van der vaart - a hot new talent chivu - basically the most important player, captain machlas - supposed to be the lethal striker mido - better than machlas, striker o'brien - the american midfielder, becoming more important every match
van der meyde - right winger, fast
the thing with the squad is that the important players are very young and inexperienced. also players like ibrahimovic from sweden are now on the transferlist after only 1 year...
it's going to be tough in europe

imagine, being born in madrid but supporting barça... its kind of hard after 9 champion leagues here in madrid... well barça will never be as good as real madrid...but we ve got:
1 champions league (3 times runners up) 4 european recups (cups champions cup) 3 uefa cups 16 spanish leagues 24 spanish cups 2 european supercups
many teams may have a better curriculum but this is good too.
real madrid:
9 champions league 2 uefa cups 2 intercontinental cups 28 spanish leagues 17 spanish cups
and more I dont remember as they are not my team

Juve want to buy Nesta or Cannnavaro or Rio Ferdinand, obviously only one between these three defensive players.
Nesta is probably the best defensive player in the world but he's very expensive.
Probably we'll sell Thuram :( so we'll need another great defensor.
In the last period Tudor didn't play as defensor but as midfield and he was very good too.

never mind, I'm tempted to forget it as well, now that a hugely un-talented and tedious German side, benefitting from a favourable draw and good fortune are into the final. once again. zzzz

I hope Germany get thrashed 5-1 again to prove (like England proved to them) that they can be beaten ... convincingly.
Korea's weaknesses were obvious all along, their luck ran out today. Germany have the BIGGEST players, the TALLEST players, the most ORGANISED players in the world. But the BEST players ? the most exciting ? most talented ?
OK, I just dislike German football. Don't argue with me. I'm bitter 'cos England beat them 5-1 and they are in the final AGAIN .. remeber 1990 and 1996 ? It HURTS English people to see them there again, strutting around and acting generally superior
I know its casual racism on my part and I'm not proud of it, but its the way I am. Maybe You don't all understand. Thats OK .I just won a bet Germany would reach the final, so I'm not too unhappy.

The suspension of German playmaker Michael Ballack for picking up his second yellow card of the World Cup's knockout stages means that a key player will be barred from the final for the fourth tournament in a row.
Central defender Laurent Blanc missed France's 3-0 win over Brazil in the 1998 final after being sent off against Croatia in the semi-final.
In 1994, Italian defender Alessandro Costacurta was suspended for a second yellow card picked up in the semi-final against Bulgaria. Italy lost on penalties in the final against Brazil after a 0-0 draw.
Four years earlier, Argentina had four players suspended for the final with West Germany, including forward Claudio Caniggia. Caniggia scored the equaliser in the 1-1 semi-final draw with Italy before getting a second yellow card.
West Germany won the final 1-0 and two Argentina players were sent off.

what do you think nacmat ?
I think there have been few great midfielders this year... none in fact.
think about since 1986-1998
Maradona, Baggio, Gascoigne, Matthaeus, Gullit, Hagi, Laudrup, Zidane....
none this year, not great performers IMO.

As the more renowned teams have slumped, Tostao ascribes the surprise success of several weaker teams partly to the greater time they had together to train. "The best players were playing until the last minute in club competitions," he explains. Meanwhile, the tournament "is becoming increasingly less important as the European championships take up more space," he reckons.
Like others, he also laments a lack of variety in footballing styles. "Football has been globalised. Everyone plays the same way: Argentina, Brazil, the Europeans, the Africans. There is not a great difference between teams, everyone has been brought down to the same level.
“The World Cup is very short," he adds. "The teams that have the best performance are not necessarily the best teams. If it had been a longer tournament, France and Argentina could have recovered … You have to be very careful drawing definitive conclusions from these short tournaments.”

brazil - turkey
brazil will have to fight very hard to beat the turkish... its not a coincidence that they are in semifinals... ok they were lucky that argentina and france were out...but this is the mirror of what is happening in europe, where they won the uefa cup in 2000 and they got to 1/4 finals of champions league in 2001 (I am talking about galatasaray)
their football is based on strenth at their stadiums (where referees allow them more than I would like) but each time they get more and more competitive.
the turkish team is made out of galatasaray and good players playing in good european teams, such as "bastur" from leverkusen, hakan sukur (though he is not very good now) dabala (I think he is in milano)
this will not be an easy match for brazil
