Wow, the threading and labeling are great ideas no other
webmail has. Yahoo must be shitting themselves.

labels and filters work great. it really does seem like a
good webmail program, dispite the crazy amout of hype.

i quit using my hotmail account because it was almost
completely unusable over dial-up. but, i could totally see
myself using gmail.

if fact answers.google.com is probably the only large google
project that i haven't used a lot.

what about orkut? it sucks.

Points: 17620 Status: Lurker | Followup to sneakattack: #01246899

oh yeah. i forgot about that turdsaq.

i'm a member of orkut, but i just don't get it. is it any
worse than friendster?

offline sneakattack on 2004-06-18 22:52 [#01246921]
Points: 6049 Status: Lurker | Followup to epohs: #01246916

I've never used friendster, but I saw it for about 1/2 a
second while passing by someone at a terminal. It's funny
how similar it was to orkut.

In all honesty, I may jest about orkut, but I won't bash it
seriously. Google has lots and lots of smart people
employed. If they wanted orkut to be great, they'd do so.
I'm not saying they put no energy into it, but honestly I
think that up until now it's usage has been mostly
experimentation. I don't expect this to change for a while

yeah, i'm not really familiar with any of those relationship
based online communities, so i don't really have anything to
compare it to. it may be really cool if i'd spend some time
messing around, actually expanding my relationships.

and, orkut is still in beta, so i guess it'll keep evolving
for a while.

the only thing missing is that in GMail you cannot select
multiple contacts to send a message to yet.

google is trying hard to be progressive.

They have designed the first unique mail interface since
basically the start of email.

that's rather impressive. Everyone's being a fucking idiot.

wow, they really love you. 31 now? (or did I miss a few?)
What is it dependent on? If it was just generic activity,
people could write scripts to send millions of bogus emails
and reply to them all with emtpy text.

Does it always land at the same time of day? Did it start
after you'd been there for a certain period of time? is the
frequency increasing?

offline epohs from )C: on 2004-06-19 17:17 [#01247635]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

the only thing i can figure out as to why i'm getting so
many invites to give out is that the guy who invited me
must've been either tier 1, or tier 2.

i think this was the 37th invite i've given out.

damn, if i had gotten my invite a month earlier, i could've
been a milmirlionaire by now.

Yes, I bet they figure that into their metric. It's a
shitload. Thanks again for the generosity!

Initially they made it sound like each person received a
fixed number of invites and that same person didn't get any
after that. Obviously that was just in an early phase (and
more mystique..)
