Joyrex MB versus this one.

for me, i've stopped using the joyrex MB, even though i'm a
big fan of his page.
But Phob has made this MB even more user friendly and he's
kept the style and simplicity which is important.

are you all "ex-joyrex MB posters" or do you still post on
the Joyrex MB regularly?

-respect.

I used to post on JR occasionaly, I've always been a .nuer
tho, I just love the simplicity + the crowd.

I must say tho, the news/facts/literature section of the
joyrex mb is much more complete and updated than v4 (no
offense phob.) Its kind of like Joyrex is more the Aphex
Twin Resource and AT.nu is the Aphex Twin Community....oh
wait =)

I've never really posted on that board, I've always been
very content with this one, always been very accessable in
my mind, plus it was the first aphex twin site I found when
I first got into his music.

I posted a lot there. But uh we will not need to discuss
that any further. Before it was different, there were far
more idiots posting here because of the lack of "security"
here, but not v5 is in place, its idiot free and obviously
far superior.

like this one much better.

could find there jupiter or mike to see what they could be
saying... but i didnt find them... anyway I agree... nobody
seemed to post there and it was a bit confusing that thing
of separating the topics

good navigation here, not there, don't need to start more

Joyrex is a great board, cool people nice interface... but
this one just happens to be better. ;-)

Nacmat, Jupiter DOES post there now, as On.

And they're giving him a rough time... dunno where Mike is.

And I LOVE the v5 layout...

which is amazing and just awsome.... that one is not.

i bet joyrex will read this thread. while i'm at it, i just
want to note that i find him to be really silly for not
liking drukqs. (yes reflex i realize you're not a fan of it
either, but you don't run what is arguably the best
unofficial aphex twin web site.)

I have to admit that Tune and Phobia have done a great job
with this board, and while I'm really not out to compete
with Phobia, our "friendly rivalry" has made both sites
better I think.

This new board is probably the best thing that has happened
to this site in some time, because the quality of the
threads here has gone up considerably, which is what
matters.

I use an 'out of the box' board because I am not a
proficient Perl programmer like Tune, nor do I have access
to one who has the free time to help me out. I like the
features, speed, and ease-of-use.

One thing I will point out to you though is a lot of the
features Tune and Phobia have incorporated into this new
board is strikingly similar to the 'out of the box'
messageboards. Food for thought.

RE: DrukQs - I never said I hated DrukQs entirely, just I
was very disappointed by it as I expected something
different. There are about 3-5 tracks on it I really like,
and the rest, like many have said, is more like 'filler'
material. If you all understood some of the reasons behind
why DrukQs was released, you'd look at it differently too.

As for me running an Aphex site and not liking one of
Richard's releases, I think I am better for it and so are
the visitors to my site - if I said I liked DrukQs even
though I actually did not, I'd be no better than a
manufactured website run by some record label.

If you all like it here more than my site/board, then great
- support Phobia and help him make the site better. It's the
least you can do in return for all his hard work. We're not
running these sites to win some popularity contest - we do
them to provide YOU the Aphex fan the information about your
favourite artist.

how dare you assume what i or we do or do not understand.
that's highly pompous of you.

as for drukqs, it's not just *one* of richard's releases -
it's the latest. as a site keeping up with his current music
and performances, it seems highly strange for the webmaster
to not even appreciate the latest offering. i'm not saying
anyone who's heard the album should be head over heels in
love with it, but you of all people - it just doesn't sit
right.

Times ago, when V4 was full of Clones and Trolls I took make
bags and I moved to joyrex mb.
After 2 months I came back to aphextwin.nu 'cos it was my
first aphex site, phobiazero is a friend, and I was sure
about the improvement of v5.

Anyway Joyrex mb was funny, but was slow for my old modem
56K...
I like Joyrex as webmaster, he's a nice and kind person and
he knows everything about Aphex Twin.
He always gave an answer to my questions and so sometime I
go to visit his site.

I hope aphextwin.nu and joyrex.com will remain for long time
on our web.

titsworth-your last post is very interesting. you make a
comment relating to joyrex's disapointment of afx's newest
by using the word silly. I hear silly used a lot with
parents talking to their kids. your thinking seems to be
that because joyrex runs an afx website that it is silly for
him to not to appreciate it. it seems to me that one can
first be dissapointed(JREX's words) with a release but also
appreciate it for what it is. like maybe expecting a record
that flows like polygon window but insteading receiving a
collection of old tracks with some new ones on it. anyway
it seems that you made a snide comment thus luring him in
than blast him for defending himself. maybe one shouldn't
reply to your insults? if that is true your sense of
entitlement is amazing.

As to afx.nu vs joyrex- I'm content with the thinking that
two afx boards are better than one.

are saying what they really think when we ask them

Drukqs was a disappointment for me as well. I
expected more from my God... and like Joyrex said; 4-5
tracks are really great, especially the older ones.

I can't see why my personal opinion would be bad for me?

Thanks for all your positive feedback. The good news is that
it will be even better soon.

Ive said it since day 1, I was dissapointed by the new CD
because it didnt resemble his old style, predating RDJ album
I mean, Im talking AB3 and Caustic Window stuff.....
probably even Quoth and who can forget Polygon window!

I dont really enjoy the way he went, it was... typical I
think.

perceptor- i used "silly" as a neutered word cos i like the
guy. i explained better the 2nd time why i find it pecuiliar
that he doesn't like it. i don't think i was being snide,
and if i wanted to i could've been completely juvenile about
my opinion on the matter. i found HIS claim to be juvenile.
unless he knows some starting piece of information that
hasn't been in any of the interviews or articles (and i mean
any of them at all) i don't see where he gets off dictating
what i do and do not understand or know.

polygon window IS a collection of old tracks btw. i don't
understand your point there.

Some of what Archrival said is true; DrukQs was mostly a
contract-ending release for Richard, and I think it shows.
Contrary to popular belief, a LOT of those songs are really
old, and you can clearly see the difference between the old
and new tracks. I had knowledge of this long before DrukQs
was formally announced, and when it turned out to be the
case, I was disappointed. It's not like Confield (another
love-it or hate-it album) where everyone was expecting the
same old AE and they went in a totally different direction,
this alienating some of their fans.

I agree with Phresch's first comment about "simplicity being
important". Since you die unless you evolve, there will be
some changes to my board, and you all are welcome to
frequent this one or mine as much as you like. As Perceptor
said, "two boards are better than one", which I agree with
entirely. I read this board almost as much as I read mine.
I'd be a fool and ignorant to ignore the great source of
information that lies here.

Whether or not Drukqs isn't entirely new stuff, I still
think it's in a different league than his older stuff.
Polygon Window is simple and boring compared to Drukqs, and
not simple in a ''SAW2'' way... it's good, but it's just not
in the same league as Drukqs. Now Drukqs may not be a big
step up, it may be a step BACK... but it at least fixes one
of the problems I had with the RDJ Album... short tracks!
Ziggomatic is flawless!

And I've got about 250 posts over at Joyrex, plus I read it
a lot, it's a great site. Different strokes for different
folks, though... and that is one cute kid you got there!

As far as this thread goes, I really feel there shouldn't be
any rivalry between the two sites. I have visited both sites
for some time now, though I usually post at Joyrex simply
because I found it to be more worthwhile in engaging a
dialogue between others that are fans of Aphex Twin. Not
that this board doesn't have it's share of knowledgable
individuals, but because I can address the 'type' of topic I
would like with more catagorization. For instance, I can
talk about anything that comes to the top of my head in a
General Discussion forum, the latest Rephlex releases in
another, my latest music making endevours in yet another -
etc. This seperated catagorization of information is very
useful (there are many boards that do this, not just
Joyrex).

In general, Joyrex is, imo - the most comphrehensive RDJ
archive on the internet. Phobiazero's information is
certainly nothing to overlook and quite informative, as
well. Both sites compliment one another, in actuallity. And
both sites Webmasters are to be respected, as are their
communities.

Peace.
