I thought the strings sounded like they were from a cheap
sound module..Dry and Unemotive...It's a good concept but
Not produced to a good enough standard imo

"It's a good concept but
Not produced to a good enough standard imo "

My thoughts exactly. I'd prefer versions of the tracks
without the usual breakbeat-fuckery, too.

everyone knows that the production values of a record are
far more important than the music contained therein.

hasnt techno music always been more about the character of
the sound than the actual composition?

I agree with the opposite of all this...

Most of it is sampled, I don't think the strings sound
cheap. I reckon the production is very good, at times much
better than the composition, melodies etc. And the
breakbeatfuckery is the best part of it, and isn't used
enough!

is this still techno music? seriously, what is techno,
exactly? i always think of early-90's dance music...
breakcore is quite different, i think.

(Moby is the Godfather of electronic music)

I appreciate that the musical ideas come first but texture
and a well balanced sound are very important aswell.

Having some knowledge of sound and production techniques
means I constantly pull apart music into its raw elements
and think how I would have done it differently.

If someone on the board had posted these tracks, I would see
it as being a good effort. For a well known and respected
artist it falls a little below par, I know it's only my
opinion but this sounds rushed, almost demo quality stuff.
Good ideas that Need refining.

I like the album exactly the way it is. I also like the
track Go from Moby, I also like a large number of eminems
tracks. So you can all go and fuck yourself until your
rectums bleed.

I was a bit harsh in my last post. V-Snares is clearly very
good at what he does, and a lot better than some of the
other stuff around at the moment.

Sounds mostly sampled, though he could have added parts
himself. Some of it, if not all, is definitely sampled.

23-25 seconds into track 2, Szerencsetlen is from the very
beginning of Bela Bartok's String Quartet No. 4.

In fact the whole thing sounds like it's pieced together
from any combination of parts from Bartok's 6 string
quartets (Which are way way better on their own without the
hackneyed drill added). Other similar works he could have
used may be some Ligeti quartets, though I have pretty
limited knowledge.

Oh and on the subject of string quartets and chamber music,
if anybody knows where I could buy or download a Julliard
Quartet performance of Paul Hindemith's string
quartets...well, it would be great. I heard his string
quartet number one on the radio as performed by Julliard
Quartet (twice actually), and it was amaaaazing. The only
one I can find for download is by the 'Danish Quartet' or
somesuch but it lacks so much energy in comparison.

I would love to hear the original version that Gloomy Sunday
(in track 3 Ongyilkos Vasarnap) is taken from, but I can't
find anything but covers of the song by other artists.

or rather - I wouldn't see "production values" as seperate
from "the music" - it's inherent to the music.

I thought the production on the strings was fine. It was the
beats that bothered me.

I love Bartok's music (and Hungarian folk music too.)

I haven't got the album, but I can't imagine drill n bass
beats combining very well with that (already accomplished
and perfect in its own right) music; I'll buy it and see for
myself.

venetian snares learnt to play the violin for this album,
just do a search for vioin at planet-mu and you'll see what
I mean, I can't find the original article where it said he
learnt to play the violin, but he did, however some of the
tracks contain the sounds of cello's, I think the closest
thing to the truth is that some of it is sampled, some of it
is him playing, I remember in htis particular article it
also said that the breakbeats were an 'afterthought' to the
original tracks...

Ugh, afterthoughts. He should have done a straight classical
album and not ruined it with beats that don't gel.

gloomy sunday I believe the one he sampled was billie
holidays
I have a version of it some where ill try to pick it up on
slsk later this evening

the original version is actually much more depressing

I think it was a traditional song kind of like greensleeves
and star of the county down
