aiiii folks, just watched this movie having never heard
about it before (i don't watch tv or go to the cinema
unfortunately xD

I think its a worthwhile movie all in all, nice concepts
that they dabble with. Only thing that sucked is that it
didn't really make sense why the engineers turned out to be
wankers, i thought there was gonna be a huge orgy when they
all found each other, using the robot inspector gadget guy
as a prop. boy was i disappointed at that.....

it was okay. the separate bit and pieces were good, but it
just didn't cohere into a solid movie at the end of it all.
there were great set pieces and moments, but i had no clue
why anyone was doing anything - every character's
motivations seemed completely hidden, each one was just
there to serve a purpose, themselves being set pieces.

also, the final scene is just puke. were they really trying
to setup a sequel?

To everyone with all those questions about the movie
Prometheus.
When I watched this film the first time I though "eh"

so many questions, i thought made the movie lack structure.

But after I read this forum post I totally changed my
opinion on the movie.

LAZY_TITLE

seen it twice since then

I have a theory that the director is actually a Sesame
Street character called Wriggly Scott. He's related to
Oscar's pet worm Slimy.

Watch it again, it will BLOW YOUR MIND.

I get that there's alot of references and allegories, and
jesus-me-this and jesus-me-that, but it's not the idea
themselves that makes it bad, it's the execution.

And the notion itself, that God is von Däniken, really
means nothing, since it's just a big what if-scenario. What
if we are created by aliens? Yeah, so what? What if we are
created by unicorns?

Movies like, say, Bladerunner works because the questions
they pose, are phenomenological, and not merely
hypothetical.

* it's not the ideas themselves that make it GOOD, it's the
execution.

yeah. dissapointed also.

first of all fuck whoever decided that this is 3d only.
every movie i have seen in 3d has gained nothing besides my
frustration about a much higher ticket cost, sore eyes and
not seeing shit on the screen due to the darker projection.
i really hope they'll show at least batman in some non-3d
screening.

i basically kind of destroyed my whole mood before even
watching it after i read that a sequel was already
announced. and this is where you can stop reading,
basically.

the film is basically designed to not answer any questions
at all. so why bothering watching it at all ? i really love
contemplating about difficult movies but in this case, as
long as most of the theories will be debunked anyway in the
next parts there is absolutely no reason to do so. problem
is - i'm very afraid scott doesn't know himself. answering
at least a few questions would mean tieing the movie to a
certain theory. the way he did even the ridiculous
jesus-was-an-engineer story might end up true when he'll see
a lot of supporters of this one. which i hope he doesn't.

i could probably forgive this if the movie would make it up
with other elements. but there is not much to look at. giger
did a very nice job with creating the alien world but
someone did a terrible job on the human side. the characters
are 2d and totally expendable. besides shaw and david nobody
really seems to bother a lot with the outcome of the mission
at all. i know that this was supposed to bring back the mood
of the original alien but this was pretty pointless. yeah
and besides that those comedian quirks like shaw running
around af a cesarian, the totally racist persona of janek,
the bad makeup of weyland etc. etc.

I streamed it in shitty quality a while ago. it was a shitty
film.

- it starts with a avatard lookin humanoid - i got instagay
vibes from that scene.

- the characters are about as dull as those found in most
modern films. their scripts were boring and for some reason
the new job of casting agents is to dig up forgettable faces
that are sort of 'correct' and bland. really really hated
that woman we were supposed to give a shit about and as this
film was trying to conceptually reflect the 1st alien for
whatever chinstrokey reason i guess this biatch was supposed
to be the new ripley. i fucking hate this decade

- the alien architechture shit was SHIT i felt like i was
watching something cheapy like fucking stargate trying to be
gigeresq. hieroglyphs and holograms of avatards running
around really didnt interest me and the bit where the robot
fella (the new ash - i hate this fucking decade) went into
that room and activated the starmap or whatever -yeah the
bit where he had to blow on a FUCKING FLUTE and computery
halo lookin shit started whizzing around. urgh

- the alien life forms were spazzy disjointed ideas and i
really blank out of films these days whenever they feel like
going on about infections so yeah the zombie thing was gay
and wasnt needed.

-cant think of anything that redeems it. its a disaster made
much worse by the way it tries to molest the ideas of the
first alien even though i suspect the film sees itself as
making clever parallels with the original (that will make
sense in TEH SEQUEL and also say something wanky about
'films then and now' - get fucked)

i watched it the other day and i quite enjoyed it,
mainly because i had no expectations and just wanted to have
some espacial-adventure-film time and i was satisified in
that sense.
but its true, the plot was a bit weak and the things
happening without much sense... compared to aliens and the
tension and opressive feeling they got there, it was real
shit... its like they got plenty of interesting ideas, but
they were badly developed.

^^^^agreed. it's not bad but it's not mind-blowing, either.
Rapace is no Weaver, that's for sure. the only character
that stayed in my memory was...Vickers. Theron was great, I
must say.

I watched it twice and then I watched Avengers: Avengers

uhhh man it sucked i wont sit thru it again but its probably
not the develish work of shitness i typed it out to be
before. its a modern film thing like the way dark knight has
a sloppy plot and good actors (gary oldman/charlize theron)
are squeezed into seriously flat roles. this is topped off
with a complete lack of finesse in executing the subtext,
which it sort of unnecessarily burdens itself with. then the
fucking flute bit and i just dont like the way everything
looks sort of like xbox cutscene halo bullshit which is ok
for halo but this is halofying one of the most sacred film
moments. why did ridley think the plot needed to be
thickened by demonstrating that this fascinating
unexplained lifeform in the first film was really this
boring flute wanker in a whizzy fold away tech suit?

My theory is that the space jockeys will turn to not be our
creators in the sequel films, but rather a sister species
engineered by something else. That is why they hate us and
want to kill us. Could be wrong, but even though they are
more advanced than us something about them engineering us
doesn't seem quite right so far.

then how would you explain the first scene where the
engineer is shown seeding dna on some other, earth-like
planet?

i suppose you could say it was the "engineers" going off and
trying to do what their engineers did, but that'd be really
obtuse.

which, now that i say it, seems totally plausible in this
universe :P

I need to watch that part again, but wasn't he drinking the
black liquid?

Everything else that stuff produced was not nice, so is he
seeding the planet to make something like humans, or
something like trilobites and xenomorphs?

It is possible that they took the technology of their makers
and turned it into a weapon to destroy rather than create.

Another thing I read is that there are simply multiple
factions of the engineers, some that like us and some that
don't. In the beginning the engineer is wearing a robe and
sacrifices himself, so he is one of the peace loving ones,
while the ones later are wearing black body armor so they
are the warlike faction that hates us and uses the
technology for pathogens and destruction. In that case I
would stick with other, peace loving engineers as the ones
who made us, but we found the warlord, assholes of the
species.
