i find reason better for the user friendly layout +
everything is soo easy in it.
the sound is a bit of a wank...friutly kinda leads in that.

I use Reason.

I've tried Fruity Loops many times over the years in its
varying versions and I just couldn't get into it.

FL sounds better than Reason - if you use your own VSTis.
Most of the bundled instruments and sounds are crap. The
beatslicer is great though.

If you don't already have a bunch of favorite VSTis then
Reason might sound better at first. However you're stuck
with what it has - no support for third party plugins.

FL has the best piano roll editing around, far better than
Cubase, Cakewalk or Reason. And the automation is killer.

Once you know your way around FL it sounds as good as
anything.

i prefer Reason myself, i just never got into FL, didnt feel
good to use for me. I use Reason and Logic.

As for tracks made in Reason sounding like Reason, you just
have to learn how to not make it sound like Reason, which
comes with using it for a long time. But it does suck that
you are stuck with the limited reason instruments and
effects.

I am just a poor little girl that needs of the cracker to
use FL in a full version, then,I will need the Reason´s
cracker too.

Yes it's true. The people who say "Floops sounds crap" tend
to be refering to the 404, Wasp, and the default fruity
kick, as opposed to Absynth, Reaktor and a load of Zero G
drum samples ;-)

But that said, I use Reason a lot to "sketch" tracks as I
find it quicker to work with and I sometimes do my rhythm
lines in that; I prefer Dr. Rex to Beatslicer.

Reason's midi implementation leaves a lot to be desired
whereas Floops' is grade A.

Compared to cubase, reason and fruity both sound like crap.

I use reason in cubase.

I like the little plugs in fruityloops, like the wavtraveler
and granulizer, but its really awkward to write full songs
in. Compare seeing all your programming in one screen to
seeing a bunch of squares and rectangles. Fruity is good for
writing beat loops tho.

I don't really use it much, but when I do, I use reason...

however, I almost always export to and sequence in Acid.. I
find that I can always fix reasons bad sound with some eq
and stuff...

Yes, for drum machine type beats it's really good. Being
able to see them for all parts as clearly as you can is like
some wonderful sampling-capable 707/909 thing.

Fruity is also really good for microsound. Cubase is not so
good. Thats what rewire is for tho.

fl sucks. piano roll in fl looks looks shitty, interface in
fl is shitty, sound is shitty. reason has more when it comes
to sound manipulating. thats why it is on 1, almost full CD,
and sound libraries take another two CD's, while fl is a
stupid tracker for some silly dollars.
really, i cant believe that most of you have so good ears
that you can say "fuckin reason sound". it is fuckin when
you dont know how to do / use your own samples, or how to
change them. fl is also fuckin if you will be trapped in VST
trap, where you are addicted to VST plug-ins, and can do
nothing without them. while VST is not as good as is
supposed to be.

i used fl, now i use reason. i find most of the knobs
perfectly fitting in the place of twatty installations of
several fucked up plug-ins from unknown sources.

for the money fruity is way more interesting

i thinkreason's a little bit more on the semi-pro side of
things, but it is just too much of a commercial product for
me to put that much money in it...

when you can have things like ReNoise or audiomulch for
around 50$ its a bit dumb to buy reason IMO

errh.. I know what microbeat is.. but is microsound anything
different? the only other thing I can connect it to is that
thing with the people who recorded sounds that aren't
audible to the human ear (the sound of a tree growing and
stuff like that)...

Minimal is more stuctured, less varied.

Microsound refers to music wherein the musician manipulates
'micro'samples (or microsounds), in finite detail. Think;
old Kid 606, Richard Devine and Dino Philipe (along with
most of the schematic Krew), Leafcutter John. Stuff like
that.

One of the more popular sub-genres of this sub-genre is
known as microhouse. Some names; Mathew Herbert, Akufen,
Soft Pink Truth.

yeah,we call it minimal...i'm a minimal artists myself and
reason seems to be the only logich explanation when it comes
to this.
no matter what other ppl say, reason has one of the
userfriendly interfaces around.
fuck cubase, nuendo, logic or floops if you can't get your
head around it fast and just do music.
i use nuendo just for mastering and for getting a better
sound out of reason, cos his efffects are really poor. only
the rv7000 is awesome.

I agree with you on the FX front. I'm hoping there's a
better compressor in Reason 3. The tape setting on Scream4
isn't too bad, but it's quite limited. The old (forget the
name) one from reason 1/2 (half rack unit) is very poor.

offline plaster from splitska 10 on 2004-11-09 07:56 [#01388772]
Points: 4173 Status: Regular

yeah,i use tape compression a lot if i have quiet
samples, but that just in the first part of the process.
i make the whole track in reason, add a bit of echo to see
how it sounds then i rewire everything dry and process it
through nuendo.
later when it's finished i just bounce every sound by itself
and do the eq-ing,reverberation and compression in
nuendo...and then add the final compression to the overall
track.

oh and the statement that FL has a shittier sound then
reason is bullshit. tests have shown that reason is the
crappiest. and that FL studio is as good as cubase
soundwise. the thing is that fruity plays samples only at
75% of the volume. that's the thing that people mistake for
crappy sound.

yeah scream is also ok..it has some nice lofi effects, but in

one point for reason goes for the patching
flexibility...floops,cubase,nuendo and others don't have
it.

Ugg. The effects in reason sound like ass. They really need
some better effects. That is what rewire is for, tho.

IF you don't want to figure out cubase, just use VSTack. It
allows you good effects, instead of the dime-store variety
that come complete in every package of reason.

excuse me???

patching possibilities in fruityloops are more than
develloped

automation, controlling and signal routing is very well
implemented in FL, think about the formula controller, the
peak controller, the layer channels, etc etc...

That is why floops is really good for microsound.

I just don't like the way the vst interface works. Or the
