drugs? isn't your brain just a big drug in itself? who's to
say one chemically-induced reaction is any different from
another?

Yeah, you guys do know that your brain contains DMT that it
releases before you die. So you think you'll be sober your
whole life, but in reality you will do a heavy dose of DMT
just before you die.

(btw DMT was made illegal some time ago despite the fact
that your brain naturally excrets it moments before your
death)

I can see the point in most other lines of reasoning...but
THAT is quite lame. I mean, our body excretes (and secretes)
quite a few things during its lifetime Don't tell me next
that pitutarin, thyroxin, and estrogen should be taken off
the schedule lisy and fed to people on a regular basis. Also
the stomach secretes Hydrochloric acid on a regular basis,
enough to dissolve a small piece of ZInc. So we can't start
drinking hydrochloric acid next, can we?

think of me while you trip!

actually, to digress from that conversation, i'd like to

last few minutes before my death. :)

NO the brain is Not one big drug

if you cant discern pure thought from thinking through a
screen then you are very misguided!

offline korben dallas from nz on 2003-05-28 00:37 [#00717510]
Points: 4605 Status: Regular

and how do you define pure thought? do you not always
already have a mood/screen through which you think/see the
world?

offline korben dallas from nz on 2003-05-28 00:38 [#00717511]

can you think without the chemicals in your brain?

what im saying is that you cannot perceive reality when you
put something between yourself and it. be that a
preconception, or a drug induced screen

offline korben dallas from nz on 2003-05-28 00:42 [#00717516]
Points: 4605 Status: Regular

just exactly how do you rid preconceptions?

isn't what you've just said based on a preconception?

offline korben dallas from nz on 2003-05-28 00:45 [#00717519]
Points: 4605 Status: Regular

how can you understand things without a preconception?

offline rockenjohnny from champagne socialism (Australia) on 2003-05-28 00:49 [#00717522]
Points: 7983 Status: Lurker | Followup to korben dallas: #00717516

no, its based on experience :) which are arguably similar
things, but my experiences are concrete, rather than being
hypotheses (which is largely all that drug reasoning amounts
to!)

ridding yourself of preconceptions takes a lot of
discipline, but its the goal of buddhist faith.. achieving
oneness throughout yourself and your environment.

you have to break down preconceptions one at a time. takes
some level-headedness to realise what is an illusion, or
constructed by the mind, rather than being truly real

If you think that temporarily altering your thoughs is
always a bad thing, you are closed minded!

thats not what im saying

ill say it again, im no angel.. ive tried a Lot of things.
and i still go on benders with alcohol and weed

im just old and experienced enough to know deep down that
its all bullshit, and does nothing to develop you as a
person.

i think im anything But closed minded to say what i have. in
fact i think im making a lot of sense.

offline od_step_cloak from Pleth (Australia) on 2003-05-28 03:04 [#00717597]

But all I see is you stating an opinon as fact.

And I'd probably nto argue that it's DEVELOPED me as a
person per se, but through extacy use I've become nicer,
more tolerant and I've gained a fuckload of really really
good friends.

If that's wrong, then I don't want to be right.

Dude, seriously, I'm not having a go at you or anything, I
got respoect and thatr, I'm simply debating - sorry if I
sound a bit harsh. I don't mean to.

im not sure its so much about developing as a person, no
more than your weed & alcohol benders are about that

to be factual.
