behind andre on the massive line to rdj @ ATP02
(before he whispered a few words to the bouncer and walked
in dancing midgets>).
he was bouning along to the ragga-drill, and i was thinking
that they'd probably bring some more to the tehcnical with
this next album if he's listening to aphex.. they've always
been stepping things up, getting spacy since atliens.

yeah stankonia's good -
timbalandm, the neptunes and rodney jerkins have all totally
had their moments too but they're a bit overkilled now.
outkast and the neptunes dig warp and rephlex.
i'm not gonna say what i reckon my fave album is yet cos
there are months to go yet but at the moment it's the bug
album on rephlex - definitley the best live act i seen this
year, him and sun0))) at atp . best live act last year was
boredoms

(and most people I know) hate it, or are at best indifferent

i think HTTT has some of their best songs: sail to the moon,
wolf at the door, i will, where i end and you begin. the
rest are about average for them, but it proves that they're
still progressing instead of digressing.

i've listened to the first nine songs off Andre's disc (The
Love Below) and all i can say is "holy fucking shit". i
can't believe how good this is so far. if it keeps up, OWE
will actually have some competition for my album of the year
pick..

btw, you can also get it for $10.99 at Circuit City (i work
there)!! :)

oh yea i listened and i love it. big surprise there, outkast
are always impressive. i don't know which disc is better
yet, there's not a bad song on either. big boi i am probably
more impressed with because andre's my favorite of the two
lyrically and stylistically, plus i knew andre played
instruments and had quirky taste but big boi does in his own
way too and his disc, which is mostly self-produced, has
major flare. i'll be listening to this album for a good
while.

thanks for the bump, zeus! as if you didn't already know,
spending friday night alone on xltronic, you are TEH
AWESOME!!!!!!

I just bought this album a couple of days ago and so far I
love it. I've found that I've taken more of a liking to
Speakerboxxx than The Love Below. I need something with a
beat, but I'm sure the other disc will grow on me.

Bowtie has been stuck in my head since i first listened to
the cd.
