good not good blabla
go fucking release the cd youbastards!

i understand the mp3 release to minimize the pirate effect
of people massively downloading and they not making cash,
but thats not very nice for those people who buy original
albums and dont use mp3s... 1month and a half of delay...
thats fuking insulting

I chose FLAC over either CD or MP3. The actual discs I buy
just end up rotting on the shelves. MP3s, on the other hand,
are often bad quality.

But a delay like that is pretty annoying, I can see that!

star time 2, glass road, the coathanger, planet gear.. i
can't see why people dislike this album so much.

To me, the best track on there is "Potential Govaner", but
it's only a 2 minute track... I was hoping the whole album
would have that kind of sound. I like a few other tracks,
but as whole, I'm not really into it.

I still don't get "A Real Woman"... "Star Time 2" is pretty
good, but sounds a lot like "Hello Meow". "Coathanger" is
ok, although the vocoder ruins the track a bit for me.

I'm putting the album aside for a couple of weeks. Maybe
after a pause, it'll click when I put it on again.

what a fucking toss. seriously, is tom even trying anymore

pissed and call it an album?

yeah listen to the bangface set if you haven't already, they
go down really well

and don't forget he made it in a short time, like 6 months
or something, now if you don't like it fine, but take that
into consideration

i like it even tho it's not his best output imo

I hope Jenkinson goes further in this direction on future
albums. The whole IDM thing is not to dissimilar to the
industrial scene - dead. It is now set on "repeat" - and
Autechre is a shining example of that.

Electronic music needs to integrate itself into the organic
to create fresh angles, which it has been already for quite
some time, but Just A Souvenir pushes the boundaries
further.

The bass for example is heavily chopped and spliced by
computer to put a new context on the instrument, which few
people seem to have noticed - they're too hung up on whether
it's "electronic enough" and all that close-minded guff.

wrong. sick of the bass, it feels like a gimmick now and the
sound bores me. it also has a vibe that just stinks of twats
and tossers. also it's makes little/no impression on me. i'm
not that into him anyway.

This thread holds some pretty idiotic and senseless posts.

RazorbladeUK and headfucker (add weird and quirky spelling)
come to mind. Razor has an excuse though, tom was mean and
didn't really notice him. Aww.

If you don't like it, fine! No need to be an arse about it
though! I'm sure it's possible to hate this album without
being all arsy about it.

I guess some people don't like change. They like the
nostalgia of listening to the same old thing over and over,
whereas others get bored.

Squarepusher gets bored too, hence the new album. Whereas
bands like Autechre are so wrapped up in their status they
won't take a risk. They're scared stiff. They might as well
give up, as they have nothing left to offer anymore, whereas
at least Squarepusher has vitality - at least he's still
interested.

I don't understand why people are bad-mouthing this album.
It's Squarepusher, which, though this leaves me open to
criticism, means that it's going to be very good in some
way. Also, at least Jenkinson releases stuff! We haven't
heard from Mr. James for a good 7 years now (discounting
'the Tuss'), so I think we should all be grateful for this
SP offering.

In addition, I know this is an electronic music site, but I
would associate generally interesting and somewhat
avant-garde music with that, therefore I think people are
overreacting and being silly about this- whether you like it
or not, Squarepusher is still producing interesting music an
he is an ecellent artist. I think these points should be
acknowledged and they are not.

discounting tuss, all analords, 26 mixes, some rereleases
(well, you mentioned "stuff", NOT "new stuff").
i don't go for this "you should be grateful" argument. i
don't like his new album. end of story. likewise campfire
headphase. even though it has been cazillion years since
they released their previous. it's still crap.
i'm looking more forward to new releases by mr.67ix and
whatnot.

You're right- I said stuff, not new stuff, but I would have
thought it would be fairly obvious I what I meant. That's
just being a little pedantic.

I understand what you mean- I have a pretty unusual outlook
on music I guess. I value uniqueness and originality, as
well as the ability to move on and work in different genres
more than other things, such as consistency and exploration
of one genre and looking out for the fans who buy records,
meaning artists can make a living doing what they do. I
think others see things in a more logical way than I do.

However, this said, I ask you to put yourself in Mr.
Jenkinson's shoes. Once you have been making electronic
music, pushing the boundaries of so many different
sub-genres with Electronica (Acid, Jungle, Dub, D&B, Jazz
e.t.c) for so many years shouldn't you be allowed to
experiment? Not think about fans for a while and let your
hair down- do what you damn like, aince, after all you are
an intellectual and an artist- it is in your very nature to
create and do something drastically new every time you do
so.

In the end, Thom Jenkinson is an artist- not a music
factory- not Simon Cowell, trying to please as many people
as possible, right across the board.

I know you will still say that it is "shit", but still- I
ask you in return to just have something of an open mind
about this and give it a few more listens. I will in turn
check out mr.67ix.

When I go over all that i have written here I don't know why
I have bothered- you haven't even expressed a justified
opinion- "it's crap" doesn't mean anything- I completely
agree with Barcode- no one likes it because they are too
closed minded.

By the way, thanks for taking the time to read my massive
rant. =)
