How about it? Pick a BPM (say 169) and someone (I don't have the right software) does a basic beat match mix up to about 70mins. Gotta be worth a go, all styles included...

Hmm, can by tricky to actually beat mix if the breaks are sampled from a real drummer rather than done on a drum machine (as I'm sure you know). Maybe do blends on synth/bass bits (eg agree everyone starts with synth/bass and ends with drums playing out). Otherwise you tend to need to do lots of fast cutting between the two tracks being mixed or even cutting mid way through the track, both of which: a) put a lot of owness on the "mixer" and b) might annoy the music makers- "You cut off the last minute of my track, that's the best part!"
Not a criticism of the idea/them (I'd love a DnB vibes), just an observation re: the mixing. I agree 169bpm is a good choice of tempo though. I also think the tempo should be rigidly enforced. With the club vibes, a lot of people were +- 5%, I don't know if they don't understand about DJing, but their tracks would be played at 135bpm anyway and the pitch would just be off/vocals sounding a bit weird.

Maybe just switch between tracks in 1 go, not really mixed but same tempo, without gaps, if ya know what I mean... Unless there were tracks that would mix easily, but that would be up to the compilier I guess.
Just thought it would be cool as I reckon there would be many different takes on the style on here.
Yes the BPM would have to be strict, otherwise mixing it would be a nightmare.

Yep, I like fast cuts in DnB mixing. Could even do something like, play out of a, bar of b, bar of a, bar of b, bar of a, play rest of b. So long as people put a clear: intro, main body of track, play out, it could work really well.
I'd be up for doing a track(s) for this, it'd give me the excuse I've been looking for to finish a couple of the dozen or so unfinished dnb track I've got. :)

You'll be pitched -0.5% biotch! :-P
Diablo: Hopefully my best mate should be buying a final scratch in the next month or so. If he does, I'll happily do the mix (presumably it wouldn't be for a month or so anyway as the tracks would need to be made?). Otherwise, I won't, as I lack an appropriate midi controller/low enough latency soundcard to mix DnB well on the PC (Traktor is great for making mashups and perfect beat mixing, but it's gash for dnb or hip hop IMO).

Its fookin hard making decent sounding tracks with the limited crap software (& PC) I have but i'll give it a go. I have a couple of tunes I can post here soon.

but.. im so busy with other music projects right now.. first of all i wanna finish my current album im working on..
then i think ill be doing another small project with Lucidikah
then i wanna make a track for polychromatics breakcore/dnb compilation..
and i never know if im in the right mood for making music and if i have the "flow" and if I lose the flow this future month.. then this all could take some heavy time
ill probably miss out on the compilations..

Okay, this is now officially a future XLT Vibes...
I'll oversee it, but I might call on Phresch to mix it at the end if that's okay with him?
JAroen: Sure, so long as he can keep to the beat (maybe use a metronome/click track?) :)
************************** Basic Instructions:
169 BPM. This is pretty rigid- beat mixing DnB is pretty tricky anyway, especially when you're not doing it on turntables.
Note to people who don't understand DJing: Even if you write your track at 172bpm/whatever, it will be re-tempoed to 169... the only thing will be that it's pitch will be off. So, write your track at 169 in the first place! :)
Although the title is "Drum and Bass" (and we'd certainly like some entries to be DnB), Ragga and Jungle (and even to a degree, Drill and Bass and Breakbeat) are acceptable.
As this will be a "mix" to some degree, as opposed to simply playing one track after another, I may not use all tracks. Please don't be offended if you track isn't used- it's not neccessarily bad- it just means it doesn't "fit" with the other tracks (although submitting a 180bpm track will make it even less likely to fit...). Remember, some of the best vibes compilations have only used about 1/2 the tracks submitted.
With this in mind (and not wanting to put people off with too many rules), multiple entries are permitted. So, if you want, make three and maybe 1/2 of them will be used.
Means of Submission: Not sure on this yet. Perhaps the best thing would be to keep your track reasonably secret (by all means share with a couple of SS buddies to get feedback/whatever, just don't make it available for the world to hear yet), and just post when it's done in this thread. Once there are a fair number complete, I'll post more details on how to submit.
Cheers everyone and good luck,
Ceri.

The reason this one is being started whilst there are 2 in progress is that club vibes is very nearly finished- it's just waiting to be mixed.
This one isn't really "live" yet (ie: no deadline set, no instructions for submitting tracks), it's just letting people know so they can get working on tracks :)

Oh groovy, I was wondering why there wasn't a DnB Vibes yet. I've been wanting to suggest this vibes myself for quite some time but there were so many in the making already. Anyway I've got a few decent sounding but half finished DnB tracks on my sys at 169 bpm, so this seems like a reason to finish them.
