i hope they don't catch on too much so that dvds become
obsolete.

Well... most people don't own HDTVs, so don't expect them to
catch on too quickly.

I'll be buying a PS3 so I guess I hope Blu Ray wins (and I
hope the internal BR player in the PS3 is of a nice
quality). Doesn't really matter to me though, either sounds
swell. Good riddance to DVDs.

I think they're fucking pointless.

Clearly the inferior of the two will win out. BETAMAX!

The PS3 is going to be a big weapon for Sony in the Blu
Ray/HD-DVD ''war'', so it'll play Blu Ray thingers, is what
I mean. I dunno how expensive a stand-alone player will be
so I might have to stick with the PS3 for Blu Ray viewing.
Or not.

BR = BluRay.. DUH!, sorry LOL

Yeah, that will be a big factor, I heard it will also play
SACDs.

well, the ps2 is good enough dvd player (for me anyway). so
youd presume the ps3 will be good for bluray ey.
looking forward to some fat ps3 games with that fat amount
of space on those fat discs : )

which one does microsoft prefer? which one has the most
anti-copying protection?

by default i prefer the other one

offline staz on 2005-12-20 08:35 [#01803822]

blu-ray will probably have harsher copy protection.

i'm not sure yet, blu-ray will theoretically be able to take
like 800gb of data or something eventually, but the prices
will be pretty insane.

i think hd-dvds will be more reasonably priced, even though
they don't take as much shit. like 35 gb or something?

Microsoft prefers HD-DVD

and I would guess that BluRay will have a tougher copy
protection, that damn Sony...

Isn't it funny how they make DVD burners and DVD-R media?
Yet they are the ones who are on top of the copy protection?

800gb ? LOL I don't think so, its more like 50-100 gb.

While HD-DVDs are around 15gb from what I've heard.

Say goodbye "2 DISC SPECIAL EDITION"

They will have to come up with a new way of attractings
sheep's attention.

at this point its leaning toward blue-ray. PS3 has it so
Paramount went with it to. the other major studios are split
on it. i have no idea if either is better but Blue Ray is
cheaper to make.

50-100?
i thought it was 25-50 (50 being dual layered or
something)..

They claim that it holds 25 per layer, and they can have 4
layers. I guess the HD-DVDs hold 15 per layer, and go up to
3 layers.

offline pigster from melbs on 2005-12-20 22:49 [#01804261]

i don't give a fuck about what you've "heard", they've had
200gb prototypes going for a good fucking while and they're
already expanding the sizes.

offline staz on 2005-12-21 01:15 [#01804276]
Points: 9844 Status: Regular

also, HD-DVDs are 15 gb PER LAYER, and as far as i know,
Toshiba are already developing a 3 layer HD-DVD.

some advice: both these formats will not be around for long,
one will die out after about a year. so wait a year before
investing or you're making a big gamble. YOU HAVE BEEN
WARNED.

blue ray cos i'm getting a PS3 to hook up with my HD tv, i'm
thinking the PS3 will make a massive difference with people
buying it to use as a media center.

I've got loads of DVD's though, luckily they won't be
obsolete as both formats will be able to play them.

I couldn't give a shite.

Not interested in blu-ray hd-dvd hdtv or and of that crap.

Certainly not interested in a PS3 either. I don't want nor
need a "media centre." Bollocks to all that.

Of course if I could afford any of it, that would be a
different matter. I'd NEED them then!

you'd need an awful lot of xvid movies to fill a spindle of
100 of those :)

HD is nice too but I think not really crucial for people
using the PAL system, it's already quite a high
resolution(720x576).
