Here is Geraldo on location at the convention
center in New Orleans screaming and begging someone to do
something while Fox's unflappable anchor Sean Hannity
attempts to spin things.

I don't know what to say.

basically because this is such a huge fuck-up and it's right
under their own noses even Fox can't spin it.

it's mindblowing.

That's a really interesting news report. Thanks for sharing
it. I like the dude in the studio trying to make it sound
like things are happening when the video footage and
reporters in the field are saying otherwise.

How can this happen?

I too don't know what to say.

don't kid yourself - it wouldn't surprise me one bit that if
the constitution was amended and Bush could run for a third
term, he'd get in.

Point taken.

Still watching this video and it's actually upsetting. It's
not often I can say that about these things but in this case
it is. The actual hurricane was nothing compared to what's
happening now.

god that CNN clip with senator Landrieu is awful.

she basically starts off with thanking just about every
politician she knows or would like to know.

best bit is when she says she is angry.

I can't add anything of any worth to the impact of those
videos. Just Holy fuck. I was wondering why people were
still in that stadium, now I know, they won't let them out.
I really don't want to see how officials slime their way out

That would be Sean Hannity. He is a fanatical republican
conservative who is completely blind to anything that would
negatively affect Bush. He's a loud mouth opinionated twat
who beleives he is right about everything. Alan Hannity is
much better but a lot quieter.

I wasn't really surprised at Geraldo, he often displays a
human side and I have watched his shows from when he was
with CNN through to his Fox News days, I am surprised at
Shep though, for his to lose his composure so much means the
situation must be horrendous and that alone will drive it
home to a lot more people.

Hopefully the US people will get behind the negative media
to an extent where they have to force accountability on the
politicians...without the mass majority of people demanding
answers it will just fizzle ut and Bush will again be off
the hook.

Also:

"The good news is -- and it's hard for some to see it now --
that out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf
Coast, like it was before. Out of the rubbles of Trent
Lott's house -- he's lost his entire house -- there's going

People are getting out, I think it was bus only or something
and it took a while to get the supply lines set up.

The thing is, there was the Superdome and the Convention
Center. Things were started with the Superdome. But FEMA
was so unorganized, Michael Brown, the head of FEMA claimed
they didn't even know about the Convention Center
"officially" until Thursday.

Ted Koppel asks "Don't you guys watch the news?"

Some kind urban settlement will remain, but New Orleans'
downtown of hotel towers and megastructures may be the first
comprehensive ruin of the Modernist city. Much of the stuff
just outside New Orleans, and along the Gulf Coast, was
largely post-war suburban fabric -- collector boulevards
with their complements of fry pits, malls, muffler shops and
subdivisions. We'd hope that the states of Alabama,
Mississippi, and Louisiana will not undertake to rebuild
them they way they were. The era of easy motoring is over
now, and to rebuild suburban sprawl would be a double
tragedy.

I think this little fiasco is showing everyone what a
classic sociopath Bush is. He has no compassion or concern
for anyone who isn't one of his cronies.

He doesn't even have or understand enough of human nature to
take advantage of the killer photo opportunity it'd be for
him to show up at, for example, the convention center
personally handing out food and water.

The most disturbing thing is when he arranges his features
into the "c'mon and cheer up, people" mask. Again, he
doesn't have enough humanity or awareness to at least feign
serious/sad/concern.

>> He has no compassion or concern

he doesn't much care for the military either. have you seen
the way he speaks to them.... like they are a bunch of his
college buddies he just got drunk with. and he wastes their
lives with his oil war. tossed them in the desert to die and
rot.

here's a quote from Greg Henderson, a pathologist still
working in New Orleans, trying to help people there:

"The city has no clean water, no sewage system, no
electricity, and no real communications.

Bodies are still being recovered, found floating in the
floods.

We are worried about a cholera epidemic. Even the police are
without effective communications.

A group of armed police are here at the hotel trying to
exert some local law enforcement.

This is tough because looting is rampant. Most of it is not
malicious looting.

These are poor and desperate people with no housing, no
medical care, no food and no water trying to take care of
themselves and their families.

Unfortunately, some people are armed and dangerous. We hear
gunshots frequently.

Most of Canal Street is occupied by armed looters who have a
low threshold for discharging their weapons.

We are still waiting for a significant National Guard
presence.

The health care situation here has dramatically worsened
overnight. Many people in the hotel are elderly or small
children.

Many others have unusual diseases.

We have set up a makeshift hospital in the French Quarter
Bar in the hotel.

There is a team of about seven doctors and pharmacists. We
anticipate that this will be the major medical facility in
the central business district and French Quarter.

Infection and perhaps even cholera are anticipated major
problems

Our biggest adventure today was raiding the Walgreens on
Canal Street under police escort.

The pharmacy was dark and full of water. We basically
scooped entire drug sets into garbage bags and removed them.

We are anticipating dealing with multiple medical problems
and acute injuries.

Infection and perhaps even cholera are anticipated major
problems."

cont.

"The biggest question to all of us is: Where is the
National Guard?

We hear jet fighters and helicopters overhead, but there is
no real armed presence, and hence the rampant looting.

There is no Red Cross and no Salvation Army.

We are under martial law, so a return to our homes is
impossible.

I don't know how long it will be and this is my greatest
fear.

The greatest pain is to think about the loss, and how long
the rebuilding will take.

That, and the horror of so many dead people ."

the whole thing over at BBC news.

This is like Akira turned reality, in terms of urban
chaos. Seems like multiple sides are fighting against each
other, and even fighting within their own groups.

I'm still at a loss as to why troops are being sent there
armed to the teeth. I mean, are they rescuing lives, or
collecting them?

Definitely in terms of Chaos yeah one can relate it to
Akira. Definitely. In N.O. I'm sure it seems very
apocalyptic. Widespread chaos and the primal survival
instincts kicking in.

The mil is being sent down to restore and maintain order.

I can't watch videos on my shit connection, but I know they
are sickening.

Has anyone here ever tried talking to a Bush supporter
before? It's like they have some stubborn entirely inverted
logic or something, ever since Iraq was invaded. The only
comeback they have is something like "I'm right and you are
wrong and that's the truth." and they ignore any kind of
facts or reasoning. Cognitive dissonance I tells ya.

It's good to see reportage like this on FOX. it's still very
tame... as in, I think that interview with the mayor of New
Orleans should've been broadcast, in its entirity,
nation-wide. It was sincerely one of the most moving pieces
of discourse I've ever heard.

One of the things I find most sickening, which the NYC Times
berrated bush for, is his ever-persistant failure to stop
smiling and grinning. You can't make light of a situation
like this. He should be solemn and remorseful; instead he's
literally shrugging off the deaths of thousands of people
whose deaths could've been prevented, and instead eliciting
applause with remarks like "and we're gonna build an even
greater new orleans HUH HUH HUH"

Twat.

On this point, when I mentioned it to my mother, she showed
me photographs from the Pope's funeral; photographs which
her boss (Australian ambassador to Ireland) attended.
Throughout them all, Bush is grinning and smiling. Wholly
arrogant and disrespectful behaviour.

Another thing that grates my nerves is the military being
sent in to shoot looters on sight. Why should looters be
shot? This is capitalism gone mad - the people have NO food,
NO way of getting food except for looting - so why the fuck
should they be shot because their primal instinct kicks in
and their bodies steal, in an order to preserve their
lives.

What're they meant to do? Walk into the stores, take some
food and leave money at the door? How the fuck else are they
expected to survive?

Insane.

upsetting it is that things like this are allowed to happen.

- The lack of accountability is even more alarming.

I do have to give props to the reporters that are making
attempts to save their own sold out souls by reporting the
actual f*ing news for once. It's the only positive ray I can
see in all of this.

Yes the idea that looters should be refused the ability to
take ten pairs of Nike trainers home to feed their starving
children is a travesty. Also the pictures of people taking
plasma T.V.'s should be seen in the context that they are
starving and modern T.V.s contain many chips.

The looting is not all innocent, there are gangs roaming
around murdering people who get in their way, and yes they
should be shot.

As for Bush grinning, it could just be that he grins when he
is nervous, a lot of people suffer from that affliction and
it is very hard to overcome, it doesn't necessarily imply
arrogance or disrespect.

I don't see why? Surely their sactions in Iraq should be
identical to their actions in New Orleans in that their job
is to protect innocent civilians and maintain order.

Regarding the plasma TV's, when the looting first began Fox
News and BBC both had footage of electrical shops being
looted. If people were looting out of necessity I have no
problem at all with it as I am sure 99% of the world
feel...however there are gangs looting, killing innocent
people and taking pot shots at rescue helicopters (even
coast guard ones) which puts more lives at risk without
cause. There is a real need for a military presence there,
one just has to hope they approach and deal with the matter
in the proper way.
