people used to be open for good music, what changed in the past 20 years? who's responsible for it? is it because of the big labels? why do they promote 'boring' music so much instead of promoting something good (well, at least not stupid)? makes me want to cry this shit we have nowdays..

well, for example punk and new wave were pretty massive in 80's and it was hardly boring stupid shit as the stuff that's on top of charts nowdays..even pop was much better in those days..it seems like people just don't care about what they listen to nowdays..

record companies follow trends. back then that was the fad, so they got in on it and did their best to make as much money out of it while destroying the genre.. (i always thought it was pretty "boring stupid shit" but that's just my opinion. at least it had conviction.)

no particular bands come to mind. I have a friend that's into punk and he plays different punk things when we're at his place, and it all sucks. I don't know what they're called, though.

What you are talking about wasn't THAT massive. The 80's will always be remembered for shitty music and shitty hairstyle. I don't think there has been much change when it comes to people's interest in music. Mainstream music captures the masses, and some of us listen to more alternative stuff. The "everything used to be better in the old days"-attitude, is really for oldies

Indeed. So i think this is a reason on a musical scale why you have to respect labels like warp and such. even though they have started to have success, i think they managed to stay true to themselves.
It's a breath of fresh air.

that's just how you see it because.. well, you're biased due to actually liking the music that was pushed through people's ears back then. the industry's the same; it's been about money since the first large record company emerged. I think maybe it is you who should see other documentaries than the ones you've been watching.. "behind the scenes" documentaries, or at least not ones that angle towards glorifying the 80s.

Have you ever heard of pulp?
Warp released some of their stuff. Maximo park are not as good, but they are similar in what they are trying to do. Didn't the creator of warp said they were always looking for a band like this? Makes you wonder why they let pulp go.
Oh well.

right, but bands from the 80's im refering to here weren't part of that.
as for warp, they got under one of the four major record companies now didn't they? we can expect more maximo park and crap like that..

im talking about rock bands from mid 7o's to mid 80's.. ofcourse they all wanted to make money, or at least to get money out of it but it wasn't money that they got into music for! which isn't the case nowdays..
