And I never did like cassandra.... That Rodders, he could
have found something better, he had the looks and the
charm... But no, he got stuck with that little spoilt, upper
middle class, petite-bourgoise bitch...

What does that mean? Minging? Are you just making words up
so you confuse me and have me feeling inferior?

Its a UK slang word meaning gross, horrible, ugly,
disgusting etc. In this instance its a tad misogynistic but
fuck it.

misogynistic? Saying that someone is an ugly bitch is just
an opinion, surely? You don't hate someone for being ugly do
you?

It is in the sense that only women can be minging. All men
are beautiful.

Nah, in the sense that women are referred to as either
minging or fit. to many men women are to be judged on their
physical appearance and not on their personality or
contribution. So its not misogynistic in itself, but in the
current cultural climate it is.

Steve equating "Computers" with capitalism is truly
hilareous..The internet even in its sliced, diced,
ecommerced, venture capitalised form..is the closest thing
to an arnarchic state that this world has to offer....the
collective subconsious so to speak or the village meeting
place..

the dotcomm collapses just prove that most of the people
using the interent arent using it for "capitalistc"persuits
as the executives in the board rooms envisaged..sure there's
people like Meho who's every pronographic need is being met
by the net(just kidding, sorry,okay Meho..just kidding..you
are coolest!!)..or free music which all of us indulge in..

but there's a good portion of the users..who are using it to
plainly and simply communicate..hear what others have to
say..compare notes, exchange ideas all things that are
detrimental to a capitalistic system..where unless you are a
prone consumer..open and willingly submitting to their
prompts and prods and suggestions (ads) leading to
consumption of their products..you are non desireable...well
down here you can simply scroll past the banner..and after a
while you can just blank them out or make a consumer decison
and dwnload a freeware that skips all the banners and
ads...and still have a continous experience unlike TV where
you have to resort to channel surfing to avoid ads...

a most basic example is the the most expensive product short
of War machines that the populus comes in contact with...The
Hollywood blockbuster..no amount of test audience directed
tweaking and tuning..is going to shut up a dissatisfied
punter getting on a message board very much like this one
and say that the movie he just spent his hard earned cash on
blew razor chunks...and the bad word about a bad product
spreading is exactly what capitalism wants to avoid......

No offense taken, mate. The bad thing with the internet is
that it drowns us in information we don't need. It's just
there so we take it. The easiness with which we can get the
information makes it all the more insignificant to us...
Hmm, I'm rambling here and am too lazy to explain better.
Let's do some more women-bashing instead.

BTW, that porn thing that you mention is a good example: the
fact that it's mere clicks away from me is what makes me go
for it. I am lucky I don't have a credit card because I
don't know if I could be disciplined enough not to spend
money for that crap...

So true..at least this is not the old days about 12 years
ago when I was accessing USENET on the campus mainframe..my
room didnt have room to live because It was covered in
stacks and stacks of printouts of previously inaccessible
information I just had to have...and honestly I read most of
it..hence my current deranged state %-p

What you are talking about porn is me on mp3.com making
inroads into amazing music being created in bedrooms that
will never ever get released due to hundreds of financial
considerations..

Which is only OK, but I find that more of it is accessible,
more I start to question it's significance to my life. Which
is probably a good thing actually...

What I don't get from Steve is this:

"I prefer blind patriotism and loyalty"
"I don't care if we're the most evil group of people ever to
exist, I live here and i'm going to back it up"

This suggests active support

"I'm know i'm a pawn, i'm a sheep"
...and this suggests total passive attitude

Strange...

Steve said: "I'm know i'm a pawn,
i'm a sheep, i'm a whatever you want to call it. I know this

and i'm fine with it. I'll let people like you continue your

futile efforts trying to change the world to suit you. The
main difference between us is I know i'm a sheep, you
don't."

Now the thing is: if it's people like steve accepting the
status quo because they are content with their lives and
can't be bothered with crimes done in their name worldwide
(thus supporting the system passively), isn't it only
natural that there are other people who think that hitting a
building full of steves with an airplane is a legitimate
tactique in a battle for survival.

what kind of shit are we talking about anyway? I mean,
saying that americans in general suck ass is one thing. But
condemning the obviously violent, imperialistic foreign
policies is another. I see a clear difference between the
two. Coming from someone who spent 10 years in a country run
by Milosevic (often compared with Hitler etc.) I think I
know what I'm talking about.

Justifies what, the WTC 9/11 thang? Well of course not, but
don't be naive enough to think we're not going to criticise
US foreign policy. The events of 9/11 were a minor incident
compared to the untold suffering of those around the world
who have been bombed by the US.

And for the one millionth time, we are talking about the US
govt & multinationals, and NOT its citizens such as
yourself.

Yeah, I read the first 6 posts. But do you seriously think
that what the US Gov. is doing is worse than Killing
thousands of people in a few minutes because you belive that
they are infidels. If you're going to talk about the actions
the US has taken, don't forget to talk about the positive
things too.

I've been reading these posts with interest. Jonesy and
Meho know a hell of a lot on this subject, so it's quite
educating.

I checked out that Pilger link - I saw his documentary on
Iraq. He really is quite fantastic. I think I'm going to
try to read more of his stuff.

Frankly though, this whole situation that we find ourselves
in at the moment terrifies me. I can envisage WWIII or
nuclear armageddon. And it has all been precipitated by the
greed of Western nations, in particular the US and to a
lesser extent the UK.

But what CAN we do about it? I feel helpless.

Of COURSE what the US is doing is FAR worse! They kill
fucking LOADS more people, produce massive amounts of

act like bullies, etc.

They have quite obviously committed much greater crimes than

New Zealand people have been proactive in creating a Nuclear
Free country..despite all the pressure US, France and even
Australia has been exerting on it..we just recently dumped
our Air Strike force in favour of planes that would be more
suitable for rescue operations....

Consensus can work..complacency is what keeps the regimes

further and further down a slipery slope which can only
produce the end result of a paraniod nationalistc fascist

Actually they do:

March 2002
When U.S. warplanes strafed [with AC-130 gunships] the
farming village of Chowkar-Karez, 25 miles north of Kandahar
on October 22-23rd,killing at least 93 civilians, a Pentagon
official said, "the people there are dead because we wanted
them dead." The reason? They sympathized with the Taliban1.
When asked about the Chowkar incident, Rumsfeld replied, "I
cannot deal with that particular village."
