Its spreading. The virus of worker's militancy has reached
Bristol. Its only a matter of time before the evil forces of
communism reach the principality.

of tea and chocolate Digestives and they will see the error
of their ways.

More postal workers join wildcat strikes

More postal workers have joined an unofficial strike as the
Royal Mail started sealing post-boxes because of a mounting
backlog of letters.

Workers in Swindon, Slough and Gravesend have taken wildcat
action, taking the number of postmen and women on strike to
more than 20,000 across the country.

The Government is being urged to intervene in the dispute,
which is costing the Royal Mail millions of pounds and
causing huge problems for businesses.

Malcolm Bruce, the Liberal Democrat trade and industry
spokesman, said "urgent arbitration" was needed to resolve
the escalating row.

He wrote to Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt
calling on her to act to end the "deeply damaging" dispute.

Talks between the Royal Mail and Communication Workers Union
officials will resume later after being adjourned last night
with little sign of a breakthrough.

The Royal Mail started sealing some of London's 20,000
post-boxes today for the first time in several years.

Most post-boxes in the capital are expected to be affected
by early next week if the dispute continues.

Mail will be emptied from the boxes before they are taped up
and taken to sorting offices to join bags of other
undelivered post.

The industrial action began in west London two weeks ago but
has been spreading every day, leading to a mounting backlog
of post. Workers are also taking unofficial strike action in
Maidstone, Essex, Milton Keynes, Coventry, Oxford,
Portsmouth, Warrington, Rugby and Stansted airport.

Story filed: 10:49 Friday 31st October 2003

great...

Yeah I ordered too and forget about this. What I have been
reading is that is only affecting England though, which
makes sense. Now, what I'm trying to figure out is if some
other group is actually coming and taking the mail out of
the country. I doubt it, but who knows.

juno is in london btw, so either im extremely lucky or its
not as bad depending on where you live.

i was going to make another order with warpmart (my ankle is
fucked so i can't walk or drive anywhere, thats the only
reason) but there seems little point as its only going to
get worse (the strike, not my ankle)

I ordered stuff around the time the strikes started. So it
wasn't even like I didn't notice.
I'm waiting on seven packages in the mail. One of them I
ordered two fucking weeks ago.
With a predicted backlog of 16 million items a day in London
alone, it's going to take them a couple of weeks to clear
that too. So some of these orders could take a month to
arrive.
Small businesses who rely on post are losing money.
The London strikes are about pay - The Royal Mail is a
company which is slowly losing money as it is, and now
losing a lot more due to the strikes, where the hell do they
think they're going to get extra pay from? "I know, let's
lose them a load of money - that'll make them pay us more!".
If they keep it up for much longer, people are going to
start sending their parcels by Parcelforce or another
company, and if they keep doing that, it'll end up putting
half of these workers out of a job completely. That'll give
the fuckers something to complain about.
I'm in half a mind to hope that someone suffers drastically
from lack of post and starts suing the Royal Mail, at which
point they'll sue the workers Union, and they'll realise
that pissing off an entire country is not the way to go
about getting some extra money.
