Note that one can buy battery replacement kits way cheaper
than the apple price quoted in the video. However that
doesn't change the shitness. They use sony batteries so what
do you expect? :(

I'm still on the minidisc kick, I love it.

I'm sure there has to be some sorta modification that can be
made to the unit... otherwise... what the hell good is it?

or creative jukebox zen - iPod clone to half the price and
same amount of storage. I bet it has a replacable battery
too.

"According to sources, Apple is planning on introducing an
official iPod Battery Replacement program. Through the
program, iPod owners will be able to send in their out of
warranty iPods to replace worn batteries. The lack of an
official battery replacement program has been a common
criticism amongst iPod owners. Apple's official replacement
service is expected to be priced at $99."

happy now?

how can anyone compare a mini disk player to an mp3 player?

mini disk = approx 1 album

ipod or similar = 1000 albums or more

All i can say is that I would definately NOT be happy paying
100 dollars for a NONrechargeable BATTERY, if I owned an I
pod. It's better than 255 but still inexcuseable.

I dont think its a bad price, and besides my friend has had
an ipod for over 2 years now and hasn't had a problem with
the battery.

You don't expect them to give them away free do you after
the warrenty expires

I kinda agree here. The question is, are there similar
issues of the same magnitude with other major mp3 players?

I feel the md is a better buy simply becasue the quality is
higher than mp3 and I can record shit which is not possible
with the ipod.

yeah...it doesnt hold 948490 hours of music but, I guess I
like to record more then listen.

Did I say that I expected them to be free? All I'm saying is
that Apple is a slut for making a proprietary battery in the
first place. If they are going to do that, why not make it
similar to a cellphone and include a charger? Oh, I know,
because then they would be missing out on all those hundreds
of dollars on battery replacement

there is virtually no difference between mini-disk sound
quality and AAC format, which is only on the i-pod I think

about 11 months after having it a little piece of the
heaedphone jack broke so I wasn't getting any audio. I sent
it back to them and they sent me a brand new ipod, so I
guess my battery will last 27 months, making my ipod the
best $500 I ever spent.

This is a user review for the Creative Zen from a PC user,
it might help you decide if your deciding between that and
the i-pod:

"When I decided to upgrade from my old Rio to a 20GB mp3
player, this is the first one I purchased. Not because the
reviews were so great, but because I'm a hardcore PC guy who
has an aversion to anything Apple. I had this thing for
about two weeks before returning it to the store. First the
necessary cables weren't in the box, then the Zen didn't
know how to talk to my Dell, I had to download some drivers
and call customer support, finally it would only import 80%
of my songs because the other ones had what the software
called "fatal bit errors" even though they played fine on my
computer. And trust me, I work in IT and tech problems are
my specialty. I finally got the thing working, barely, but
then I happened to mess around with my girlfriend's iPod
(she has a Mac, of course).

It took me about five minutes to realize the mistake I had
made. The iPod is better designed, with easier menus and
what sounded (to my untrained ears) like better sound
quality. I asked Sara how long it took to get the thing
working, and she looked at me with a blank face. She said
all she did was plug it in and boom -- thirty minutes later
she was good to go. I returned my Zen THAT DAY, picked up
the 20GB iPod, and had my CD collection imported within the
hour. No bit errors. No driver problems. I kept thinking
something must be wrong because I didn't need to do any
troubleshooting. The thing works perfect. I don't care what
your loyalties are, the iPod is the premier unit out there.
It costs a little more, but save yourself the headache and
just get one."
