any artist here who make 8 bit music (=nintendo old
school)? i'm really getting into the 8bit scene right now.
i'm working on serveral tunes ATM, already written the
lyrics and melodies (only problem i need a mic).

if you want to get started get the triforce vst synth, which is
an 8bit sound emulator

feel free to post your 8 bit trax here

just found a wicked 8 bit "drill & chip" tune on
8bitpeoples.com:
Lo-Bat - Twinkle

no kidding, do you do anything other than 8 bit? :P

wouldn't it be more interesting to like, actually make 8-bit
music with 8-bit equipment rather than using plugins for
modern applications? it kind of seems like cheating.

I concur... I know people who make music with nanoloop and
LSDj.

I used to make 8 bit music, but I just sampled my gameboy
and re-arranged the sounds in fruityloops.

I sometimes use nanoloop in a gameboy emulator, but I don't
make 8 bit music anymore.

Thanks for that link AlbertoBalsalm. I d/led everything
those guys had to offer. Did you check out the other synths
and effects? Any good?

nope.

i really want a gameboy and LSDJ. unfortunatly they won't
produced any more cartridges until next year. i'm gonna try
to get it on ebay. until then, i can use the LSDJ ROM image
file (costs 36$), load it into a gameboy emulator. just
tried it for the first time today. i actually just found out
about the existence of LSDJ today, it's pretty wicked!

funny track by the way

You can just d/l the demo rom, and then save the states in a
good quality emulator like REW.

Did you know, that with nester (an emulator for the
nintendo, gameboy and gameboy color) you can isolate the
different wavform generators? So if you want to sample the
melody in games like zelda or mario 3, you can remove the
bassline and beat, or leave only the bassline or beat so
that you get a really clean sample.

LSDJ sounds rad. anything like this for snes/sega master
system era consoles?

Nanoloop is good too. Less for writing techno music, more
for audio exploration of the sound technologies.

Im guessing most people go here already, but Micromusic.net
has some excellent free software and loads of tracks.

I use samples for the beats, keeping the decay really short
to make them snappy, low bit rates produce alot of unwanted
low frequency which can lead to a muddy mix, plenty of eq
and compression helps. This probably also sounds like
cheating to the hardcore lsdj users.
