With so much going on in the world with terrorism and
Muslim connections, what is your view on the Muslim
religion?

I have a problem with the extremists.

ive met one musilim in my life- fortunately, weve met at the
hotel where i was working as a nigh porter. the guy was
called Rashid, and his father, Burhaib, was the owner of the
hotel. anyway, he was sometimes chatting with me about
muslim religion and stuff at nights- ive had nothing to do
after midnight, he, as a rich son of rich father, havent got
anything to do also.
he said many interesting things, that has opened my eyes a
bit - for instance that TV and generally, media, are one
sided in middle east issues - as country Izrael was formed
by western goverments, we cant have objective look on the
matters that are happening there - at least not objective if
we wil stay here, in europe.
once i asked "why all these muslim want to kill all
non-muslims", and i expected to hear that "our religion blah
blah blah".
but he said simply "its not that Koran says that we should
kill. its just the peole who likes to make false picture of
what is written in this book, and use this picture for their
own purposes. remember that people also killed for christ-
like crusaiders in medieval, burnin people for science,
etc.".

i dunno if all muslims are like this onr guy, but if they
would be, the world would be better i think.

i feel the same about islaam as i do about christianity.

however, i know relatively little about christianity and
even less about islaam.

I would say a lot of Muslims are like that. But the ones
taht get the media coverage are the fucking crackpots.

Gwely: ROCK ON!

yeah, the point is "media coverage", we will never know the
right ones, unless we meet them personally.
Rashind gave me Koran book, i havent read it yet, but will
do. someday.

and loads of their rituals are strange to me - like, for
exapmle, in middle east, the women must have cover the body
+face with a "robe". thats not everything- if the wife and
husband are walking by the street, the wife must be allways
5 steps in front of the husband, so he could control whats
she's doing when she's walking. weeird. and stupid, at least
for me.

Robby Racist is not only scared of the religion, but also
the word.

in fact, Robby Racist would avoid all the letters in the
word "islam" if he actually could read and/or write.

Islam as with most religions is all about the
interpretation. In essance the Koran is very similar to the
Old Testiment or The Tankah in it's value system and as with
these scriptures people have taken good teachings and added
there own spin on things.

I have read The Koran and I would recomend doing so to get
your own insight to Islam.

I have to agree that the media controls our judgement.
However, if we are saying that because everything we see
about Muslim's from the media makes what we see from the
media and the opinions we make from what we see invalid.
Then is every opinion of ours which is formulated by the
media invalid?

much islamic stuff talked about... but it should be a cool

The problem is definetly the radicals, but how many radicals
are in the middle east? Westerners equate radical with
obscure. They want there countries to be completely islam.
With no ties or dealings with western nations. Unfortunately
they are sitting on the worlds econimic life blood.

" have to agree that the media controls our

it doesn't. you can let it control you.

"Then is every opinion of ours which is formulated by the

media invalid?"

no. just because some part is bullshit, doesn't mean all of
it is. it does however mean that you should try and make up
your own mind, using several different media sources. it's
not foolproof, but it's a start.

I make it a point to know the juicy bits in the bible - it's
fun to throw a difficult bit in a christian's face and watch
him squirm and evade and do the old "well, how do we know
anything for sure, and God made such a beautiful world for
us to enjoy, and LOOK THAT SQUIRREL'S WEARING A HAT" :: runs
away ::

I riffled through it in English on tha intarweb just after
911 - barely remember any of it. I recall one nice bit that
seemed to say it was okay for different peoples to have
different beliefs. I should get a hard copy - I always
retain printed info better than something on the screen.

nacmat, you don't have to belive in afterlife to live by

interesting things to find in a religion...especially one as
old as islam. and compared to christianity i think islam is
much more user friendly.

There is no "Muslim Religion" singular, just as there is no
Christianity singular or Buddhism singular or Judaism
singular or any other religion. ALL religious traditions are
splint into innumerable factions all at war with each other
over the "true" version of said religion. All texts,
religious texts especially, cannot be simply read - they
have to be interpreted.

there can be culture and customs without religion

though its true that religion has brought lots of culture to

the religious meaning

in the cultural meaning:
I love muslim culture... and the architecture is incredible
