this whole £13.99 deal is pretty amazing.

you make a list of all the films you want to see.

3 get sent out to you and you keep them as long as you like

when you've watched one, use the stamped addressed envelope
to send it back

the next dvd on your list gets sent the next day

you watch as many movies as you can for £13.99 per month

one gets sent, you watch it, send it back, new one comes off
your list

nicely done kenneth

ps i am in no way am affiliated with blockbuster.co.uk
pps analord rules????

i've never heard of it.... do explain

Basically, netflix had the idea -- they've been doing this
service in the states for a few years now. I think
blockbuster's subscription thing is much more recent.
They're a little more expensive than blockbuster, but I
tried both and found netflix's shipping is a lot faster.

really... i guess we don't have it, certainly not on the
high street. but i sent mine back and had a new one through
the door 2 days later, not bad i reckon.

That makes sense; in the US, netflix has a lot more shipping
centers than blockbuster, but since your country is so much
more compact, shipping times would be faster.

yeah right, my dvds are only going to milton keynes which is
about 100 miles

there is a netflix shipping center right in my city, so
unless i order some obscure thing that they only have in
their california center across the country, i get my new
dvds about 2 days after i put the old ones in my mail box.

these services help put local video rentals out of business.
that's a problem because corporations like blockbuster
censor and edit their movies and don't stock their inventory
based on quality but by what will be the most popular
(leaving out a lot of important films).

The tighter they squeeze their grip the more independent
video distributors will slip through their fingers.

i hope it turns out that you're right... but what i've seen
is that in many areas, the only video stores that are
surviving are the large chains.

it's been like that for years now, or no? I remember getting
all sorts of vids 10 odd years ago for rental, now they only
stock 1,000,000,000 copies of the latest shit-fest.

how would their films getting pirated faster help cover the
huge debt they've accrued while trying to produce their art?

Movies aren't art....

I'm glad the independants are getting run out of town. I
want one corporation for everything...

DVDs need to be cheaper, that's the end of it. So do CDs.
Cut back on the lavish marketing, the launches, the lunches,
make the product affordable, and stop fucking being dicks.

DVDs are cheap.

I remember when a new movie on VHS cost 80 pounds
sterling...

yes, dvd's have always been relatively inexpensive. that's
why they have caught on.

no, that's not what i meant... i meant that they could have
gone the way of laserdiscs, but one thing that helped them
get popular quickly and stay that way was that they were
just affordable enough to buy your old movies over again. i
wasn't making a comparison - i thought that's just the way
it happened. is that incorrect?

DVDs haven't always been inexpensive here in the UK. Even
now we're still paying £15/$28 for a new release like The
Bourne Supremacy.

What is growing rapidly though is the amount of DVDs you can
get for under £6/$11. Unless you're really despearte to buy
something as a new release it pays to wait until it's
reduced.

who wants to wacth a movie more than once? maybe like two
years later but is it worth buying 100 dvds where you know
the end of all of them?

that does seem more expensive... as far as i know, the
average dvd here goes for $20... that's how much i'd expect
to pay for a normal movie on dvd... and that price has been
about the same for years.

well I have over 200 dvd's by now and I don't regret buying
any of them.

some I watch a lot, some I've only watched once. but maybe I
will watch them again, we'll see.

to me it's almost like a library to reference, if you will.

I also lend out quite a lot to friends. :)
