I have suffered from severe chronic migraines since I was 5. I get about 1 or more a week. Sometimes they are so intense I vomit from the pain.
I've been to doctors about this and have been perscribed everything under the sun, nothing works. They've increased in intensity over the years. One doctor believes I may have even opened up small fissures in my skull as a result from the pressure.
Does anyone else here have this problem? How do you cope?

Ah shit, that sounds bad. I suffer from really bad headaches. I never used to get them but I seem to be getting them nearly every day now. It's so intensely frustrating and it fucking hurts. It's always there and it pisses me off.
I feel like I know why I get them though. I think I don't drink enough water and I don't get enough sleep.
I try not to use painkillers but when I do it seems to do the job.

my dad is the same.. headaches all his life, increasingly getting worse.
he started taking pills to relieve water retention, and at the same time quit his job that was stressing him out, and the frequency of his headaches DRASTICALLY reduced. So much so that I can't remember the last time I saw him face down on the couch in deathly pain.. whereas a couple of years ago he was like that at least once a week.
that supports my theory that i'd had for a decade, that they were heavilly stress related. also, since he doesn't have a job he's been fucking around outside a whole lot more, and watching significantly less television, which i believe also plays a huge role in the lessening of his headaches.
i'd say his quality of life has grown exponentially as his headaches have grown less frequent.

topamax is the worst soul-sucking poison i've ever seen. i hated seeing him when he was on that bullshit. he lost like 40 pounds, and didn't enjoy anything. it was scarilly sad. but, then within a week or two of stopping it he was getting better.
that shit should be illegal.

There is this great book "The Devil's Larder" by Jim Crace (total recommendation) with a story about migraines. They list things that could trigger a migraine. It is hillarious, and so true.. because so many of the triggers contradict themselves. Like "too much exercise / not enough exercise.." I'll dig it up when I get home and transcribe it (if I am not dying of death pain) *(i have a migraine right now)

I've never vomited for no reason, but I do get incredibly stressed and I feel it all over my muscles and in my head. I forget to breathe normally and have to remind myself. So how do I deal with it?

i know how it feels... i suffer from regular headaches that are often so intense that i feel like throwing up, too. the only thing i can do is take painkillers and try to fall asleep asap (tho i often even cannot sleep 'cause of that pain)
but i've noticed that neck & back massage REALLY can help ease the muscle tension and relieve the pain... so you might get somebody do a relaxing massage on your back, neck and shoulders (better on a regular basis, of course).

I have only had a handful, it must be horrible for you to have them so frequently. I haven't had one for a few years now, I think 4 years.
Mine were always precluded by a blind spot in the center of my vision. The first time I was in fifth grade, about 11 years old? I didn't know what was going on, I was in band class and I couldn't see the notes direclty in front of my vision, it was blank right where I looked.
Another time it also caused facial deformities. It looked like everyone had a black/deformed left eye when I looked directly at their face.
If I have these symptoms I try to fall asleep very quickly before the pain sets in. Also get loss of sensation in extremeties, tingling hands/feet.
I have vomited once from a migraine.
I feel your pain.

yep i hear the loss of sensation in extremeties part. Apparently there is a corrolation between the onset of puberty and migraines something to do with hormones (hence why a lot of people like myself and mappatazee started getting them at about 11 years old) or so one doctor told me.

I never figured out what my triggers were. I get spotty vision temporarily (a small dot or blotch for a minute or two) when I haven't eaten for a while.
The pain for me is (or was, I haven't had one for so long) right behind my eyes, like I want to rip them out. I really don't get headaches anymore other than hangovers, so I'm guessing it probably was triggered by hormones while I was growing up, being that migraines are a chemical thing.
