first merck, now component.. :(

-- --
www.componentrecords.com

december 15, 2005:
after six years we've decided to close down component.
this has been a difficult decision and we've given a lot
of thought to it, but for a number of reasons we feel this
is the correct thing to do.

Shit they are probably going to do a new label but in the
mean time the shop will remain open and hopefully, thanks to
this new 'we're closing' marketing drive, will improve sales
of shit they can't shift any other way.

I've heard Mochipet. It was so so.

I've heard proem, gridlock and assuming it is the same
panacea who did Low Profile Darkness (which was pretty
good), panacea.

some of you might have missed
these fatastic releases on component:

JVOX "address unknown"
BITCRUSH "enarc"
EXILLON "prequiem"

..definitely the top-3 of the label.

I'll check them out and buy if they are good.

How the fuck did CODEC manage to run a label while juggling
his mass media commitments? No wonder he is closing the
label he is probbly worn out after his shift in McDonalds.

I fail to see how this is demonstrating schadenfreude given
that there seems to be no misfortune involved in the
decision to wind up this labels operations.

I hope somebody is keeping a record of all this behind the
scenes action, and then in years to come there'll be a film
like "24 hour Party People" but edited really wildly.

I won't rest until EVERY SINGLE small IDM label closes, that
will be my role in this great drama.

I aim to start one that will have 2 releases and then close
because of people sharing hte music on Soulseek.

I will claim to start the label for the love of music and to
receive monetary gain elsewhere.

Would you care for a limited Grinning Ape release on this
label?

Yes, I'm keen. After months of being at the cutting edge of
the electronic vanguard, one whiff of the paypal and I'll
bend over doing drillcore and cut up breaks with pads like
the best of them.

I'm actually working on a track at the moment called "mostly
pads and cut up breaks". Perhaps we could do a various
artists tribute compilation to small IDM labels called,
"Come in IDM; Your time is up!", or, "Game Over,
Glitchcore"?

mainly due to the fact that no music has come out to his

he probably should be in an archive somewhere

he's old, jaded, and can't buy a thrill that isn't derived
from nostalgia. for this reason, he believes, the world
around him must suffer.

Oh yes, just fucking pile it on, why don't you, join in
together. It's not me that's closing down after six years
lack of interest. I'll keep going, you fuckers. The world
around me must suffer, it must, for its own good. I'm right,
I'm always right, and in your heart of hearts, you know this
to be true.

Ceri JC: I support you fully. The only way to end this genre
is to compile THE SINGLE MOST CONTRIVED COLLECTION OF IDM
TRACKS on one MASSIVE net release.

Now that's what I call IDM vol. 1

i don't understand what the point even is of starting a
record label and releasing the same handful of artists that
each have their own limited edition CDR with hand painted
covers or little minidiscs or whatever the fuck. obviously
proem would be on this label, he seems to be the Big Name in
this scene.

actually, d_b, it's taken you far less than six years to
close up shop. but i imagine you'll find a way to pat
yourself on the back for doing it.

"Just as you're special I will do but it will
be THE LAST musical folly (not to be confused with the
musical "Follies") that I ever do. The Ape has failed,
history was not changed, electronic music didn't die, no
one
was happy and everyone was sad."

Grinning Ape went into voluntary liquidation, it was
inoperable. It failed, I admit that, but it only took me a
few months to realise, not six years. But really it wasn't
ME that failed, it was the AUDIENCE that failed ME. In 6
years time people will catch up with The Ape, and I'll open
up shop again.

I dont understand why this is sad. Is there a lack of being
realistic or something. For a label to be successful you
need some large talent. These artists arent exactly the
caliber of artist that gets people talking. The difference
is in quality.

I admire their dedication to the dream of running a label or
putting out a vinyl. They are putting forth time and effort
into this. Good for them!

That said.... are we surprised that this is happening? This
is a super small genre of music that (lets face it) is
supported by mostly people that download the music in a
collectors frenzy. Which is opposed to the actual paying
customer... which seems to be quite a small percentage.

i think the cynics overreact to the : ( that comes with a
small label folding. fact is, if you know the label at all
and care about the music, then when that label folds you'll
say, "too bad, i really liked that label."

it's like when a good friend moves away, you know it's not
the end of the world, but there's still a little : (.

the "sadness" is just a measure of affection.
