Following my last post I read the rest of the thread...

Don't turn this into a petty slagging match guys. That goes
for all of you.

I don't need to show u any respect.. considering the fact
that you demanded all of our respect/attention with your
rediculous website

Good point- people compared a couple of my tracks to
autechre. At that point I hadn't heard any autechre so I was
a bit annoyed that people thought I was copying them (even
though no one said that). I inentionally changed my style a
bit to avoid being seen as an imitator of them.

Also- people saying you're like Ae? A lot of music makers
here would see that as a compliment.

The site is well designed, regardless of the content. Props
to Joyrex.

Now this is getting silly. I wish Mickey Mouse would step in
and moo or quack or something.

Why can't you guys be more Happy Baby Animal Friends about
each other's work? I notice most professional musicians
(except rappers) don't get a hair up their ass and go all
Pitchfork on each other.

zeus is only young - he will develop. I havent heard any
mp3s linked from this board or others that arent highly
influenced by a small group of warp/idm artists. given 4 or
5 years, zeus's music could be alright

what a lot of time+effort people seem to spend making
websites, spamming tracks, dissing other peoples
tracks/website, having deep and meaningless philosophical
discussions about the nature of art etc. when they could be
actually making music or summat useful instead.

oh and there is no such thing as useful critiscism.

theo, i never said anyone HAD to go to the site.

I didnt force anyone. You saw the topic name, if you didnt
care, you shouldnt have gone.

The fact is, I posted it, cause I got a bunch of friends
here, who for the past 2 months have been asking me when the
site will be up.

So I let them know.

And all this talk about autechre. Fuck man, did you even
listen to the other tracks? They are completely different,
and NON autechre. And these are the tracks I love the most.

So what if red flower sounds like ae. (and I honestly dont
think it does... sure its disjointed, but autechre isnt the
only pepple to make disjointed music... their sound is more
granular, where as mine was sample based).

The point is, you got all righteous for no fucking reason.
and you acted like a dick.

Totally uncalled for.

but come on dude. seriously, whats the point of destructive
criticism?

You have no tact.

You could have said everything you wanted to say in a polite
manner.

There was no reason to be such a bitch.

Five cats are better then one dog in my opinion. I like
coffee so strong you need to drink it before it turns into a
solid. I have no trouble with Zeus and I only gave Red
Flower a listen. I instantly thought AE, Then I instantly
thought no it's a development in the style of AE, then I
thought 'Instant Coffee'

Oh and I also thought 'So how the fuck did he do that?
Bastard, I wish I could.'

Providing and adapting is good. I will listen to more of
your music when I'm not unhappy Zeus.

Ok, the bio, yeah. And thats been discussed. And its been

Other wise, I fail to see hows its pretentious.

I have to agree, now the bio is gone there's nothing really
pretentious about it. You could argue that the song titles
are a little, but that is largely subjective and I think
most electronic musicians make titles that could be deemed
pretentious. I know I do.

I think Theo thinks that particular one was too long
(correct me if I'm wrong theo- I'm sure you will ;) )
It does remind me a bit of that album by some american
Alanis Morrisette type singer whose album title is about 57
words long (something to do with chess).

To expect people to be bothered to remember the titles/write
them down to discuss the music is where you could consture
them to be pretentious.

I always refer to "Mt Saint Michel Mix + St Michaels Mount"
as "St. Michaels Mt." or something similair- people always
know what you're on about if they're familiar with the
track. Some of Boards of Canada's tracks are the same. The
difference is that with known artists people tend to be
interested enough to be bothered to remember full titles.

it's not just that they were long.. they're just so over the
top and affected

again, I'm trying to steer your creativity in your OWN
direction.. when I was getting started I used to sort of
follow the formulae of certain producers and pastiches of
certain tracks I admired.. from this , and once I got
comfortable making tracks , my own touch on the music became
more and more noticalbe

why is everyone getting all blown out of shape? If theo
doesn't like the music then that's fine.

If you link your work on a MB you should expect some
"destructive" critisim because not everyone's opinions fit
together jigsaw puzzle style.

That's what makes the world great, disagreements and
contrasting opinions. It makes individuals out of people.
Getting all hurt and bothered by ones opinions isn't worth
it. Just say 'thanks' and keep doing what you like to do...
making music.
