This is an appreciation thread for Jim Carey with an emphasis on his distinguished work "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" (part 1) This man is an insane and creative comedy genius.

Jim Carey is like U2 and George Bush. They are extremely popular, yet, I have never actually met anyone who actually admitted to liking them.

Liar liar was bad as was bruce thingy and ace ventura 2 etc...
Ace ventura was ok, fun and again relaxing... the truman show had a similar effect on me as it did on qrter and eternal sunshine was ace.

I think he can be pretty good, but I agree with Carl - only when the director is very good.
same thing goes for Adam Sandler in "punch-drunk love".

Sandler sucks, yes, he's so college jock/stoner fan. Dave Mathew fans like Sandler probably, BUT, I liked Anger Management and Punch-Drunk Love. He's smart to choose films that challenge his identity. Same with Carey, although, he still can't contain himself.
