say 'NO' to drugs

re: deconstruction/critique being pointless .. i would argue
to the contrary ... it is pointless in that it doesn't
advocate a point. but there is much point in
countering/challenging other points. ie. not to lose sight
of the plurality of points!

No. I am poorly read. There is so much more to read (isn't
there always?).

And yes, I am trying to keep it at the level of an opinion.
Thank you for that.

though in light of, and the scope of the topic it's a bit of
a farce to "deconstruct" your point of view as such .. you
didn't exactly come across dogmatic etc. plus its a
messageboard :)

btw: what do you mean by "socrates' method"?

good point. you got me. i do appreciate your concern, but
most people here seem old enough to choose what they put
into their bodies. in a way, you just sound like a 3rd
parent.

i was serious about the shroomery forums though. you should
check them out. especially the Spirituality and Philosophy
forum.

haven't read much lacan (just an excerpt or two). but its
pretty cool .. its sort of like sassure spiced up with
psychoanalytic metaphors in a post-heideggerian atmosphere
...

Seeing as this is deviating from the main topic under
question, and for fear of losing sight of the original point
of starting this thread, maybe we should keep this for
later.

In any case, here is the socratic method

I'll check them out. Thank you.

(about the parent bit, I feel that humans have to keep the
humanity alive...we are all we have...no one from outer
space is going to come and save us all, one fine day...we
just have to take care of each other as long as we live on
this planet.)

re: socratic method -- ok .. thought as much. very nasty and
clever indeed. but yeah sure .. i'll have my cunning up my
sleeve, waiting/ready to unleash - haha ..

back to the topic.

offline korben dallas from nz on 2003-05-26 07:20 [#00715105]

so back to the initial post:

1 . why would you guys (and I mean those here that
seem to be on acid/ mushrooms/pot quite a bit) do it so
regularly? ... seem[s] like the situation round here is a
lot worse than just that.

seems to me you have answered your own question. in order
for you to understand and thus support/justify the actions -
the situation must be worse than just that ..
whatever that is.

but then maybe you don't think this is the case, in which
case you were trying to point out, or cunningly asking why
people did it ... [in the hope/care (?)] of exposing the
absurdity of the actions???

2 . why do i care[?]

because you think its bad, and bad is bad and good is good.

ok i'm calling it a night :)

some people like to do gardening
some like fishing
and some like to get thouraghly mindfucked. for me its just
a hobby.
Not everyone who snorts coke is a junkie, not everyone who
takes acid dies, just as not everyone who drinks alcohol is
an alcoholic or will die of liver disease. in my experience
many drugs simply have a bad reputation, its only when u
take them that u actually realise its all bullshit. its just
an alternative to drinking beer and gettin lairy, but is no
more or less dangerous, and personally id prefer to chill
with a spliff and perhaps the odd line of k, than drink ten
pints of stella and have a good old fuckin beat up down the
pub

to do on rare occasions for obvious reasons.

The way I see my abuse is a matter of balancing fun and
health.

My (immediate) health is not suffering much at the moment -
I'm still quite fit and healthy and very happy.
So since I've kept it to a ....sort of reasonable level, I
haven't had too many ill effects.
If I didn't do drugs I would be having a whole lot less fun
and I'd have experienced a lot less.

Don't get me wrong, I still have mad fun when I'm straight,
I just like to let it go and be able to act weird and feel
different on the weekends.

(by the way in most aspects I'm doing the worst as I do
amphetamines rather than psychoactives.....mostly as we
can't get acid here)

days (91-92), i have used Speed, XTC, LSD and cocaine. It's
ten years ago i definately break with hard drugs. Now i only
smoke weed :=)

I smoke weed (usually after work) to unwind. Its also great
listening to music stoned because you literally hear
everything about the song, it just gets processed different
in a way that very enjoyable.

As for psycadelics, I use them rarely... mostly when I am
sick of the everyday bullshit and I need to remind myself of
where I am in this crazy universe.

how long will we continue to live with the illusion of
safety?

drugs aren't the only quicksand in which you can bury
yourself.

when we have freed ourselves from the need to suffer, and
when we have freed ourselves from desire, when we no longer
indulge in judgement of our peers, when we learn to love
unconditionally, when we know who we truly are, we will not
abuse drugs or each other.

simply refusing to take drugs because you fear their danger
accomplishes nothing, except to preserve your body; but if
your body serves only ignorance, then what have you
accomplished?

my advice: find the path, and walk it.

alnuit.....nice sentiments, however i'd like to give you
some advice.

don't waste your time telling drug takers that what they are
doing is dangerous, harmful to ones health, and just in
general not a good idea, etc.... cos they will come up with
1000 reasons why what they are doing is fun, good, right,
not harmful, necessary, etc.......

it's like talking to brick wall. even though quite a few
former addicts have given them good advice on this MB. each
one will come to their own decision in the future, either
through bad or good experiences, and whatever they decide is
fine, cos it effects me not at all.

i just don't read drug topics.....

Yeah and also make sure you don't sound like you're sitting
on your high horse coz no one will listen to you, and I'm
not just talking about drug discussions.

Also about ravers being scummy - mostof my friends trhat are
ravers are just nice people when theyre not on anything
aswell.....far nicer than the average snobby idm geek...

not saying anyone here is, but it can be quite an accurate
stereotype sometimes...

The general idea is that drug users are STILL ABLE to have
fun when they're not on drugs. I know this can shock people,
but I don't do drugs during the week and holy shit! I'm
often seen laughing, smiling, being talkative, hanging out
with friends and being with my girl.

Holy shit! I absolutely need my drugs to have fun!

I havent taken a hard drug in 7 years but i do have a big
problem with weed and hash.
I toke every day and am mentaly addicted to it because i use
it to escape the drudgery of everyday life. I know this is
wrong but its so easy for me to do and thats the problem i
think .
the world is a bit depressing at the moment .
I often wonder what it would be like to feel pure and clean
again.
drugs eat you from the inside out :(

drugs eat you from the inside out :(

yeah =(

the most dangerous thing about drugs is the addiction. If
you just do drugs now and then, it's one thing (I mean it's
still poisoning your body) but if you're addicted it means
you're less free...
You're unnecesseary dependent.

freedom is something to fight for.
believe me.

absolutely,
i think there are alot of people that would benifit from an
LSD experience.

infact, it has been used to cure drug addiction and
alcoholism.
i think i have learned a great deal from my experiences, so
i think i was also a person that should have and did
experiment with these things.
