the discography...

I must say I find the discography extremely annoying... for
one thing, it opens in a new window which I hate, and then
when you look through the discography to find a cd, in order
to do anything with the cd, like post a discussion thread,
you need to log in again... and for some reason I can't even
do that... personally I think it'd be much better if
everything just stayed in the one window... if you want to
find something about a certain cd, you can spare a few
minutes away from the message board to look...

i don't know what size everyone's monitor is, but i'm
guessing that nowadays everyone's is pretty large, or set to
a high dpi. that said, the discography should fill that
empty dark gray space on the right over there--->

yeah, it's probably just my cookies... they should be on...

I tried it using netscape, and it worked fine... for some
reason IE gives me problems... but it always has here... for
a period I couldn't even log in here using IE, which is why
I downloaded Netscape... I used to delete my cookies, etc,
etc, and nothing seemed to work...

I agree, the 3 little boxes suck, they make it so hard to do
something so simple.

ok, well seems like I'm the only one with the having to log
in again problem... so that must be my cookies...

but I still think it should load in the same window...

Why don't you try opening both windows at once?

well it did in Netscape... for some reason in IE when I open
the new window, I can look through the discography and
stuff... but if I wanted to start a discussion thread or
something it says I need to login again... must be my
cookies or something... shrug...

Well, IE is all screwed up, have you tried this Mozilla
thing? It works pretty good, but I haven't gotten plug-ins
(Shockwave, Flash) to work with it.

All the plugins work fine with Mozilla, even more so with
Firebird. Check to make sure you're the admin or have admin
rights on the machine you're on so you can install plugins.
XP will not allow you to do that if you're not logged in as
an administrator-equivalent account.

Well, when I go to install Shockwave the damn thing says I
have to install it into a Netscape Plugin folder.

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2004-01-13 21:53 [#01032248]

Hmmm... try downloading the executable, and then choose the
plugins folder to install it to.

I tried that, and thats where I got that message from, also
I need to install java as well...

I'd try Firebird - it's a bit nicer than Moz anyways...

Lemme try with a fresh Moz install and I'll post what
happens in a minute.

Well, actually I am using Mozilla Firebird.

Odd - now I can't install them into Moz - I keep getting
"the object has been blocked" message (I think ZoneAlarm is
messing with it)...

personally I like it. The only thing i'd want is a search
function but I believe that was mentioned before as being on
the wya for the full version.

the discography will use the same window as the rest of the
site as soon as it's finished.

and you don't have to login twice, if everything is set up
correctly in your system. but perhaps the all-in-one window
change will fix your problem.

it's all very temporarily as i have pointed out at several
times. the finished discography will look a lot different.
the current method of navigating the discography is called
"advanced mode" and is just one of many modes of use we've
planned.

a search feature will be added too, of course.

a couple of months ago we decided to launch individual
sections of the site, as in opposite of launching the whole
site at once. if we would have choosen the later
alternative, you wouldn't even have seen anything but the
msgboard on this day.

there's also a point in keeping various sections messy,
since the contrast to the "finsihed" site will be much
bigger!

hmmm, yeah should apologize I guess... don't want to be too
harsh there... just meant it as a suggestion really, about
how I think it'd be better keeping it in one window... it
was just bugging me how I couldn't use it, but it seems to
be my system...

glad to hear that you're keeping it in the one window... and
really, the discography is a cool thing... can't wait to see
everything all done!

hey guess what i just discovered?

you can select more than one artist at a time and then it'll
list all of the albums by how ever many artists you pick.
pretty neat. has anyone else done this?

i guess you could pick your favorite artists and give the
link to a friend to check out. that is, if you have
friends....

well, do you?!
