gMail invites!

i think the theory on the different tiers or whatever... is
correct.

ive had gmail for almost 3 days now, and I still dont have
any invites to give :-s

I think so too, but I think 3 days is the wrong way to look
at it; epohs stated they seem to come around 7pm our time
(me nyc you boston), and unless my memory is failing (and
I'm too lazy to check), both of our accounts have only seen
that time once (got them friday night).

The only explanation is that they are temporarily burgeoning
enrollment to test final server rollout (for public
offering).. so that further complicates predictions on the
pattern.

I wish I could figure out anything; I'm waiting for these as
well--I want to hook up my dad and a few people on here.

The thought they've put into it is intimidatingly
impressive[*]. I expected the conversations thing would be
gimmicky, but it's nice. And, scarily, with the convenient
keybindings, it's faster to use then the email client
running on my actualy machine.

[*] among other things, it's the first email interface which
isn't a small improvement of the classic message index
(sortable) + message view + folders, which is basically what
people had when email started 40 years ago. Of course
there's influence from IM, but still a pretty impressive
departure.

i logged in just before i left home this morning, and it
worked fine.

i've heard of a few people getting this error though. try
clearing your cookies and whatnot, and trying again.

if you still can't log in, i could send you another invite
and see if you could log in under a different name. but, i
couldn't to that until i get off work later this evening.

As it's javascript things generally don't open in a
different window. HAIL!

where did you get that number?

offline virginpusher from County Clare on 2004-06-21 11:44 [#01249870]
Points: 27325 Status: Lurker

no.

It was the first believable number that came to my mind!

:D

But it has to be alot. Didnt all google employees get 100
invites? so lets say for simple purposes 100 employees get
100 invites.

100x100=x

x is the people that are second tier. Now think about what
teir you are and how many invites you have sent out. There
are alot of people in your position!

It has to be quite many!

a google invite leaves my inbox traveling at the speed of
tcp/ip divided by any lost packets, times the number of
hops. a second user clicks send/recieve 12 hops away times
the sucktitude of other web based email programs. how many
licks does it take to get to the chewie chocolatey center of
a tootsie pop?

/. reports:

Emails and invitations sent to Hotmail from Gmail
accounts do not bounce, but nor do they arrive in the
recipient's Inbox - they vanish mysteriously into the
aether. Joel Johnson writes in his Gizmodo weblog that
invitations he sent to a Hotmail address bounced (this even
received coverage from ZDNet). Search Engine Roundtable
writes that several ISPs are blocking Gmail. It's already
well-documented that Yahoo moves Gmail invites into the
Bulk Mail folder. I've personally confirmed the Hotmail and
Yahoo blocking

yeah, but i'm not sure that's true.

i've sent invites to several hotmail accounts, and i'm
pretty sure they all arrived.

although, yahoo does seem to be filtering them as spam.

I was on hotmail, mine arrived no problem. So where do these
invites appear then... as an email in the inbox? or as a
link in the gmail window? I want to spread some accounts

a bright red link saying "Invite a friend to join gmail"
will appear right beside 'create a filter'.

you'll know when you can invite people.
