Two of his best ever b-sides, I don't know if the black vinyl is better than the clear vinyl in terms of sound quality, the same way with coloured vinyl... because I'm just ignorant in these matters. |

In my experience, clear vinyl sounds inferior to black vinyl. This could be due to many factors though; generally ltd. edition (fewer copies can mean the presses haven't "warmed up"), people saving money on mastering/vinyl weight to offset the cost of the vinyl, "collectability" means people are more forgiving of poor sound quality, they usually tend to be quite thin/light (presumably so they look more transparent) and hence sound quality suffers a bit. Odd really, as you think it would be more likely to be virgin vinyl (although I think it's increasingly less common to use recycled vinyl- less of it about). I don't know if there's an actual technical reason why it can't sound as good as black vinyl. |
