Alright already! I'll see if I can get my little brother to
swipe a 64 from one of his friends.. I'm sure Majora's Mask
won't be too hard to track down after that.

Nintendo appoints new president at Retro:

So how are all you Europeos enjoying Metroid Prime?

"I'm sure Majora's Mask won't be too hard to track down
after that.
"

Here in holland you can (in most stores) still buy
leftover-N64 games for ridiculously low prices. (i bought
all the cool ones already ;-)). Both zelda games are still
widely available too. The expansion-pack was much harder to
find, beware of that. Nothing would be worse than having a
N64+majora's mask, but not being able to play it because you
haven't got the expension pack.

"So how are all you Europeos enjoying Metroid
Prime?
"

All the stores stocked way too little copies of it.
It's sold out everywhere i looked. It'll probably be coming
in sometime during the next week (maybe it already is?)...
but zelda is so close now. I think i'm going to wait and get
that one first :-) That way i can fully focus on that game,
and indulge in metroid after i beat the wind waker.

Metroid Prime is a great game, the only thing holding it
back from being excelent is its too easy (not counting the
later bosses) and going through areas you've already been
through 100 times before toward the end of the game to find
the artifacts gets tedious. I know there is a hard mode, but
thats only unlocked after you've completed "easy mode"

Looking forward to wind walker, just 3 weeks now :)

Vonderful! The only complaint I have of Metroid Prime is
that I thought the frame rate was too smooth. They should
have taken advantage of the extra horsepower by adding even
more detail to Tallon IV and it's inhabitants --- a minor
quip. Fantastic game in every rite, especially considering
the legacy it's carrying. Can't wait for the first morsels
of info on the sequel. Nintendo's releasing a new demo disc
May 25th, supposedly with a plethora of previews for their
upcoming games. My palms are sweating just thinking about
it..

didn't you find it too easy? there was only one part (apart

Anyone looking forward to Starcraft: ghost? A lot of people

oh okay... i guess i'll have to wait and see then :-p I'm
getting more curious all the time!

I'm now planning on winning this game ;-) Nintendo of
Europe have announced a competition where you can win one of
those platinum gamecube's, with the windwaker+bonus disc.
And a t-shirt signed by miyamoto. I'm really putting alot of
work in my entry... so i feel like i've practically won
already ;-)

"what's "Ocarina of Ages/Seasons," ?"

That's the Oracle of ages/seasons. They were two
zelda-games released at the same time for Game Boy Color. I
haven't played either one of them due to my not-owning a
Game Boy Color :-)

But i think they were created by Capcom and not by nintendo
themselves... so i fear they might not be as great as for
instance Link's Awakening.

"that's Oracle of Ages/Season"
Arrgh! Again you flaunt my imperfection.

"so i fear they might not be as great as for instance Link's
Awakening."
You're correct in assuming that neither of them were as good
as Link's Awakening. Though the graphics were basically the
same, the games themselves were missing a certain luster
present in Nintendo's. Plus, the fact that the two
complimented each other made each one feel like less of a
whole and more of a companion piece.

Dael : "yeah, that's right, four seasons (4 player)"
No, that's "Four Swords" - the multiplayer game included on
the GBA version of A Link to the Past.
Muaahahaha! Redemption!

Meanwhile, I've gone back to Ocarina of Time and the
dreadful water temple.

...Why? What compelled them to make this turquoise maze of
madness? Any advice, consolation, or new expletives to
shout would be great appreciated..

" the games themselves were missing a certain luster
present in Nintendo's.
"

That's what i had feared :-s
Plus the idea of riding around in a kangaroo seems a bit
silly to me.

Still i would like to play them though. When and if i buy
one of those things that let you play gameboy games on the
gamecube, i'll probably buy those 2 zelda-games.

Man i hate the water temple! I've played through it
twice (through the entire game twice)... but it seemed like
the 2nd time was even more difficult :-p
I remember the actual solution is actually shockingly
simple... always by accident i stumbled on the correct
route... and then suddenly you were in the room of the
temple-boss.

I am soooo glad miyamoto invented the blue clothes that let
Link breathe underwater though! If they would have made it
so that you had to come up for air every couple of minutes i
don't think i would still be sane today. I just hate
underwater-levels where you slowly run out of air. Hated
them in every game i have ever played!

Here we go :
"Miyamoto said that if he could, he would stick with
Cel-shading again, because it was easy to work with, and it
is fun to play. But, if he had an idea that would only work
with polygons, he would use polygons."

Sounds pretty positive to me.
As for the water temple, I'm in the middle of deciphering
one of the guides at www.gamefaqs.com. This should bring a
cold cloth to my feverish head. *wheeze
I'm going to buy one of those GBA>>Gamecube accessories too.
I think it's a great idea and they'll end up profiting
quite a bit -- A lot of people just can't justify forking
over $100 for a 3x3 inch SNES. $50 for a Gamecube
attachment that allows you to play GBA games on your
television screen sounds much more enticing. I wonder what
sort of multiplayer options it will allow?

"Miyamoto said that if he could, he would stick with
Cel-shading again
"

YES! :-D :-)
Now this is what i call good news! "if he could", haha!
Ofcourse he can! He's the big guy over at nintendo... he's
like a god in videogame-world ;-) I read that when he was in
london recently he got a bigger crowd than britney spears
(who appeared right after him). I bet (i hope)when he says:
"guys, i'd like to use cell-shading again." all the other
programmers just instantly agree :-p

"But, if he had an idea that would only work with
polygons, he would use polygons."
"

hmm... well i can't really think of anything that would work
with polygons but not with cell-shading ;-)

Very exciting news cabbog, thanks! :-D

"in the middle of deciphering one of the guides at
www.gamefaqs.com
"

Yeah with that level it's justified to cheat. I hope you
solved it yourself the first time though :-) There's just no
feeling like finally realising the solution after having
been stuck for a long time in a zelda-game!

"A lot of people just can't justify forking over $100 for
a 3x3 inch SNES
"

Exactly, and especially so if they (well...me) would only
use it indoors anyway :-p I swear if i had a GBA it would
never leave my room. I love the fact that it's compatible
with all my old gameboy games too :-) Finally i can play
them all on the big screen!

I don't know.....I think I'd rather see Zelda in full 3D
style (a la smash bros. melee) after Wind Waker. It would be
soooooo fucking rad!

?
Smash Bros. is only pseudo 3D - You can rotate the camera
angle when paused, but all the action takes place on a two
dimensional plane. Wind Waker, on the other hand, is
completely three dimensional..

I thought the screenshots of Link and Ganon from the
Spaceworld event looked awful and I'm glad they took the art
direction in Wind Waker the way they did. That said, I
don't really care what they do with the sequel as long as
Miyamoto is in charge - I have complete faith in his ability
as a visionary.

"rather see Zelda in full 3D style (a la smash bros.

nah... it would be fucking boring ;-)
Every "next gen" game looks like that! The hyper-realism...
i think it looks awful. All the new games start looking more
and more alike. I really miss any signs of imagination and
beauty and originality in alot of those games. Including the
original spaceworld-screenshots cabbog talks about. It looks
so... i dunno. Generic i guess.

A realistic zelda-game would probably still be fantastic,
but i highly doubt it would be as good as wind waker
:-) (i know for sure it wouldn't be as beautiful ;-))

ah, but the walls have ears my friend ;-) We are with 2339
members, and alot of them from europe. I'm afraid any
information regarding my competition-entry is highly
classified at this point :-p

But speaking about the competition, what do you (or indeed
anyone reading this) think about my english? Sadly this is a
european and not a dutch competition, and my idea requires
alot of text... which i have to do in english. I fear this
will be the weakest part of my entry... i could do so much
better if the jury would be able to understand dutch. I can
probably make myself understood, but subtle jokes and
details are very hard in a forreign language :-/

What I really want to see is some romance between our hero
and heroine. It's been in the cards for years now and it
would be great if something finally blossomed.. I'd just be
apprehensive of cheesy Japanese saxophone\keyboard solos
that have a tendency to diffuse even the most potent of
situations. Nintendo's pretty good about straying away from
those though.. They're more commonly found in Playstation
RPGs.

That article was a little pretentious, but i liked it all
the same. And i really agreed with it! Al video-game
programmers should be forced to read it. The situation is
becoming more and more like 'normal' art. Where huge numbers
of people simply judge paintings by how realistic they look
(so rembrandt is automatically better than pollock). And
when they see something that is abstract or in any other way
not realistic, they bring up the old "well my little 3-year
old cousin could have painted that!" aaaargh! I'm so glad
nintendo tried to stay away from all that (remember when
donkey kong country was released? And everyone felt sure
nintendo would use the same technique to render the next
mario world... and then they came out with yoshi's island
:-)).

"What I really want to see is some romance between our
hero and heroine
"

yes, i've often thought about that myself. It would
certainly draw you much deeper into the game and get you
motivated. With every zelda-game it's always the question
why Link sets out to rescue the princess. (well i
think in wind waker he's rescueing his sister.. but
nevermind :-p). How cool would it be if during the first
part of a zelda-game he would fall in love with someone, and
you see various scenes of them starting to like each other
more and more (i just know nintendo could pull that off!...
gameplay-wise they could keep link occupied with some
unimport side-quest). And then that girl gets
kidnapped by ganon. You'd really be able to feel link's pain
and understand why he goes through all the trouble of
rescueing her :-)

Cabbog, is the game too easy? I've been reading a few
reviews about the new Zelda game and almost all of the
reviews (even the good reviews) say its too easy. One person
even said a baby could play the whole game and not even lose
3 hearts...

if its true, don't you find this extremely dissapointing?
Shouldnt there be a challenge to playing a game?

i have a feeling i'm gonna be really dissapointed with this
game, Metroid Prime was too easy (excluding bosses) and
Zelda is really the game i bought a gamecube for.

the only another Gamecube game i'm looking forward to is
Christal Chronicles and i'll be lucky if it comes out before
christmas.

It's not *THAT* easy, though you're definately not going to
be relying on bottled goods as much as you have in previous
games. Yes, it is easier than Ocarina of Time though not in
terms of challenge. It's easier because it's more intuitive
and the controls handle better - There's no needless
frustration, No pointless chores, and absolutely NO water
temple-esque layouts! In fact the dungeon design is
absolutely fantastic.. My personal favorite is the
'Forbidden Woods', though they're all equally wonderful.
-But if you found Metroid Prime to be too easy for you I'd
say Wind Waker will probably let you down too. It doesn't
require brain curdling concentration or lightning fast
reflexes and there's no week long puzzles or instant
deaths.

What's your ideal game in terms of challenge?

Hmm that's an interesting opinion on the difficulty of wind
waker, I'm %75 though metriod prime and can understand why
people come up with the conclusion that it's too easy. I
think that once you discover each ememys weakness it becomes
a walk in the park, (but that's how I've allways remembered
metriod games to play), it's good to know that there is a
HARD setting available after the standard,

as for wind wakers "NO water
temple-esque layouts!" I think that's great, I can remember
pulling my hair out trying to get past that on the 64 and
can only thank shigsy for not having something similar in
windwaker.
A less frustrating zelda, I'm all for that
