How can people voice any declarative with such conviction as
'this shit. this is good'?

These are all just our opinions, which all have the same
value, surely!

I mean, SPD, I completely disagree with you, but I respect
your opinion, man. I am sure there will still be films we'd
both appreciate.

lupus, thanks for bringing Network to my attention- the
performance in that short clip was not only flawless and
powerful, but amazingly relevant to today's political and
economical climate. Looks fucking brilliant- I am
downloading it now.

All That Jazz - greatness. 70's films were so ballsy.

i'm a huge Before Sunrise/Before Sunset fan. there's a
million people who think that is boring shit. Amelie i love
love love. what can i say. i like happy stuff.

yeah, Adaptation, i just don't know. never understood the
love. i mean Nick Cage, gmafb. he was better in Con Air,
really.

though, to anyone i was a little hard on, kisses.

nicholas cage is one of these guys who can be completely
lame or brilliantly used in the hands of the right director.
like wild at heart, his performance really worked in that
movie because lynch knew how to use him. same thing with
adaptation. he is kind of a doofus in the role of charlie
and donald, but it works and seems somehow accurate. when
jonze and kauffman work together it seems like they can take
the most ironic choice of actor and turn it into gold.

"You see, no one's going to help you Bubby, because there
isn't anybody out there to do it. No one. We're all just
complicated arrangements of atoms and subatomic particles -
we don't live. But our atoms do move about in such a way as
to give us identity and consciousness. We don't die; our
atoms just rearrange themselves. There is no God. There can
be no God; it's ridiculous to think in terms of a superior
being. An inferior being, maybe, because we, we who don't
even exist, we arrange our lives with more order and harmony
than God ever arranged the earth. We measure; we plot; we
create wonderful new things. We are the architects of our
own existence. What a lunatic concept to bow down before a
God who slaughters millions of innocent children, slowly and
agonizingly starves them to death, beats them, tortures
them, rejects them. What folly to even think that we should
not insult such a God, damn him, think him out of existence.
It is our duty to think God out of existence. It is our duty
to insult him. Fuck you, God! Strike me down if you dare,
you tyrant, you non-existent fraud! It is the duty of all
human beings to think God out of existence. Then we have a
future. Because then - and only then - do we take full
responsibility for who we are. And that's what you must do,
Bubby: think God out of existence; take responsibility for
who you are. "

I dunno. What hasn't been mentionned yet?

Brazil
Les Diaboliques (not that silly remake)
The King of New York
Elephant man
The Deerhunter
( I really love Spider but i'm not sure it's worthy of this
thread)

Could go on for ages (but i'll spare you) and i'm sure i'd
still miss a few of my all time faves

The films in this thread are generally very good (bar a few
turds)
Happiness is great, Gummo was fun. Ingmar Bergman....etc

It's OK but not the masterpiece people make it out to be.
Definitely a good movie though.
