i suppose what it boils down to is that aphex has been
dangling "i have six albums finished" for years now, and
instead we get microwaved postmodern horseshit. interns
writing max/msp patches and some tool wandering around
backstage with hipster-chic tape recorders thinking he's
prometheus bringing fire to the fanboys

come 'round to my place in massachusetts and you can have
one for $20. they're poster-size and not good enough to
warrant boxing up properly. just do 'em 'cos i find it
relaxing.... cardboard's easy to work with and hot glue sets
quickly. i listen to NPR as i work

Earlier I asked EpicMegatrax if he wanted a cup of tea but
he said he only communicates through his music. He posted a
link to his band camp thing.

cheering. it's amazing how much they added to the sonics of

as epicmegatrax continued to diss aphex in vain he repressed
his feelings even more about his own below average music and
his complete denial that he wasn't very good at anything.
This was due in part to the fact that he'd put his head up
his own rectum at 'high velocity', with the hot glue.

it wasn't epic's week as the day before
he'd accidentally hotglued his tiny ball sack to one of his
collages right after his mum caught him wanking in front of
the mirror.

you've missed an important quantifier, 808flaps. i'm not
dissing aphex, i'm dissing this gimmicky orchestral thing he
did. it's a watered-down ripoff of keith emerson's flying
piano (linked above). the piano piece itself, if you simply
listen to it instead of being distracted by the spectacle,
is shit. the ones on drukqs were much better.... on this, he
just sort of plays a chord each time the piano reaches a
zenith. boring.

i just worry he's had people sucking his dick for so many
years, he's forgotten how to put a real piece of music
together. like fatboy slim says, i'm #1, so why try harder?

" i'm dissing this gimmicky orchestral thing he
did. it's a watered-down ripoff of keith emerson's flying
piano (linked above)."

incorrect, the swinging piano was about the SOUND, hence the
long held chords.
doppler effect on the strings, which was totally fucking
amazing, coz i was sat 10meteres from it, like the ultimate
chorus, leslie effect, easily the most beautiful thing I
ever heard/saw at a show, pretty creepy as well, half a ton
piano swinging...I think it must have been reinforced,
surely the legs would snap otherwise?
I thought as did my mate that maybe the strings were
stretching and loosening, maybe slightly, as the pitch
changing really was complex and seemed more than just a
doppler shift.

emersons is about the show, and NOTHING to do with the
sound, as his is not a real piano, hes miming or did you not
notice that? I think if you didnt notice emersons was mimed
then the whole thing would probably be wasted on you anyway.
I dont mean this in a nasty way, just most people are not
THAT into sound.
Also a piano wouldnt work upside down.

saw all your links before btw, nothing new there, voder one
is a good un yeah, classic, bit like heinrich mueller and
his missus.

anyway good luck with your music and the collages, its been
great to hang out with you positive people, im outta here!

one last thing, just wanted to get this absolutely right,
you are dissing a gig you didn't actually go to right?

now thats a topic all of its own don't you think?

btw I had to give the Nagra back, it was on lend, V nice
machine though, pretty good clip mic

alright, alright, here's an idea.

at this point every man and his ferret has spilled beer on a
casio sk-1 and laid claim to its gurgling last gasps as a
part of their personal artiest. but what about when you that
chap with the chunky glasses outbids you, paying 92quid for
a stock SK-1 when you only had 88? well, EpicMegatrax is
here to save your bacon with a cunning backup plan

1) find a mid-90s rompler keyboard. ideally, it would have cost
$hundreds new, and your high school "digital music lab" had
30 of them, and they were mad cool until you realized what
you actually wanted was a sampler.

2) open that bad boy up. vacuum out the bed bugs (hey, you
got this keyboard for free, right? just tell people it's
like restoring a car or some shit). find the chip that says
32MB VOICE PROM or some derivation thereof. doodle around it
with sharpie. scout out good points to put in a dozen patch
jacks in a drunken furor.

3) this is the hard part: find the voice and address lines.
essentially, the voice prom is a giant phone book: the CPU
gives it coordinates, it returns precise chunks of a
wavetable some engineer at roland recorded with $50k mics.
via randomly shorting these points together, you
simultaneously create new addresses while screwing with the
returned results. in my universe, quinn has a masters in
data bending. the ones on the outer corners and/or the ones
connected to large veins of soldier are power/ground; don't
touch those. just use a bit of wire and poke at it for a
while. engineers are orderly chaps, it'll likely be in a
cluster of 8 or 16 etc., though sometimes it goes off the
edge of the chip and wraps around the other side (you'll
know what i mean when you see it)

and voila. you'll have instant glitch you can't ever get
from a fucking vst, manually patchable, and
MIDI-controllable.

i have a casio sk-1 but it's not in this vid.

I didn't personally see the show but from just the youtube
vids i saw, if the new Aphex album was a DVD with
professionally recorded video/audio of the show, i'd be
extremely satisfied.

I guess it's as much of a long shot as Autechre releasing
their best material in the last half-decade, the Untilted,
Quaristice and Oversteps live shows as mastered board
recordings.
