does everybody else's copy of Amber have about a 2-second
silence gap at the end of the last track 'Teartear'???

I dunno ill go check tonight when i get home from the bar.
Hmmm..... Amber is my favourite release by Autechre. They
create some amazing soundscapes in this album of theirs,
also a top CD for people just getting into AE.

mine has that gap.

i swore it didn't when i first listened to it, so i thought
it was scratched once i noticed it. now that you've
mentioned it, i suppose it's there.

i've noticed another gap in aphex's "at the heart of it all"
track. i think it's a sequencer fuck up in both tracks.

it's a weird little thing.

i noticed it the first time i listened to it, but sometimes
i don't notice it - it seems to occur in a part of the song
when its really repetitive and anti-climactic...just creeps
up on ya.

i love this release, it's full of wonderful tracks.

maybe my fav Ae release? it's possible...

I find moments of Amber very relaxing or enjoyable, but
sometimes it's simply too repetitive or annoying for me. I'd
love them to go back to that style though and develope it,
as I think Amber could have been amazing.

I prefer Incunabula, while we're on the subject of
autechre....how the fuck do you pronounce their name? is it
aw-tek-er?

I've heard that the name stands for AUdio TECHnological
REsearch, and was told to pronounce it aw-tek-er. Makes
the most sense to me actually.

back on topic:

amber is the best for me when I need smooth ambient and warm
feelings

Amber is my single favourite Autechre release. Nice and
ambient, but also cool and IDMish, Piezo is one of my
favourite pieces of music, and... it's great. Yeah.

Yeah, mine does. The CD has a blank spot on it so I figure
it is a manufacturing defect. Oh well. Ae fucking rule
though.

This defect appears in the US pressings of Amber (and
possibly UK repressings, though I don't know for sure). The
original UK pressing (which I have) doesn't have this
defect.

Hmm, I've only jumped on the ae train recently, and never
seemed to pick up on this release.

I've got everything (atm) from Incunabula to Confield except
Amber and LP5 (soon to get).

Is Amber worth picking up? What's it comparable to? SAWII?
MHTRTC? FSOL?

offline Labium Sweat from United States on 2004-01-29 21:07 [#01054177]

Saw isn't comparable to any of those, it stands on its own.
Oh, and yes its definitly worth buying. Second only to
Incunabula.

This is my least favourite Autechre album... a bit too
sterile at times, but still generally awesome. Glitch, Nine
and Nil are just greatness.

purchased yesterday. ive always loved slip, piezo and
yulquen. but Glitch and Further are simply amazing. Glitch
especially I find remarkable, its beautiful and to say it
must have been produced just over 10 years ago. Wow.
Breathtaking. Awesome album. BTW i got this for 7 quid in
HMV cos it was buy one get one free (also picked up go
plastic). So get down to HMV for some great 'IDM' dealz!!!!

I find this to be the warmest of the autechre albums (maybe
Incunabula too). It was the album that made me LOVE
autechre. Track 1 (Foil I think it's called), is fucking
ominous! It makes me feel like a little tiny ant.
